I was just chatting with a dear friend, long time companion at one time and we were speaking about people's influences forming our path. I envy art-centric families.
Excellent chanson et excellent trio. Mais, oh mon dieu, que Rufus n'a pas l'air bien. Crystal Meth? Probablement. I'm so glad he's through this. It's a pleasure to see him now on stage so cheerful and in control. I love him more everyday!
There is another performance, on the summer stage and it is good performance, it is I think more full of energy and so on, and the video is better but I prefer this music (I mean when I only listen to it). Simply beautiful!
The thing is, the line up of three people kind of means something. Loudon Wainwright, their father, was the one man guy. Just watch the documentary. And Teddy Thompson is the son of another folk music couple, just like Rufus and Martha. I quite like this.
I guess you answered the comment long ago where I asked who is teddy. Then I got know a little bit who he is but thanx for your comment, I will check the song out. Have a nice day :)
Thank you SO MUCH for posting videos from this Canadian performance, which I haven't seen in 10+ yrs, shortly after I first discovered Rufus. (By any chance do you have the sit down interview from this same show?) Rufus' voice does indeed give one chills in this ... which is why I'm always so disappointed that he shares the vocals in this song. Teddy and Martha are lovely singers, but they truly can't hold a candle to the man's pipes. Not even close.
"Imaginary Love" Every kind of love Or at least my kind of love Must be an imaginary love to start with Guess that can explain the rain waiting walking game Schubert bust my brain to start with Cause every kind of love Or at least my kind of love Must be an imaginary love to start with Guess that can explain the rain waiting walking game Schubert bust my brain to start with Oh, to look at you In a cab Back of your head across my lap Oh, what grace Green back seat against the red of your face Oh, to look at you Any old grand hotel Drunken demands give way to reservations Oh, what a room Champagne brings such happy faces Happy faces Cause every kind of love Or at least my kind of love Must be an imaginary love to start with Guess that can explain the rain waiting walking game Schubert bust my brain to start with Cause every kind of love Or at least my kind of love Must be an imaginary love to start with, baby Guess that can explain the rain waiting walking game Schubert bust my brain to start with Oh, oh...
Martha wasn't pregnant when they made this in 2001! She had her first child in 2010 I think. I saw her at the Royal Albert Hall (Kate's last concert). Martha had just given birth to Arcangelo prematurely in London.
She gets the contorting straight from her dad and the harmonic style from him and the McGarrigles - its an aquired taste I suppose - I love it personally - it has a nice acidic quality.

Martha is just so...out there. Distractingly so. She's moving around and contorting her face, and she's going on these harmonies and melodical tangents that just..don't..work.
This is so good - its sucha shame what most people put up with in the commercial stream - dumbed down crap. It's sad that garbage like "My Chemical Romance" goes to number 1 in the main street whilst the precious diamonds are hidden in the alleyways
It's strange, maybe it's just my opinion but I think Martha looks here (2001) older than in the video one man guy in central park (2004). Sorry Martha I just prefer you with longer hair. ;)
yeah, but it's better that rufus isn't that mainstream, then you can tell who actually listens to good music, rather than listening to whatever the media crams down their throats.
Thank you Rufus, These songs could not be heard when I was a young man. Now it is bitter sweet and that touches my soul. Thank you.
This video gives me chills, every time. Martha's voice just slays me, and their harmonies are perfection. Gorgeous.
This is from the Bravo! Special called "Live at the Rehearsal Hall." I was there, front row. :)
lucky lucky you!
Beautiful song. Their voices are each unique on their own and blend together beautifully. I love rufus' hair long.
I've read the book 'One Man Guy' of Michael Barakiva, and I love this song now
Kalamazoo Kalamazoo me too I love the book and now discover rufus
Kalamazoo Kalamazoo me tooooooooooo#ImFromBrazil
I like this version the most! I love all of you together!
Big Wainwright fan from the old days. Loved to see this. And Teddy Thompson too ... Richard is an old hero of mine too. Well done, guys. Cheers.
This was the year I first saw Rufus live and he blew me away. Since then I have tried to see him in concert - he is wonderful live - love him
I read “One Man Guy” by Michael Barakiva so I just had to find the song and it’s so beautiful
fab! 3 of my favourite musicians!
I tuned in to hear U!
NONE ELSE
Beautiful.
So young and sweet Rufus!
I am so greatful for this post...I have seen this live...Yes the 3 of them doing this song live...Its amazing...THANK YOU!
Always be favorite 💯
so emotional. these songs mean so much more to them than we could ever know.
Amazing. Jeez, It's pretty hard to type with goosebumps up your arms and a shiver up your spine...
Those 3 part harmonies are just great :)

GREAT SONG! Now I'm hooked on it. . .
This song I know of Them Father... this one is ( can't describe) ,,, well - it's Martha's silvery voice that ... (tears)
I just love the lyrics and the way its played like it should be. Really an awesome song
Thanks
She is just one of a kind and i love her for it... and I like Beyonce.
I agree, all three are fantastic musicians in their own rights. Love Teddy Thompson's latest album.
Fantastic! It's back !

This is a great song. Check all 3 of them out on the Leonard Cohen tribute DVD "I'm you're man"...all 3 of them blew me away. Such stunning voices !!!
magical
Oh God, I LOVE Rufus all thin and long haired!! SIGH!!
And how about that sassy hand on his hip!?! Hot stuff!
@rlawrence331 This song was written by Loudon Wainwright III, Rufus & Martha's father.
You can. His name is Loudon Wainwright III. (He wrote it, of course.) There are a few versions of him performing it on RUclips.
Teddy's page on Facebook has some great links too. Loudon and RIchard are touring together this year. Amazing the talent in those families.
People in the comments saying they saw this show live and im like... I was 2. Yall so lucky
So many great shows I never been to. I feel you.
The thing is, the line up of three people kind of means something. Loudon Wainwright, their father, was the one man guy. Just watch the documentary. And Teddy Thompson is the son of another folk music couple, just like Rufus and Martha. I quite like this.
great song
Rufus looks like a young god. anyway, he is a god!!
I guess you answered the comment long ago where I asked who is teddy. Then I got know a little bit who he is but thanx for your comment, I will check the song out. Have a nice day :)
Yey its back! :D

I adore Rufus. But i always love Martha backing up his vocals. She sounds gorgeous (as always) on this.
Martha - awesome - lots of love hate for Dad here I feel
YEEEEESHHH on 3:16.
What is the line "These three cubic feet of blood and bone are all I love and know" referencing?
His body. Himself. '3 cubic feet of bone and blood and meat'
The song written by Rufus' dad is an ode to selfishness.
this is just wonderful... I am t\ken aback...
"Imaginary Love"
Every kind of love
Or at least my kind of love
Must be an imaginary love to start with
Guess that can explain the rain waiting walking game
Schubert bust my brain to start with
Cause every kind of love
Or at least my kind of love
Must be an imaginary love to start with

Schubert bust my brain to start with
Oh, to look at you
In a cab
Back of your head across my lap
Oh, what grace
Green back seat against the red of your face
Oh, to look at you
Any old grand hotel
Drunken demands give way to reservations
Oh, what a room
Champagne brings such happy faces
Happy faces
Cause every kind of love
Or at least my kind of love
Must be an imaginary love to start with
Guess that can explain the rain waiting walking game
Schubert bust my brain to start with
Cause every kind of love
Or at least my kind of love
Must be an imaginary love to start with, baby
Guess that can explain the rain waiting walking game
Schubert bust my brain to start with

I agree entirely. The vocals are quite a bit tighter on this version (makes a big difference for me).
Hey I can't watch it anymore, I can't play it. Can you? :'( I really love the video but maybe it's something wrong with the it...
Till Martha, that is
Almost looks like someone did a face swap with Martha and Mitch Hedberg when she was singing her verse!?
Yes it is true she looks older there, but she is 3 years younger.
She gets the contorting straight from her dad and the harmonic style from him and the McGarrigles - its an aquired taste I suppose - I love it personally - it has a nice acidic quality.
oh so its not something wrong with my computer its the vid? i got a litte confused there. aaaw :/
Teddy Thompson sounds good

It's great, but his dad's version live at the BBC is tops.
what potato did you film this with?
@0451455 Randomly switching from French to English? What is this?! XD

sorry...who is teddy? I know only rufus with martha, but great song anyway
How would you like for your father to write a song like this? It's no secret that Martha especially loathes him.
It's strange, maybe it's just my opinion but I think Martha looks here (2001) older than in the video one man guy in central park (2004). Sorry Martha I just prefer you with longer hair. ;)
I love Rufus but all I can hear in the chords is Martha :/
I'm sorry
yeah, but it's better that rufus isn't that mainstream, then you can tell who actually listens to good music, rather than listening to whatever the media crams down their throats.
Martha is on key and all, but where is her vibrato? Rufus has such a rich ethereal vibrato. It’s strange.
@rlawrence331 lololol its a good song nevertheless.
@rlawrence331 This may be one of the dumbest comments I've ever read. Thank you.
It doesn't make sense to sing a song called one man guy with fucking 3 people
- Ronnie B
This is exactly what children want to hear their father say, isn't it?
Yikes.
wow, not that talent is hereditary
