Yep. Because then we run into lack of resources or uses of the language. I love the cool stories of uncommon languages. And this is the problems I always run into.
Hello! :) I also like to learn foreign languages very much and I teach russian to foreigners in english and in french! I add different videos on my channel about russian and also videos with my other hobbies: piano playing and skateboarding. Maybe if you find something helpful and interesting there I will be happy if you subscribe :)
So many languages to learn, so little time! Thank you for this video Lindie! I speak French and English fluently, and I started learning Korean 2 years ago but I keep having urges to learn other languages, especially Kazakh and Taiwanese Mandarin right now! The lack of ressources and native speakers are making me hesitate, but I’m really passionate about them!
My language picking journey: I’m a native English speaker and I’m intermediate in Japanese and learning French and Arabic. Sometimes interest leads to learning a language. I love Japanese for its culture and entertainment and the way it sounds and it was my first foreign language and fun. This channel helped a lot. I started learning French because I really wanted to be in contact with the other end of the world. I love geography and wanted to learn about many countries and many types of people, so my next language I wanted to be international. I picked French because if francophone and wanted to know Europe region better. However my interest eventually branched to Arabic because I made amazing friends from Morocco and ones that live in France that helped so much and we became really close. They started teaching me Arabic too and the more I listened the more I liked it. Eventually I added Arabic as a language I’m learning and Egypt and other Arab countries were so much nicer than I expected. I had some incredible conversations and the way they teach it is funny 😆 I have learned so much about arab countries and Arab people have helped me grow as a person and have so much talking and knowledge that Arabic maybe my favorite language now. And the Arabic courses on memrise were great and people taught me it very well. Now have a short period of time I know lots of basics and lots of progress. I found my actual motivation to learn languages is learning about people and talking and learning about the world and Arabic is one of the best. I now focus on Japanese in classes and Arabic in free time and sometimes study French. To anyone that read all this I told this story to share that your experiences and how happy you are with the language will branch you to the languages you’ll like. :)
Languages I know: 🇧🇷, 🇬🇧 Languages I want to learn: 🇨🇳, 🇰🇷(?) I am seriously considering learning Mandarin, but I was not sure if I should, I’m kind of scared of the language because of the characters lol and I thought I could be like wasting time (a chronic fear that I have, to waste time) but this video helped me so much, especially the parts “what language makes you feel excited when you hear it” and “what language do you see yourself speaking” and the answer to that is Mandarin! I thought about learning Japanese because I like the language + Japanese culture but I now realize that I am not very passionate about this language and I don’t really see myself using it, except for understanding anime without subtitles, I wouldn’t do much/enjoy this language. With Korean I think I could still study ? Because I consume lots of Korean media, I think im familiarized with the language, but im a bit lazy to actually study 😂 so maybe my Korean learning process will be stuck for a while. Thank you for the great video! ❤️❤️
I felt it when you talked about resources for a language, I don't speak my mother tongue(weird when you think about it, but it's my native language) and the ones speaking it are only around 1000 people(if I had to guess) in the whole world, so the experience in learning it is so different than like, learning Spanish. We basically have to make resources by doing field trips ourselves, discovering grammar rules along the way of learning it. it's just...damn... p.s. My native language is called temarapuyuma, an Austronesian language, total population: around 14500
I know:🇧🇻🇬🇧 Learning:🇪🇦 Half assed trying to learning:🇰🇷🇰🇿 Learning random vocab from for some weird reason: 🇯🇵🇵🇹🇹🇭🇸🇴🇸🇾🇩🇪🇧🇩 Want to learn:🇨🇳🇨🇵🇬🇷 I'm 14 btw, haven't really started my language learning journy since I'm still in middle school and have to focus on school. But I really look forward to hopefully learn more about these languages and their cultures😊
2:44 - For me, it would be spanish and korean . I don't know why but those 2 languages are absolutely amazing to me ! If you speak one of them (or maybe both) , you're really lucky . 4:09 waww I'm impressed
I am 6 years into my journey with Finnish. The way it makes me feel is how you seem to feel with Hungarian. It's been frustrating but also really rewarding, and it really has changed my life. I also know some German, and I would really love to be fluent in it as well. My family also speaks Mennonite Low German, and I would love to be able to speak that as well, but it's hard to get any of my cousins to help me practice because they're so used to speaking to me in English, and there are hardly any resources for it.
I lived in China for 5 years and didn't learn much Mandarin. I regret that so much! Now, everytime I hear someone speak Mandarin, I get super excited and now I am learning it bit by bit
OMG I haven't seen anybody that interested in my mother tongue - Vietnamese before. I really grateful and proud that you enjoy our language. So glad to know and thank you so much for such an informative video ☺
learning a language that is widely spoken is not necessarily a huge advantage for job opportunities because there are so many other people speaking it, if you learn a more unique language you have a better chance of standing out
I clicked on this video thinking I already knew what languages I'd like to learn, but it was actually quite inspiring. It made me think "what exactly is my motivation to learning each language?" English is my second language and the one I use the most in life, despite still living in Brazil, since I consume a lot of content in it, have friends who speak it, and most importantly I'm an English teacher. I started studying Spanish because I could take a course for free at the school where I work. The course was only a year and a half long, and since my native language is very similar to it, and I really dedicated myself to studying it during that time, I was able to reach a high intermediate to advanced level, depending on who you ask (I've got a C1 certificate but I don't believe that's really my level). Once the course was over I completely abandoned the language because I don't actually particularly like it and don't consume much media in it. My motivation to practice it is just not forgetting what I've learned, and my motivation to start was simply that it was easy and free, and I love my Spanish teacher. Now I've realized that my goal with it is not to become as good at it as I am in English, it's just to keep on being conversational in it and to improve my listening skills in different accents. Now if I ask myself what languages I really have a strong motivation to learn, it's obvious: Japanese and Korean. Japanese because I just love the language, I love how it sounds and I think the writing looks really cute, and I like to try to speak it, and I already have some idea of how it works, because I've tried learning it a few times before. Also I still watch anime sometimes. And Korean because I love kpop and I consume music and variety shows in the language on the daily. So your video made me realize that my goal with these last two languages doesn't have to be proficiency. I'd like to be conversational in Japanese, and to be able to read manga and watch anime. That's basically it. And in Korean all I want is to understand lyrics and what idols are saying, I don't care much about communicating. Also I've always thought I wanted to learn French just because everyone seems to value the language so much, but the truth is I don't really care about it. I was just looking for another language that wasn't Asian to have as a goal so I could come across as some kind of "respectable polyglot" someday 😅
I am learning Spanish at school and I absolutely LOVE the language. I'd love to learn more, but my school is closed because of the pandemic and my teacher isn't interested in teaching us more Spanish, so I'm trying to improve my Spanish while watching RUclips videos. Can you recommend any good RUclips channels for Spanish learners? Thank you and sorry for my bad english. ☺️
Im currently studying Chinese and what keeps me going is the fact that I would study there one day specifically music and because I would also be trained to teach music in the future (its our family business) so I need to learn Mandarin. Before this was planned for me, I tried studying Chinese just because my mom knows how to since she works there but I usually give up and my studying isn't effective. After having this exciting news my motivation was then boosted! A new thing that I am learning at the same time is spanish because alot of vocabulary is similar to my native tongue so I thought it would be easier. My motivation is my pure interest and the enjoyment I feel because after starting to learn chinese, I felt like learning languages is a hobby for me now. I'd want to learn more in the future :))))
I'm a native Ukrainian and Russian speaker, English is my second language as I live in Canada. I'm learning Mandarin Chinese in uni, also considering learning Japanese cause I'm a huge anime fan
My wife is Spanish, so learned Castellano. I have Welsh family so I'm learning Cymraeg. I like Spanish. I live there now, so hey it is useful. I adore Cymraeg the culture and literature.
Thank you so much!!! I'm about intermediate with Spanish, and I'm gonna start learning Korean. I was thinking about doing Mandarin Chinease because of how widely spoken it is but something about Korean stuck out to me. This video helped me decide! Thank you so much for your videos! Keep up the awesome work!!!
Currently I'm learning French, and I really really want to speak it, read it like a native speaker. Whenever I look at the French texts I think "how the hell I don't know this language, it's just so so beautiful". So there is no way that I won't learn it. After French I want to learn Japanese, 'cause of Kanji. Kanji is so beautiful, that's the main reason to learn Japanese for me.
Woow, woow, I am amazed I found someone that is learning the languages I am personally interested in. I am currently learning both french and Japanese.
@@williamjames4031 Ooh, I'm currently learning French, but I'll resume my Japanese study when I'll be good in French; btw I know Hiragana, Katakana and some Kanji. Are you learning both at the same time ?
@@Aditya-te7oo no, I already have 10 months in the French language and I know hirginana and Katakana and a little bit of Kanji. But, now I am totally focus on learning to speak Japanese language.
I want to learn basic Japanese for when I (hopefully) go there next year, I'm fascinated by Japanese culture. My problem is I have a pretty bad memory so wonder if I might waste my time trying to learn the language.
I just love hearing Russian, it's one of my favourite things even though I don't understand practically anything. For a while, I've been thinking about trying it, but my progress is very slow and people are keen on reminding me languages as French or German are more useful for a professional, perhaps they're right, however, I don't feel like spending my time at something I'll probably give up on. Thanks for the video, you've just made my day!
I'm big fan of Chinese drama so I decided to learn this language and I'm excited too ..... Hey ! I'm Nepalese 😊 I'm 15 years old. Recently I know 3 language .... But it's normal in our country Almost all knew it.....
Learn a language which you really want to learn, start with something simple and spend time to practice it with native speaker if possible. You will master it one day.
I am about to graduate high school in a bit, and i learn arabic and english for 11 years now (i'm indonesian). But sadly i'm waay more fluent in English than Arabic, because i teach myself english and i learn arabic at school, I don't know why but i understands little to nothing when I leaned it in class. So after i graduate i decide to learn arabic again. And after i got at least conversational at it I'm gonna learn Chinese, then japanese with korean, then french, then thai, then spanish. Wish me luck!
Hi from Poland🇵🇱❤and i know this languages: I'm 12yo English🇬🇧 Polish🇵🇱 Ukrainian🇺🇦 And maybe Russian🇷🇺 I learning: German🇩🇪 French🇫🇷 Spanish🇪🇸 Netherlands🇳🇱 Portuguese🇵🇹 Italian🇮🇹❤ Yeah
Im from indonesia I decided to learn japanese rather than spanish. Main goal to learn japanese isn't really to watch anime but im interested about its culture and find it beautiful language. No offense, eventhough spanish is much easier and spoken much more, i'm not really interested in its culture or language. To sum it up, passion is more important than how much its used or if its easier
I'm a 16 year old language lover from Israel and I've always wanted to learn German. i just love it ! it sounds so beautiful to me! but unfortunately, there arent a lot of places where I could learn it
My first language is Hungaryan, but I speak English more confidently and I care about that. This is a reason why I wouldn't recommand Hungaryan to an introvert, because you can end up being really soft spoken, just like Lindie.
I'm Vietnamese, thank you for ur compliment on the beauty of my country's official language. I hope I can watch this video earlier. It encourages me so much! Thank you
I’ve studied 6+ languages academically and if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that the only way to maintain/enjoy a language fully is if you also have a genuine understanding and love of the culture/pop culture. You have to integrate it into your life (music/dramas/movies/personal relationships w a speaker of this language) or else it will fade into nothingness. Learning a language for linguistics alone is not enough. Get deep into that culture!
Wonderful presentation! I was in a bookstore looking at Chinese study materials (I've studied Mandarin) and casually picked up the only Cantonese book with no intention to engage. Suddenly, I just couldn't put that book back on the shelf! It wouldn't let me! I HAD to buy it! So, still quite puzzled, I went home, downloaded mp3 lessons and began learning Cantonese . . .
This is my confusing situation: -Native language: Spanish. -Learnt languages: English. -Learning: French (A2). -Languages I want to include in my current learning: German or Japanese (I don't know which to learn first). -Languages I want to learn after: Russian, Italian, Latin, Greek, Mandarin.
I am a native English speaker. I also speak Portuguese and Spanish. I love Portuguese!! Thinking of learning Korean to help my son get motivated to learn because he wants to do international business in college and loves anime.
My major requires three years of foreign language with an option for two of one and one of another. Of course chose that option, but now I have to chose that other one.
When you mentioned Vietnamese I got so excited hahaha (I'm Vietnamese). But I can relate to that point about the language that you love hearing and keeps you motivated - Mandarin and Korean for me. I've been debating over the two for years. I don't know if I can learn both at the same time as I am impatient to wait a few years until I know a language well and confidently enough to move on to the next. I already studied Mandarin for a year but forgot so much after I discontinued the course at uni a few years ago. I can read Korean (not fast LOL) but haven't received any formal or been as serious with it. I think I'm most worried about grammar for both and practicing handwriting (chinese) and pronunciation (chinese). What are your tips to be able to successfully study both these languages at the same time?
feature_person_speech_bubble If you're heading to Japan or thinking of studying Japanese, you’ll definitely want a firm grasp of the basic greetings and phrases. What’s "good morning" in Japanese? What's "good afternoon" in Japanese?
I totally agree!! There should be at least some sort of emotional connection to the language and/or culture of the target language you're studying. L'italiano mi accompagna tutti i giorni, e parlarlo mi rende semplicemente felice. Ma hope o ka 'ōlelo Ikalia, ua makemake au e a'o i ka 'ōlelo Hawai'i. No ke aha au i a'o ai i kēia 'ōlelo? No ka mea he mea nui no'u ka mo'olelo a me ka mo'omeheu Hawai'i. No Mekiko mai au a he kumu hula ko'u makuahine. Mai ko'u wā li'ili'i au i lohe ai i nā mele a me nā mo'olelo e pili ana i ka po'e Hawai'i. 'Ano hemahema na'e au, pono au e a'o i nā mea he nui ma mua o ka hiki 'ana ia'u ke 'ōlelo Hawai'i. All I can say is that, in some way or another the language you choose should light a spark inside you, it may be small at first but you should nurture it, let it grow, cause it will get you through the rough patches where learning feels hard and frustrating. Obviously taking a rest is also ok, not everything would feel like an endless chore.
Well I'm learning danish and pronunciation is really hard jaj but that's why keep motivated. I really like it, I don't even know why ? also would love to learn french and later japanese I just love those languages.
To even be proficient in chinese you would probably need to be at hsk level 6 which will take years and years, unless you live right in china you will probably lose most of what you have memorized. Even tho its the most widely spoken language in the whole world its still not as useful at the same time. Im learning dutch netherlands because its right beside me (i live in uk) i could travel there as often as possible, and its closest to english and it has a bike culture like no other country in the world. And im starting to pick up Japaneese even tho I'll travel to Japan probably once every couple years i do love its culture. Watching anime and with it being much easier than chinese because it has no tones to worry about. There are apps that let you converse in real time with the people in your targeted language.
If you want easy and fast try to learn spanish, then italian then portuguese and fench because they all similar But over all is chinese korean japanese russian german dutch because it is spoken all over the world Go head , try and see the result in 6 months
If you live in the southwestern UnitedStates, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas or Florida, New York, New Jersey etc. then Spanish is the language to learn. Also knowing Spanish will make it easier to learn Italian, Portuguese, French and Romanian.
Whereas Hungarian Estonian and Finnish all are belongs from the same uralic language family but once I heard a Hungarian song..I was realy loved in..and then I found that Hungarian is also spoken in northern part of Serbia where indians can get Visa easily..and I can practice more there and then this pendamic pops out and everything have stop
My old high school had Chinese which I wanted to take so bad but since I moved after 9th grade, I’m currently going into 10th this year and my new high school doesn’t have Chinese :(
I’m 13 now and i really like the English language because you’ve to use it literally everywhere... so for me english was pretty obvious choice since i was also good at it and i had to use it daily. But now that i experienced how beautiful to learn a new language i want to learn more😪 i learned it by myself the school didn’t help a shit because they’re stuck at “i have got, i haven’t got” and they don’t teach many things you need to know. (hungarian schools be like)
I rly want to learn korean bcs of kpop and k dramas and like to visit korea one day and i really have so much fun when i'm doing it but korean is not a international language and i'm not gonna use it in the future lot's of people tell me are you stupid why are you learning a language that you will never use ? And learning Persian is in my plan but should i learn korean ? I rly don't know what to do pls help ! 😭😭😭
You should do whatever you want to do. Other people have no idea about your life or what makes you happy. Follow your interests and you will always find your way in life.
I think learning languages should be valued as an end-goal and a process itself, not just as a means to achieve something else. Why would you listen to other people's opinions if they don't feel good to you?
@@neoizm may be you are right but some time's people say thing's that really hurt your feeling's 😢 and thanks that's really helpful 🌸 thank you so much btw i will keep learn korean ☺💜
i wanna learn korean so that i can understand kpop, kdramas, korean variety shows, kpop idols on vlive and that stuff and one day i also want to go to korea 🥰🇰🇷 ive actually started learning it a bit and i know a bit of the alphabet nowwwww
I know: 🇸🇰 - Native 🇨🇿🇬🇧 I am learning: 🇳🇴 I want to learn: 🇬🇷🇮🇹🇹🇷 🇳🇴 Norwegian, because I would like to visit Norway and maybe even move there because it's such a beautiful country. 🇬🇷 Greek, because I just like the letters :D 🇮🇹 Italian, because I like the sound of the language. 🇹🇷 Turkish, because it's funny :D I once listened to a Turkish song and I was just laughing through the whole song :D (No disrespect to Turkish people)

i only just started learning Korean, just because i really like how it sounds and it seems amazing to be able to speak it. I live in Belgium so there's no use for it though, but i think i'll continue learning :)
I am a native Spanish speaker and I would like to learn some "dead" or fictional languages like Gothic, Iberian and Tolkien's Elvish. Holy gods! Can you imagine? Nowadays, nobody knows how Iberian and Gothic sounded, the clues about those languages are vague, I think; and Elvish... well, Tolkien was (still is) a genius and I love mythology and literature. Sadly, I'm not interested in learning Latin (my "ancestral tongue"), because I had a lazy teacher at college who didn't know how to teach it.
Languages are like flames, you don't just choose. You suddenly encounter them one day and you start wanting them. I know because I'm quite promiscuous.... linguistically speaking.
Actually a bit different with me- i hated german for a year when i was learning it at school, then i hated it for another year in a different school, then i moved to a different country and all of a sudden o really really wanted to learn it and it didn't go away in 2 years. I started learning german 2 months ago and i am absolutely in love. Abd then English. I learned it for 5 years at school and it's been 4 years since i've mooved to an English speaking country and I finally actually like the language
@@ango8815 I think German is an acquired taste :)) I had a similar experience, I HATED it when I studied it at school, I let myself forget everything and then I suddenly fell in love with it.
Me: Japanese: Hi! German: What? NO me! Russian: Excuse me? ME! Mandarin: hey! ME!! French: No me! Hungarian: No me! Czech: No me! Polish: ME!!! Ukranian: ME!!!!!!! Danish: How about me! Swedish: WHAT? NO, ME!!! Norwegian: ME!! Cantonese: C'MON! ME!!!!! Arabic: ME!1 Turkish: MEEEE PLS!! Thai: Hey! Vietnamese: SHUT YOUR MOUTH ALL OF YOUUUUU!!!! English: Ill be your friend
I think you must choose a language which you will enjoy using (reading, watching media, etc). For example I started learning Mandarin, because I like chinese kungfu movies. Still it's not much of a help as they are originally made in cantonese :D
I'm culturally cantonese, but learnt mandarin first in school. Yeah, learning vocab and chinese characters will help. The sound shifts between mandarin and cantonese are also fairly consistent, so it is possible to extrapolate what a particular word in mandarin might sound like in cantonese (though not always, and sometimes an alternative word might be used instead). That's what I did. I was told that sometimes my speech sounded weird sometimes, but it did help me progress faster than I otherwise would. In your situation, I'm not sure if you have materials for going straight to cantonese (eg. textbooks from hongkong). If you do, it might be something worth considering too.
I want to learn languages, but there are so many other things I would like to learn and it's hard to choose which things are best for me to learn. Also, with most things, I obsess over learning it, but then I find something else interesting and forget about the first thing. It happens over and over. I wish I could just be somewhat interested in something, but be able to stay with that thing for a long time. Right now, I just started learning American sign language. I know the alphabet and that's it for right now. I want to learn it because I want to speak with deaf people. They can't learn other languages except different forms of sign language or written language and I think that many hearing people don't try to learn sign language. I had a deaf co-worker and it was hard to communicate with her except by writing or using basic gestures. Another reason to learn ASL is because it's silent and I don't have to worry about people hearing me talk to myself.
I have the same exact problem, I have so many interests and I will spend a whole week learning every single grammar points and facts in Russian, then lose interest over Italian because Italian is cool too, but then again Chinese looks really interesting and I always feel like I need to learn it RIGHT NOW, not later... I hope I'll stay more consistent in the future *sigh* I love your initiative btw! My cousin is deaf, but I don't see him often enough to learn sign language with him, still I think I should start as well ^^
I finally chose German, but it took me 4 tries with other languages before finding the one that really fit. Here were my 4 false starts: -Greek in college (Awful! So much stress! Teacher presented zero culture, Bible only). -Tried French using Pimsleur audio tape. So slow, gave up. Tried Rosetta Stone, still felt academic. I hate tests. -Tried Swedish self-directed. 90% just reading charts and memorizing lists. I truly loved the language, but my strategy was bound to fail. -Discovered German after I watched some videos of German girls doing ASMR videos. The more I immersed myself in German media, from fairy tales, to food, to history, the more I liked it. And there were some German words I fell in love with (like "baum" for tree, or "Adler" for Eagle), that made me knew I struck gold! I've just moved from A1 to A2 material a few days ago. I'm in no rush and am so glad I never gave up on language learning! Keep digging for your treasure!
That's so cool, I'm german and it's always nice to hear when somebody wants to learn german (: Ist Deutsch schwierig zu lernen? (I'm native, so I was always curious about that haha)
I totally agree. When I study a language I need to love the sounds, the form also be interested in the culture. It was way harder for me to make myself study Spanish at high school than now studying Japanese, Chinese and Korean at the same time. Many people from my country (Czech republic) ask me how I manage to keep up with 5 languages. It's easy actually. If the languages become part of your life, it's not hard at all. Watch movies, listen to music, make friends from these countries... Every day I am angry because of new japanese grammar or Chinese sentence, because I can't make my voice say the tones correctly. However, when I finally manage it, it's the best feeling in the world!!! Don't give up. Life without challenges is boring.
Já to chápu. Miluju Česko a miluju Čechy
Hey guys, if you prefer reading a blog post instead of watching me ramble, here's a blog post I wrote with all my tips related to choosing a language to learn. lindiebotes.com/2019/09/26/how-to-choose-language-to-learn/
My granpa told me that if you are excited when you heard a certain language, it's either you already knew that language or it was your native language in your past life or it will be your native language in you next life.
I agree, some languages or cultures a person is just drawn to- no reason- they just love it....why? We don't have proof yet, but it is a possibility at least that explains.
I am 12 years old💫right now i am learning korean♥️i am from georgia⭐i know english, gerogian and some russian🌟i am learning korean because i want to go to korea💜i will learn there💟i love you so much🤩
how did you learn Korean? I am currently learning it ang still mastering reading hangeul. I go to kpop idols' insta and uses it as a reading practice hahaha
Oh I'm fluent in French (been in french immersion classes for 10 years) and it's actually really fun. It's a paint with all the verb endings and rules but I still like it. Hope you enjoy learning it
You made me really happy. I'm Hungarian and everybody always said how ugly is my language. At the same time because Hungarian is my native language every other languages looked so difficult before I learned English. Now it is easier, especially because I can find good language learning books in English :)
I plan to learn Hungarian. I once saw a youtube video of some medieval-era scene, and it sounded cool. I'm Spanish. I also recently played as the Magyars in my realistic map of Europe for Age of Empires 2, in part to see their point of view in the middle of Europe. It's very nice.
@@scintillam_dei Age of Empires is one of my favorite games, to hear that someone wants to learn more about hungarian history because of this game is great! Remek ötlet!
Languages I speak: 🇬🇧🇳🇱 Languages I’m learning (all because of school 😂): 🇩🇪🇫🇷🇬🇷, also Latin Languages I want to learn: 🇰🇷🇪🇸 Saw someone else have a comment like this, and I wanted to do it to! I have 6 languages at school, but 2 of them I already know.
The three are so good. That's a dilemma ! If you live in North America : French (Québec, Acadia, Cajun country, Haiti, French West Indies, French Guiana, Dominique island, Saint-Lucia island) Spanish (2/3 of the continent) are both useful. Korean if there are a certain number of American/Canadian Koreans near your home (and for travelling to Korea). If you live in Europe, I would say French. Then it depends if you have connection or a special feeling with one of these three cultures. Your choice will be the best. Good studying.
I totally understand your struggle is their any way you could learn two languages at the same time. For example, korean and French or Spanish and Korean. Do not learn French and Spanish together as it will confuse you. Currently, I am learning French and Japanese language, I live in Canada so French language is for career opportunities and Japanese language is just for fun.
I am totaly obsessed with manhwa, manhua and manga. That is why I want to learn chinese, japanese and korean. But I don't know how to start. I do really little steps to my goal
Your situation is the same as me🥺 i read manga, manhwa, manhua + japanese, korean and chinese drama/movie too. So i always want to master those 3 languages, but IDK WHICH LANGUAGE I SHOULD START WITH😭😫
I want to know a bunch of languages, but for now I'm focusing on Spanish because I live in the US so it's the most useful language for me to learn. Plus I love Latin American culture
I do not love Latin American culture, which is why I was so against learning Spanish in school. I ended up in French instead and i fell in love with it.
My uncle got met his wife in Thailand and wanted to learn Thai. Since there were no good Thai study books for Dutch learners to his taste, he just made his own and published them for others afterwards
Every language you start studying, remember that you’ll have to use every one of those languages every day in order to maintain or improve the skill. So if you’re doing 10 languages, that’s 10 hours of time needed every day to keep up the skill. So unless you’re single with no family and only a part time job, it’s impossible
@@lewisdrummond204 definitely not “impossible“ but very hard. Practice similar languages together each weekday and for the rest use media or music each day until you get to the weekday to practice it
@@lewisdrummond204 I'm planning about 50 languages at the same time including some ancient ones, and I have a baby and a full-time job. Progress will be a snail's pace for all languages but on occasion I shall have boosts methinks, like from vacations. If I don't learn them at the same time, I won't be able to compare their difficulties and I will have to wait too long to enjoy them all. "Less is more" of course, and "quality over quantity" and "A jack of all trades is a master of none" except I COULD master some. It just will take more sacrifice.

I am seriously considering learning Mandarin, but I was not sure if I should, I’m kind of scared of the language because of the characters lol and I thought I could be like wasting time (a chronic fear that I have, to waste time) but this video helped me so much, especially the parts “what language makes you feel excited when you hear it” and “what language do you see yourself speaking” and the answer to that is Mandarin!
I felt it when you talked about resources for a language,
I don't speak my mother tongue(weird when you think about it, but it's my native language)
and the ones speaking it are only around 1000 people(if I had to guess) in the whole world, so the experience in learning it is so different than like, learning Spanish. We basically have to make resources by doing field trips ourselves, discovering grammar rules along the way of learning it. it's just...damn...

It made me think "what exactly is my motivation to learning each language?"
English is my second language and the one I use the most in life, despite still living in Brazil, since I consume a lot of content in it, have friends who speak it, and most importantly I'm an English teacher.

So, still quite puzzled, I went home, downloaded mp3 lessons and began learning Cantonese . . .

Watching anime and with it being much easier than chinese because it has no tones to worry about.
There are apps that let you converse in real time with the people in your targeted language.

Hello! I also like to learn foreign languages very much and I teach russian to foreigners in english and in french! I add different videos on my channel about russian and also videos with my other hobbies: piano playing and skateboarding. Maybe if you find something helpful and interesting there I will be happy if you subscribe :)
Hi which is your native language? :)
@@Roxy_303 Hi. Russian is my native language :)
i only just started learning Korean, just because i really like how it sounds and it seems amazing to be able to speak it.
Sadly, I'm not interested in learning Latin (my "ancestral tongue"), because I had a lazy teacher at college who didn't know how to teach it.
this was the video that i needed!
Is so hard I just feel I like them all 😢😢

Languages are like flames, you don't just choose. You suddenly encounter them one day and you start wanting them. I know because I'm quite promiscuous.... linguistically speaking.
seriekekomo FELT THAT.
WHY WAS THIS SO FUNNY HAHAHSJSJSKS

Cantonese: C'MON! ME!!!!!

Turkish: MEEEE PLS!!
Thai: Hey!
Vietnamese: SHUT YOUR MOUTH ALL OF YOUUUUU!!!!
English: Ill be your friend
@LoaiGaming Why is that me?
I think you must choose a language which you will enjoy using (reading, watching media, etc).
For example I started learning Mandarin, because I like chinese kungfu movies. Still it's not much of a help as they are originally made in cantonese :D
I find Chinese women to be extremely pretty but I do not enjoy learning Mandarin, I enjoy Japanese due to animes.
Yup. The best thing about Chinese and Japanese. Once you do one, you've already done the hardest part of the other. Memorizing a tone of characters
But Mandarin will help you after for learning Cantonese
@@fivantvcs9055 Yup, that's the long-term plan :D
I hope I'll stay more consistent in the future *sigh*
I love your initiative btw! My cousin is deaf, but I don't see him often enough to learn sign language with him, still I think I should start as well ^^
You are the only one person who described my problem so well
Woah I'm exactly like that. After a few days I lose interest in learning a language and then another language interests me.
I have the exact same problem, and with ASL too!
Ancient English will be spoken in the future? Nice!
I finally chose German, but it took me 4 tries with other languages before finding the one that really fit. Here were my 4 false starts:
-Greek in college (Awful!
That's so cool, I'm german and it's always nice to hear when somebody wants to learn german (:
Ist Deutsch schwierig zu lernen? (I'm native, so I was always curious about that haha)
That's only three false starts
Looking at the words that you liked from German, I think you would really enjoy learning old English
Are you still learning?

Can't decide between Spanish, Korean and French so I'm really looking forward to this!

I always think like: “why cant i just do 10 at the same time” because there are so many options!
Every language you start studying, remember that you’ll have to use every one of those languages every day in order to maintain or improve the skill. So if you’re doing 10 languages, that’s 10 hours of time needed every day to keep up the skill. So unless you’re single with no family and only a part time job, it’s impossible
