$pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)
A casino owned by Mr. Burns is created and Homer gets a job as a blackjack dealer. Meanwhile, Marge develops a gambling addiction, Bart starts his own casino, and Burns develops a profound fear of microscopic germs.
The episode was written by Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein, and directed by Wes Archer. Gerry Cooney and Robert Goulet guest starred as themselves. The episode features cultural references to films such as Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, The Wizard of Oz, Rain Man and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Приколы
I love the fact that one bite into Homer's improvised breakfast plan, all time stops, under the immediate realization of how bad a mistake he has made.
it must have been pretty bad considering the fact that he eats some pretty questionable things throughout the show
@@TheMemeDragon I would say a good chunk of the questionable things he eats are questionable on a health basis but not necessarily a deliciousness basis. Well there is the deep-fried shirt and the scientifically optimised maximum sourness sour ball, those probably tick both boxes of questionability.
Yea you know, like, it’s the whole point of this video
Cloves, while they have a delicious aroma, should not be chewed whole. Except maybe to numb a really bad toothache.
I mean, eating raw cloves is disgusting by it self but having it swim in a lemon juice and sugar liquid (maybe even gin) is i imagine more then vile
it is so funny how Lisa was talking to Maggie about this lol
Well Maggie has shown some level of awareness about her surroundings, and can actually react accordingly to crazy situations. For a toddler who's implied to be only 1, she has the intelligence of at least a 3 year old minus the talking.
I think she may hve been talking to Bart.
It's all she has left.
@@TallSilentGuy She was talking to Maggie. It's ironic because Maggie is a baby. Hope this helps!
She was talking to Bart though lol
I even get a kick out of the little reaction of satisfaction Homer makes right after putting on the frozen pie crust. That soft high pitched "mmmmm" while twitching his fingers implying how good it will taste
he poured in the ENTIRE jar to boot
Thanks for explaining the joke
Homers a very optimistic and endlessly enthusiastic guy
They don't make em like they used to
@@sickjuicysjamshack3580 He's also blissfully unaware about a lot of things.
"Lets go see ma" that delivery always gets me😂
Sounds like Castellaneta really was eating cloves and pie crust when he recorded it...
@@tommyt1971 it does!
First time watching this I thought he was speaking French lol
Congrats for 1000
I like the eyes just beforehand. Homers jokes are often around that blank look.
The way Lisa says "There's nothing to eat for breakfast!" always gets me lol
"Turns out that Liza Minelli impersonator was really Liza Minelli!" Sometimes I just don't have a clue where the writers got this type of dialog. They were brilliant.
Plus the classic Simpsons shudder (here's another one) ruclips.net/video/RMUEqRx-C-g/видео.html
i dont understand the joke
Could someone please explain the joke
Is the joke that he wanted a young attractive Liza Minneli not the actual Liza who would be in her 50s by then?
@@Alice45894 oh, thank you
You know when Homer won't eat food, things have gotten out of hand.
Raw cloves taste like crap so I don't blame him
Why didn't he make his patented space age out-of-this-world moon waffles, I wonder? Out of liquid smoke?
Mmmm... food
even homer can't eat pure cloves
Whoo-Hoo! I love Supermarket Sweep! \o/
The old Simpsons were drawn so much better. Their facial expressions are genius
@Mal Contender It has no soul man.... and the jokes are just as wooden and emotionless.
The new trailer park animated show is worse than south park. The characters move, then only their mouths move for a minute, then they move again.
The producers think people won't notice how cheap it is.
@@alanmalcheski8882
It is all going down the toilet man, everything will get worse before it gets better.
I perceive that the ‘new animation’ is what’s better. Big whoop, want to fight about it?
@@lordofthefreshwater The Simpsons has been shit since season 8 and beyond.
As a kid, that ‘Clove Collins Mix Pie’ looked really delicious.
It still does now, even knowing what those ingredients are. It's that damn cartoon magic with food
To be fair, if the ingredients were used to flavor some pudding and then baked into a pie it would probably ok, whole cloves are just basically inedible
@@rattyeely eating cloves with make ur mouth go numb n if u eat enough the eugonal will get u high
homer thought so, too
dear god i can only imagine how horrible it would be to eat an entire spoon of Cloves... D:
drowning in Tom Collins mix
With frozen pie crust.
I love the taste of things made with cloves but I accidentally bit into one once and the taste was uniquely horrible 😖 that was just ONE clove
Enough to make Homer freeze in his tracks. That’s quite the accomplishment!
Meanwhile Indonesians were like "we put cloves in our cigarettes!"
"Remember that time I got caught stealing all those watches from Sears? That's nothing you have a gambling problem."
That Liza Minelli joke... Brutal
i don’t get it :(
@@szlendak1368 I believe Bart was calling Liza ugly, because most impersonators do look kinda ugly in comparison to the real celebrities they impersonate.
I'm your 69th like 😏
@@rommix0 I thought it was just the inherent funniness of being your own impersonator
@@szlendak1368 The joke is that Liza Minnelli is fucking crazy in real life. She was so desperate for work she masqueraded as a lookalike because she couldn't get hired otherwise.
This was the peak of the animation style of the show.
and unfortunately the simpson's devolved into the unfunny crap that it is today
Eyes were so delightfully bulgy back then.
@@scslre I personally love that, and that old school late 20th century glow effect the slot machine has in the end of this clip. It makes it feel more organic and innocent.
Pupils too big
*peak of the animation style*
And only got better, at least by my perception.
Homer's understated reaction makes the scene.
"Cloves" dumps entire jar 😂😂😂
Turns out that Liza Minnelli impersonator was really Liza Minnelli *shudders*
🤣
Lisa is politely worrying about the declining state of her family while Bart is busy running his treehouse casino, classic sister and brother dynamic.
I love how Lisa says there’s nothing to eat and then homer being the good parent he is proceeds to serve himself 😂 lol
One of the greatest eps they ever did. ALL HAIL GAMBLOR!!!
Underrated comment.
I feel that I must release you from the grip of Gamblor's neon claws...
So many jokes packed into that 37 seconds. Golden era Simpsons.
Brian Anderson totally these 37 seconds are funnier than modern Simpsons period.
Yep, 2 of them.
1. Snowball jumps out of pot.
2. Lisa talking to Maggie.
3. Bart needing new act.
4. Homer pushing Bart out of the way.
5. Homer improvising breakfast.
6. ‘Let’s go see ma’
@@lazyproductions8005 I've seen this episode close to a hundred times and not once did I ever think that Lisa was talking to Maggie.
Also, I never viewed the Snowball thing as a joke.
To me, the only two jokes are "Turns out that Liza Minnelli impersonator was really Liza Minnelli." And the entire improvised breakfast bit.
I'm not criticizing the episode, it's one of my favorites. We just have differing opinions on what constitutes a joke.
I'm seeing these comments everywhere lately. It feels like some bot has been writing them for years now lol
That "oooooohh" when homer tops the pie crust.
A time when the Simpsons was utter perfection. Not a wasted second in an episode.
I love how happily he says "cloves"
I really feel the improvised meal. As a bachelor with limited cooking skills, sometimes the leadup to grocery day has me playing Russian roulette with ingredients.
Kid: "Mom can we go to McDonalds for breakfast?"
Mom: "We have breakfast at home."
Breakfast at home: *cloves, Tom Collin mix, and frozen pie crust.*
64 slices of American cheeeeese.... 64 (glarf), 63 (gnarf), 62..
Plans for the Creative Commons I THINK I'M BLIND.
Two (glarf) uggghh, oooone (glarf). Aaaauuuauauagghghhhh.
Have you been up all night eating cheese?
*I think I'm blind.*
@@314rft *Mr. Burns & Smithers fall down* Mr. Burns: Good day to you. *leaves with Smithers*
314rft love the way Marge asks him that. Lol
Glarf and gnarf describe the eating noise perfectly! 👏👏👏
I like the subtle detail of the three stacked pizza boxes on the counter at 0:04. Adds a Nice little bit of continuity to Lisa’s comment on Marge’s lack of cooking in the house.
"Let's go see mom" hilarious. I love when Homer calls Marge "mom"
Binging with babish needs to do this
Yes
Lmao!!
Are you trying to get the poor guy killed?!
@@katietaylor8314 he'll do his own take on it probably lol
No he doesn't
the old style animation was way more hilarious. their big pupils and such. had more of a charm to. oh and handrawn animation > digital
By my perception, new style looks better.
@@BlackSoul4876 it looks cleaner and crisper, but it certainly has a lot less soul to it. It is very stiff and rigid, the emotions are a lot less subtle. It's like they have a computer programmed with six or seven basic emotions typed in.
@@SKyrim190 🥱
@@BlackSoul4876 Yeah because your perception is garbage
@@favorites1484 And your perception of me is deluded.
Let's go see murggghhomm
XD Best part of the scene.
not as successful as when he made the flaming homer, apparently.
Soko Burnt cough syrup leaves a more appealing aftertaste as opposed to Tom Collins Mix.
It's called a flaming...Moe. Moe, It's called a Flaming Moe. My name's Moe, and I invented it. That's why it's called a Flaming Moe...what are you looking at me like that for Homer? It's a Flaming Moe. I'm Moe!
No its Flaming Moes 😁
Mmmmm.... fattening.
I don't know the science behind it, but fire made it good!
But Homer can eat the basic _elements_ of food! He ate all the tarragon and he drank all the soy sauce! Of course, he didn't put them together, but still...
One of the things I really loved about the Simpsons is that certain jokes really only work on you once you reach a certain maturity.
THERES NOTHING TO EAT FOR BREAKFAST
Let's go see mom.
i've seen this episode dozens of times and i've never noticed til now that homer knocks bart over with the fridge door
That kills me. No one acknowledges it, they just move on, but it's a brilliant way to remain consistent with everyone's character and remove Bart from the scene at the same time. A+ writing.
The grunt with it is just spot on too. I love it.
I wonder if there's ever been someone so brave to eat a spoon of that without puking everywhere.
Those twitching of the fingers before he eats that poisonous combo...
Homer - the eternal optimist
0:24 The expectation
0:31 The reality
we have to improvise...cloves,tom collins mix, frozen pie crusts ooooo * wiggles fingers *
mmhhh *digs spoon into this mess a few times*
Golden era, that season (93-94 i think?) where they all have huge pupils is one of the best series ever!
The sound of homers bite always gets me 🤣🤣
So many subtle jokes, the animation was perfect (it’s not flawless like how it is now) and even how homer hitting bart with the fridge door was hilarious
"That Liza Manelli impersonator was really Liza Manelli!" - shudders -
That joke has so many levels of funny. She's so out of work, she sneaks into a gig to perform as herself. lmao Or the fact that Bart hires an impersonator but is repulsed by the real thing. lmao Or Bart's little tuxedo with the tie undone because he's so stressed, running his own casino from his treehouse.
This is so like me making food for myself.
when I was a kid when I was home alone I made a microwave cheese sandwich
Lets form a club.
+comic book reviewer At least you made a microwaved cheese SANDWICH. When I was 7, I just cut off a piece of cheese and microwaved it in a bowl and ate the melted cheese.
Esther Klammer I can cook a little, not much, but in an age with RUclips and the internet honestly there's less excuse for people not learning how to cook
This looks like a job for Binging With Babish!
YES!!!
Already getting out the tiny whisk to follow along!
Never make him use more than a pinch of cloves
Damn, I should have scrolled down ever so slightly before I made a similar comment.
0/10 not enough kosher salt
Homer after eating cloves: “Mmm, tastes like I might die.”
Love the way he says cloves
klövs
Homer's face after that bite is unforgettable.
And all it took was one bite for Homer to realize.
“Yeah this is gotten out of hand.”
I think of all the throwaway bits they've ever done, this one is the best.
Never realized how big the simpsons eyes were in the first 5 seasons. I figured the animation was only different prior to like season 4.
yeah the black dots were much bigger than they were in the earliest and following seasons. It's a distinguishable look that makes it pretty easy to spot those simpsons eras :)
I'm surprised no one on youtube has tried to make this and eat it.
Lol would you? That must taste horrendous.
Someone made a tasty alternative, but wasn't brave enough to try it.
1 whole clove is already too much.. and he had a spoonfull with some piecrust. If this would be reality iam pretty sure the person eating that spoon will need a puke bucket and lots and lots of mouth wash :P
@@anotheremptychannel9202 Clown College? You can't eat that!
I am surprised that concoction didn't set itself on fire.
Noooo, that's just steam!
@@rebmcr Ah yes, Steam from the steamed clams we gonna get? mhhhh steamed clams.
That whole sequence with Bart complaining about gettinf Liza Minelli, shuddering, and grunting as he's bumped by the refrigerator door is great.
Homer: The only monster here is the gambling monster that has enslaved your mother! I call him Gamblor, and it's time to snatch your mother from his neon claws!
He should have fixed some of the Homer's patented, space age, out of this world, moon waffles.
he didn't have caramel
He probably ate all the butter and drank all the liquid smoke already.
This is called being drunk and home alone at 3am.
A stash of deep-frozen pizza can save lives.
I don't know why but I've always loved that shot of the whole family standing next to Marge Gambling. Feels like something that would've been used for promotional material or a thumbnail for a modern streaming service.
Golden Age Simpsons: every character's ine is pure comedic gold
Modern Age Simpsons:
It wasn't until I was an adult until I realised how hilarious that recipe truly is
I love that load crunch right when Homer realizes the mistake he made.
0:15 Bart goes flying
That part is so underrated. It just goes to show that for all his brilliant deviancy he can still get swatted aside in an instant and Homer won't even notice.
still my favourite bit from all the simpsons, 25 years later and i'm still in tears 😂
This right here could be a Binging with Babish episode.
I was gonna say:
It's called CEREAL, Homer.
But then I remembered
This Simpsons have really big eyes, im digging it
that realization right at the end really sells the scene
Awesome work
0:30 same reaction I had when I tried vegemite.
A co-worker of mine brought it back from Australia. Over there they like to eat it on buttered toast, and like you said with small amounts. I once took a spoon from it and wanted to gag.
I love the smell of it though
Im from Australia and I think Vegemite is gross no matter how little is used in the spreading.
It's so funny how the cat jumps off the mess at the beginning 😆
bart changes from a shirt to a turtle neck
I love the way the characters look in the earlier seasons, especially in seasons 5 and 6.
Homers moods are based on the food he eats.
never knew what cloves or Tom Collins was until the Simpsons.
Homer: So what do you think of my pie?
Gordon Ramsey: Release the hounds.
This is an actual high quality humor you won’t find in the new episodes
Was...was lisa talking to Maggie like Maggie was gonna y’all back 😂
Low Key it’s called venting. A lot of people vent to things that can’t or won’t talk back. I do it a lot
@@Ronin.Samurai That and Maggie is rather smart for someone her age. She shows awareness levels beyond typical 1 year old capacity.
314rft and she understands what the older children and adults are saying
@@314rft Done for comedic effect though, I don't think Lisa's talking to her has anything to do with such an awareness so it's still funny
Maggie's surprisingly aware, probably enough to sit there and look intrrested
Their pupils were so big in this season, they all look high af
Joshua Oliver it's kinda cute
The man ate cloves soaked in lime juice ofc he's high as a kite.
I have wondered for years how horrible that must have tasted.
New episode of Binging with Babish
Lol the way homer says “cloooves” gets me hahahaha
i loved the animation style in this season
“hey what’s up guys, welcome back to binging with babish, today we are going to utterly bust our teeth with ‘Homer’s Tom Collins Clove Pie’, a pie that was so terrible that it even made Homer himself make a stare in regret”
I'm amazed that pie crust fit so well on that bowl
If I had kids, social services would have a field day with this.
is this possibly the only food ever that Homer didn't finish? (not counting the giant sandwich that nearly killed him that he kept trying to eat)
The beet aioli at Krusty's
Strange. That was an old favourite recipe in our household.
Me after the wife took everything.
I like how Bart has to change out of his tux to go to the casino.
A dad ate a bowl full of cloves. This is what happened to his organs.
I honestly thought the title said gloves and still wasn't surprised Homer would do that
That’s my favorite part of this Simpsons episode
Just watching this gives me that hangover queasiness.
Bart taking his casino business seriously lol
That phone goes back on the handset real quick 0:19
0:31- It was at this moment that he knew...he fracked up.
I had this same reaction the first time I bit into a clove too.
Homer was going to eat a full bottle of Tom Collins for breakfast? He'd be drunk at work.
Plot twist : that's what inspired Gordon to become a chef
