I'm 81 yrs. old. One of the greatest pleasures of retiring in 2018 is having time to really enjoy music. Listening to you, many pieces over and over, is magic. You live to make each other shine!
Same here. My father loved cello and had me play it growing up. I'm going to try to play this again, even though l haven't for many years--in his memory....
I’ve looked for years for a rendition of the Swan that is technically clear, where I can actually see the hand and finger movements, hear the nuances of the music and picture the music as it’s played... No one before now has done this - they’re either too fast, too active, or you can’t see their hands clearly. Thank you so much. This is beautifully played AND enormously helpful to cellists who need to see where they might be making a mistake - or who just want to learn the piece and find it useful to see it played :) Wonderful performance.
So melancholy and so beautiful. Reminds me of when I watched a ballerina playing a swan, dance to it in the 1960’s on TV. With my family who are all passed now.😢
I'm a french cellist... Of course I played that one thousand times. Often everybody is overexpressing it, playing also it too fast, even the most well knowned players who are trying to let a mark on this so simple score... And the results are too often quite ugly... Here it's just what it should be, good tempo, nothing special, no demonstration, just a swan on a lake! bravo.
Yes, this is a humble, and perfect, version, and most true to the composer's intentions. Ego from performers trying to add their unique spin has often ruined the cadence.
Wow! Magnificent, bravo! "The Swan" is one of my all time favorites, especially as a piano & cello duo. It is amazing that a husband and wife duo of musicians can rise to this level of talent and perfection to play this piece so majestically! Ever since Ukrainian ice skater Oksana Serhiyivna Baiul-Farina won the Olympics to this piece in 1994 I have been smitten by the memory of her performance and choreography on the ice accompanied by this exact rendition of "The Swan" on that memorable day! The way Oksana perfectly mimicked a real Swan in her skating routine will never be forgotten by me. And now Brooklyn Duo's performance just adds to the pleasure of that memory. Thank you both for a fantastic experience. May God bless you both!
I'm learning this piece for the first time as an intermediate cellist, because my teacher wants to challenge (torture) me. I really appreciate the way you film your videos, with a nice straight-on view of Patrick's cello and his hands. His technique is inspiring, and it's interesting to observe his choices in bowing and fingering. So much to learn from. It's also a really beautiful rendition of the piece, just like always.
This was absolutely beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes and I could feel my heart beat slightly faster. That was one of the most heart felt pieces of music I have ever listened to.
I showed my mom this song and she was quiet for a long time, and I asked what she thought of it, and she said " its the saddest thing I've heard, and one of the most beautiful."
Just did this one on the flute with a harp and violinist accompanying me! I love this song so much. The cello has always been one of my favorite instruments and this song just reiterated that statment. The emotion erupted. Absolutely perfect. ❤❤
Over the years, I heard many versions of this amazing piece. Most (if not all) of them, have missed the point. I have never been slightly as excited as I should have been, but that was before I discovered you two. I can feel your soul in this piece, and it's like falling in love with music all over again. Great job, thanks for this. keep up the good music!
How incredibly moving. I can't imagine the feeling you two must have had performing this haunting piece together. To play something so moving...being in such harmony with one another must take you to another level of intimacy. To wind your feelings and emotions around one another as you sculpt these beautiful sounds, seemingly out of nothing. What a lovely thing to be able to experience. You are so very fortunate. Sadly It is something that the majority of people will never know. But it is better to have observed such, than never to have been able to experience it at all. Thank you.
A heavily bearded, mustachioed Frenchman composed this, in 1886, when men were at their most masculine. Yet, the tenderness is certainly more sublime than anything else spiritually in this century.
Awesome! This is one of the most beautiful renditions of this sublime, moving and soul stirring piece of music by Camille Saint-Saëns! Brooklyn Duo, you are amazing!
Saint-Saëns deserved such a mafnificent preformance. This song will be in my dreams. Thank you, Brooklyn Duo and Saint-Sëns. La chef-d'oeuvre de Saint-Saëns , ell méritait cette interprétation magnanime. Cette pièce merveilleuse sera toujours dans mes rêves. Merci, Brooklyn Dui et Saint-Saëns.
Hi, I’m 18 years and I love knowing that I share this musical taste with people of almost all ages, I have even found the comment of an 81-year-old man. Nice to know, enjoy this melodic beauty!~✨
Oh my God, that is so beautiful. I have only discovered you two on RUclips in the last hour or so, and have been completely enthralled and in tears listening to your beautiful music.
I love this piece..., and your performance is absolutely amazing. You are perfect and fantastic. Thank you for sharing your great and beautiful talent.

I know right, sometimes you just need to chill out, relax and listen to music.
Thank you very much, my friend. God bless you.
I'm your age and semi-retired. You express perfectly what I feel. Salutations de Montréal.
One of my father's musics. He used to listen with closed eyes. Now, with tears, I miss him.
Same here. My father loved cello and had me play it growing up. I'm going to try to play this again, even though l haven't for many years--in his memory....
The only way to listen to this song is with closed eyes :)
He’s still here with you, looking after you but you don’t see him.
@@naomipreston886 I’m so sorry for your loss.
Absolutamente... se abre inmenso el mundo
My mom used to play this on the piano for me absolutely beautiful RIP momma
My God....... just beautiful.... thank you
i know. i feel you and i love it so much. nothing in my exitance of 25 years has made me feel as much as the swan.
I really wish I had a cellist friend to play this with
I play cello for one year and a half.
Now I started to play piano.
Am 14 year old. Thank for music

One of my absolute favorites of all time.
My mom used to play this to calm me down. RIP momma I love and miss you every day.
The beauty of this piece is overwhelming!
So melancholy and so beautiful.
Reminds me of when I watched a ballerina playing a swan, dance to it in the 1960’s on TV.
With my family who are all passed now.😢
Beautiful! Saint-Saens is an amazing composer and is severely underrated

"Just a swan on a lake". Wonderful observation Altu. A swan does not do flourishes, just does...well. Swan stuff.
My thoughts exactly. Hard to find a cover that hasn’t been over-embellished. I really only like one other version on RUclips but now this is another 😌
Yes, this is a humble, and perfect, version, and most true to the composer's intentions.

Keyboardist flapping for a liftoff is a particular peeve of mine!
My pet peeve is keyboardist that attempt a lift_ off rather than concentrating on the music, And orchestra members mugging for the cameras!!!
I don’t know why, but my heart bruises every time I listen to this music. God bless Saint-Säens and this wonderful couple of interpreters!

I remember hearing this the day after my grandmother passed away. Its now forever going to be her memorial in my mind.
I showed my mom this song and she was quiet for a long time, and I asked what she thought of it, and she said " its the saddest thing I've heard, and one of the most beautiful."

Jane Fulton Same! I'm gonna do mine at christmas:)
+fantasticharriet Any tips for a pre-grade one cellist? X3
Sanderson Girl Try to get private lessons and make sure whenever you play, you hold the cello and bow correctly or they'll mark you down in exams:)
Thank you! This advise will be a great help x3
