I played this for so many hours of my teenage years. This was my first MMO and it was such an insane experience. I remember so many of the people I played with. The personalities, the cliques, the drama. The game wasn't just the game it was the first time I've experienced an online community before and it entirely changed me forever. Sometimes I wonder if for the good or for the worse. I randomly searched this on youtube out of curiosity after not thinking about this game for such a long time and was surprised to see even ONE video about it. Amazing.
Loved this game, was in the Beta all you could do was fight each other and trolls. I was in M.o.B Masters of Blood our rival was L.o.R Lords of the Realm. Every time the game crashed there was a race to who could dial in first and steal the others main chat channel haha. Great times, even met up with a bunch of peeps from the guild and saw a concert together. The 1st official MMO! Amazing its still going. Thanks for sharing Kentageon!
I remember getting the demo from Betrayal at Antara's box, and was highly addicted to this for a couple of years. Belong to the Realm Paladins and we'd all have so much fun. I also remember a lot of folks basically dated and cybered in the game. Lots of debauchery going around. Mostly guys pretending to be girls to get free gear. I played it on a 28.8bps modem and would frequently get disconnected.
OMG as an original player, when he picked up the heavy sword and lamented not being able to carry the ring, I was pulling my hair out over here. You can drop stuff from your inventory, my dude! Aughh
I'm surprised that you bothered to show your empty house without even mentioning how impressive that is. A player's house isn't just a respawn point, it's a personal holding. You can drop something on the floor in your house, and it'll be there when you come back later (given that you close the door to your house when you leave so someone else can't steal it all). That said, since you apparently didn't know you could drop things at the time of this video, it makes sense that you might not have noticed this feature. This game had persistent and decoratable player housing pretty much at launch-in 1996. I always roll my eyes when modern studios say they don't want to include player housing in their game because it's "too hard" or whatever. 🙄
I was a wizard and ran 2 accounts at the same time. One was an ASGW and the other was an AIEW. I brought them both up together, figured out how to power level, and took on caves kinda solo... just me and my alt. I needed help once the new helmets came out.. there were a bunch.. berserker helmet and quite a few others. I can’t remember their names now... but I have fond memories of this game. It was the first online game I ever played.
Nice pacing when showing the gameplay and how the game works. I watch led 8min and feel like I get it. P.S. try to say positive stuff about yourself more :). We all have pros and cons. Focus on your pros. You're a great RUclipsr.
It was relatively early but nowhere near the first MMORPG. NWN came out five years earlier and there were others in between. This video does bring back some good memories though and thanks for that.
Thanks for posting this. Good stuff. I shared it with friends in hopes that they might want to play again. By the way I did the fix for being able to click bottom item in inventory today and it was easy, took about 2 minutes, well worth the time!
I actually ended up implementing a different fix. The virtual machine solution is pretty darn great, as you can resize and scale the game to your liking. You lose the mouse acceleration issues, and some of the bugs associated with a newer OS are squashed. Thanks for the comment .I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Wow. This really takes me back. Building up your reputation for trading and then posting, "so and so handed 2nd, very honest". All the shorthand. NmH, Uppys, HoB. GwCs, BoNs, orbs. This game got me thru college lol in the 90s. I was a wizard 180SDM I think it was called...enchanter. Us enchanters would would put our prices on our bio and set up in a NPC shop lol. I was WanderingWiz I became friends with a few other people and they created new characters using wandering. I remember WanderingPhoenix. Forgot the other :) We use to do Fufu runs. We saw the MECH guild with Mech in there names. I remember one tried to pickpocket me but my backpack was enchanted and she got burned. She was pissed at me. I couldn't stop laughing.
There are still some of those MECH people playing now! It's great to see the game back and somewhat popular again. I never got very far when I played as a youngin, but it's still very nostalgic for me.
There was a developer named Conan. I remember being like 13 years old convincing him that I accidentally deleted my level 100 warrior and he automatically leveled me up to 100 from that day I was addicted to lying to him over and over He would always level me up. True story 😭😭
That looks like a really fun game. It reminds me of those point-and-click Adventure games. I've never thought that those could be used in online games with actual combat!
Remember this game!!! Wonder if any people I knew still around. Zinje , Grimmreaper, MechFemme, David Bowie, I was Ignitor, Jump , I forgot my elf but got to 1k on all was fun. Love to reconnect with old friends.👍 Still looks fun.
This was the game before Everquest (Evercrack) :) Ultima Online was a giant PKer nest. Jumpgate I believe was coming out soon as well. Earth Above and Beyond.
@@jazztickets yeah, I remember some people doing an evict scam once the command became a thing. You'd claim to be selling an item and have the buyer come over. You'd both drop at the same time, and then the house owner would /evict and take it all.

Just reading about this game in Ken Williams new book. Completely missed this at the time.
What a blast from the past! I remember when 100 was the max level 🥳🥳
I remember this back during the alpha days in July '96.
I still miss this game.. I wish I had my old account info...
