Alan Paul Wichinsky was my 7th grade music class student teacher. We were all swooning over him. He looked like Travolta before Travolta! It was interesting to hear him talk about how his course of study was classical. In our class, he used rock music to excite us about music, and used The Who’s Tommy the first rock opera, to help us understand the structure of opera! How lucky were we to have him. And I’ve followed his career ever since. Great interview. Congrats on 50 years of Manhattan Transfer. And yes, travel and schlepping has gotten to be a pain. You all deserve a rest!

I’ve waited since High School when I first saw Manhattan Transfer live in 1976 to hear Alan Paul’s story … and Richard got it! This is a GREAT interview with so many fascinating twists along the journey of Alan Paul’s pre-Transfer career path. He’s such an extraordinary talent & it was a privilege to hear him speak. And as for Richard Skipper, there’s no other talk show host I’ve heard where the guests repeatedly say, “What a great question”. Richard consistently and empathetically draws out genuine gold from his guests.

Richard -- what a wonderful treat to watch your interview. You asked the most interesting questions and timing, great. Alan Paul has been in my most-favorite vocal-artist list since I saw them in San Francisco Fairmont 1970-something. I used to play in animation and did an animation -on Super 8 of the Manhattan Transfer. Loved the shows and Alan's ripping of the T-shirts. "thanks for the memories"! I absolutely loved listening to the interview, learning about his life, and look forward to Alan's book of Memoirs. Thank you for having him on your show!

I didn't want the show to end, either. It's thoroughly fascinating to hear brilliant Alan Paul engagingly describe his background and path. (I concur about the shlep involved with gigging. It has worn me out despite how grateful I am for the gift of life and a fulfilling career in music.) Great questions as always, matched with a captivating responsive flow of insights, memories, and detailed information.

Loved this interview. Alan, I worked at Grossingers during the summer of 1970. Did you perform there that summer? I went to see the performers every night. I've been watching Manhattan Transfer on RUclips since the interview ended. Love your Japanese concert from '95.
