- Hi everyone, and happy February! Today I have an interesting experience - flying domestically within Australia. I was curious how it would compare to flying domestically in America, and it's safe to say that a couple of aspects of the experience caught me off guard!
This trip is in the back half now. I should have four more flight reviews coming up from this trip, and then I'll figure out what to do from there! I will be flying this week, so maybe I can get some footage from those flights, although they won't be very exciting... That's for me to figure out later though.
Anyways, thank you so much for watching, and be sure to like, comment, and subscribe if you enjoyed the video. I'll see you all next week, and until then, have a good one!
Yeah, Virgin is actually considered a budget or low-cost airline here, which is why its fares are a bit cheaper than Qantas; it sits in between Jetstar and Qantas in terms of service & inclusions and its fares are priced accordingly. You will get a free meal and free alcoholic beverages on Qantas as well as a greater checked luggage allowance, however you will pay for it with higher fares. In my opinion flying Virgin business class is excellent value, as it is almost indistinguishable from the Qantas Business product however is generally less than half the regular undiscounted Qantas price on the same route; on many routes it costs only slightly more than the regular Qantas Economy fare.
That’s good to know, I appreciate it! I have flown QF long haul before, but not for a domestic flight. I’ll have to find some way to get on one the next time I’m in Australia.
It seems to me like Virgin occupies a space similar to JetBlue here in the US. JetBlue is somewhere in between a low cost carrier like Spirit, and a full service airline like Delta, but definitely closer to full service than ultra low cost.
Overall, I really enjoyed flying Virgin. It was such an easy experience, and fares seemed very reasonable. Thanks for your comment!
Qantas is the only true full service Aussie airline. You regularly get a free hot meal on QF domestic flights. Your VA fare must have not been their most basic because their Lite fares don’t include bags. Food and drinks are always extra with VA except in business. I find the domestic flying experience easier in general compared to America but delays are more common and airlines offer very little compensation for the delays due to a lack of competition.
I appreciate the information, it's super helpful to know! I did prefer the overall experience compared to flying domestically in the US. I'm really looking forward to whenever I'll be able to be in Australia next, it's truly my favorite country in the world.
Unfortunately security is necessary most places. The airport didn't seem that busy, to bad about the club, it would have been nice to see. Are the domestic flights as full like the US ? Glad Ab&b worked out... looking forward to new week!!!
