Well... it would be nice video about what changed etc. But for now it will be in my head. "Eh, I feel like doing Total War videos again." Best kind of reason.
Well, I imagine a Carthage guide is already in the works… after all, how could you possibly resist talking about me! Theodekles! The greatest warrior of all!
Carthage should get archers, Numidia has them, so I took the liberty to add them to the game as well. Makes their roster slightly stronger, though let's be fair: in open confrontation Rome will smash Carthage just like they finally did in real life. To win, a player has to somewhat think outside the box, like Hannibal did. Infantry can hold the line against hastati for some time, but you have to make a play with elephants, the real work -horse- elephants of your army. Cavalry is there for better mobility and it's ok. Carthage in general just has plenty of modding potential, most of their army would be various mercenaries and real "Carthaginian" units would be deployed more sparingly.
You're back?! A couple days ago I checked and was saddened that you left two years ago... And then the great news came. Welcome back, lad! Good to see you around again.
The youngest retiree in history has returned. Our Prayers have been answered. 1st Jesus, 2nd Emperor Palpatine, 3rd God Melkor the magnificent returns. God Bless you and this great community that you have built attack and conquer.
Great to have you back making videos (though take breaks as you need to). When I first learned how to play the normally unplayable factions, Macedon were my first pick. How/when you get involved in the Rome vs Greece war is pivotal. And there’s always the danger that they just attack you or that you get backstabbed by Thrace or Dacia. Really interesting starting position with a brilliant army
Macedon has a pretty balanced army roster, too. It's not as extensive as say, the Seleucids who have a dizzying number of units. What you do have works well together for Hammer and Anvil tactics. You are correct in emphasizing the low tier cavalry. Most people when they see the Hellenic factions think it's all about the Pikes. While you CAN win by Pikes alone, but being too one dimensional leaves issues open about getting your pike line flanked or taking unnecessarily heavy losses from ranged attacks. The Greek Cavalry are good in screening against all but the heaviest of cavalry. The Tier 1 Light Lancer Cavalry have high charge value: Equivalent to Cataphracts, which means it's quite potent. But you can't charge and leave them in melee like you can Cataphracts. Catas have high armor, good attack, and even armour-piercing maces. Light Lancers have very poor defense, so you charge in, do the casualties, and get back out. Reform, do it again. The Light Lancers are very cheap in upkeep since they're Tier 1 units. I liked to have 3 of them in an army. I'd group them together to focus down and charge a single unit. It inflicts a lot of casualties on the charge. You also have to be aggressive with Macedon. I also agree with the southern push. You NEED to beat the Greek Cities ASAP to remove them as a threat, destabilizing your lines. You don't need Sparta pumping out more Spartan Hoplites. I also made an emphasis of taking Byzantium ASAP, too. It's initially Rebel held but the Thracians do try to take it. I want to take Byzantium to enrich myself as well as deny Thrace a great city. I don't care if I fight Thrace over it, they're going to war with me soon anyways, so I may as well cripple them by taking Byzantium. If you deny them that settlement, they get a lot easier to destroy. They won't have Byzantium spamming units against you. On Remastered, I secured Greece early and took Byzanitum. Except for Brutii held Appolonia, I had all of Greece under Macedonian control. It didn't take much longer to push northeast and beat Thrace. At this point, Greece is almost destroyed, Thrace is done. Get some ships together and send them off to take Rebel held Kydonia and Greek Cities held Rhodes. By this point, Greek Cities' holdings in Asia Minor and Syracuse were already overrun. So by taking Rhodes, that finishes off Greek Cities. Beat the Remastered Short Campaign victory conditions for Macedon very quickly. So quickly that I didn't get a Huge City when victory was achieved. I never trained Royal Pikemen nor Companion Cavalry when it was done. When I won I barely started getting the Tier 3 Pikemen units. Beat Short Campaign with Levy Pikemen and early tier Light Cavalry units.
Wow, this was an unexpected surprise to see in my feed when I got home from work. Really happy to see you putting out new TW (or any kind of) content. I actually originally found your channel during a difficult time in my life, and always found your voice nice to listen to back then no matter what the video was about. Here’s hoping you keep these guides (and more) coming! Crossing my fingers for more “Saving the A.I.” videos, though I know they’re pretty niche.
You can't just come back into my life and release a new video without saying a thing! Oh, this put such a smile on my face. Thank you for making my day, and welcome back, mate!
Watching this made my day! Am I the only one who found the audio very quiet? Regardless, I hope to see more from you, I have missed your content greatly
Serious props for discussing the starting generals and units first. A lot of other faction guides overlook this, but it's a big factor in how fast you can get your snowball going.
The TL;DR for Macedon's temples: Demeter: Growth, Farmland, Law, Experience (i.e. chevrons) Zeus: Law, Farmland, Experience, Missiles Artemis: Missiles, Law, Farmland Ares: Experience, Morale, Trade, Happiness These same effects also apply to the Alexander campaign although, due to the way that campaign plays out, it's less likely you'll get to make use of them in the long run. Oh, and welcome back, Melkor.
Might just have to boot up Rome again, this is a great guide so I definitely know what faction I'm playing next. You love to see the return after 3 years I love your videos so please keep making them!

I never unsubscribed princep
