When the goats or Hurc Jumps up on you, knee them in the chest and tell them "NO!" and do not pet them at that time. It does not hurt them and that is one of the way a dog trainer trains them not to jump. but you both must be consistant with this for it to work. Good Luck with that. I trained 3 dogs that way. Love you guys.

Oh and a MASSIVE thankyou to both Dads for helping. Dads are brilliant (as are mums) - Gosh - Im 49, and my parents who JUST had their 50th wedding anniversary in December (Im 50 in late September.... lol) - every single time I have had issues with my vehicles, were moving (and that involved not only 10 to 14 horses most times, but at least 2 to three truck/massive trailer/caravan loads of stuff) - he would hire small trucks and drive to where I was in the country (Australia is the size of the USA - and mostly Ive moved about half way around it most of the time....) and over he would come to drive all my stuff to the new location. You can never thank parents enough for what they do, but they know you appreciate every little thing.

You could hang the feeders on the fence and stay outside of it to pour the feed into them. Put several holes in the bottom of them to drain the water. Separate them enough so everyone will have their own spot to keep tempers down. Looks like Herc wants to play with Nala more than eat first. 🙂

Good start to the shed. Love watching the goats. Poor Nala is propbably experiencing a little jealousy due to Herc & the goats. So nice that you have dad's that can help you with things to maybe make things a little easier. I know they are more than happy to do anything they can. Weather certainly can determine what can be done on any certain day, but yes, whatever happens, it is better than meetings & the office grind. You 2 are so cute to watch...

Hi guys from Scotland. Good advice for any animal training after years of raising assorted animals. Any animal jumps up , turn your back immediately and fold arms. Ignore them totally untill they get down. When they get down then you treat. Under no circumstances should you pet, rub, treat, love talk to, when they are misbehaving. I noticed sub consciously Kyle stroke Luigi's neck when he went for narla through fence. It is normal to want to pet and love on the boys but this will only get worse unless you nip it in the bud. Ignore bad behaviour and only treat good behaviour. It's worked on my family on anything from birds fish dogs guinea pigs cats hamsters farm animals too. Stay strong good luck much love.

    • @donnajoyner1474
      @donnajoyner1474 Год назад +1

Absolutely, totally agree. They want attention, that's why they're jumping up. Turn your back, fold your arms and ignore til they begin acting properly. Petting or talking to them simply reinforced the bad behaviors.

Watching you two start your very own homestead is so rewarding. I to am going to start making things with pallets. Out side furniture for the most part. I am doing it to start selling them and make a little extra income. I asked for electric tools for Christmas and i ended up getting a circular saw, a sander, and two jig saws. Now to start collecting the pallets. I also will be redoing old furniture. I'm working on a dining room set right now. Parts were loose or broken and the top has deep cut marks. I already repaired the parts and now i have to sand and re-stain and varnish. I love watching you build things. Love your family! All six of you.

I had a golden retriever that would eat all my Christmas lights when he was outside! I called the Vet & told him that I did feed him bread after I realized what he did. Vet said that was the best solution but continue to watch for blood in his fecal matter or if he started vomiting blood. After that, I made sure he couldn’t eat the bulbs…. So if Herc did is eating pine needles, maybe feed him bread & keep watch on him. Better safe than sorry! Losing a furbaby is almost as bad as losing a family member.

Just an observation Kyle & Shannon, you have the grain feeder in the wrong spot. It shouldn't be beneath the hay feeder but beside it at the same level that will keep a lot of the hay from falling in. Also to break the animals from jumping I was told by our vet to bring your knee up when they jump up and give it to them in their chests. It can take a little while but it will work.

Whether they are on your Christmas tree, a wreath or some garland, pine needles can be a problem if ingested. The needles can puncture or irritate the lining of your dog's stomach, and the oils can irritate the mucous membranes. The needles may not kill your pet, but they can make him really uncomfortable and ill. Different trees can wreak havoc on livestock/animals.

Every time they would not stop barking I sprayed them with one squirt of water. I only had to do this two times. When they start barking I pick up the bottle and they stop instantly. Has anyone mentioned to you that putting pool noodles or pipe insulation tubing on your goats horns to protect you and the dogs from getting hurt. Make sure you measure the base of the horn so you know what size to buy. It is especially helpful when you start to have children. It doesn't hurt the goat at all. Good luck building the shed.🤩🥰

Have a spray bottle with water in it and if they start to jump up on you spray a little water into their face. The goats will learn fast that you don't want them to jump up on you. When we were raising goats we had a couple who liked to jump on us. That ended the problem in just a couple times of getting sprayed in their faces. I agree with Shannon!!! The storage tool shed is one thing but a Shed should have a cement floor and have way to heat with wood. You have to remember with Retirement every meal is a feast and every day is a holiday; don't rush the days.

One more suggestion, if you leave one side open and make it 3 walls you will be able to get more stuff in it. Maybe even add a workbench in the back along with peg boards. That way you don't build doors to Limit storage space.

To train dogs, and probably goats, to not jump up on you the trick is to raise your knee into their chest. The amount of force depends on how they respond.

Happy New Year Y'all!! Watching you guys feed the pup this morning, yall might consider putting a feeder on the fence for Herc. Big dogs should eat almost level, not with their head bending down. Reason is is they are more susceptable to bloat, and one cause is eating with their head bent down. I had a friend who learned this the hard way. Might not ever happen but to that one dog in a million, but so easily preventable. Smart idea training Herc not to jump. What a good treat for the goats! The trees offer antioxidants and trace minerals, a lot of vitamin A and C. And they also have de-worming, anti-parasitical properties. Funny how one tree is good for one animal and not the other as Chad told us they are not good for cows. Way to go dad's in helping Kyle and Shannon out. I know they appreciate it! Y'all have a great week!

Texas I really hope they see your message. I even Emailed grandpa Adler and warned him about the same food problem and asked that he tell K&S but it's still the same feeding process on both sides. 🤷‍♂️

Shannon, while you are thinking of an idea to keep the goats from tipping Here's bowl, you might want to think about what Kevin at Hidden Heights has pointed out Larger dogs can develop digestive issues if they have to bend down to get their food.
And now for the laughs. I contacted Ralph's Rentals to see if I could get the tractor after you finish. He did not say no. So when you are finished, could you please deliver it down here to Florida? 🤔🤣

I am 5'2" and my German Shepard stood almost to my waist. I broke her of jumping on me by taking a step back, raising my knee and telling her no when she jumped on me. As with any training, consistency and repetition is the key. You could also put your hand to their face, palm out, while you do the above. That gives them a hand signal to follow. With enough time they will learn to obey the hand signal only.

Nice getting the gravel down for the shed foundation. Eventually you'll have a proper place to store your equipment instead of trying to protect it with a tarp. 😉👍
And yes Mario and Lugi need separate grain bowls. Right now you can see Mario covers one half of the trough with his body and eating out of the other. Luigi is not getting his share. With two bowls spaced apart, if Mario chases Luigi of one, then Luigi can go to the other. You will find as you get more goats, you'll need to space them so when they push each other away, there is always a bowl to go to. Just food for thought. 💖😉💖

Suggestion make a 2 gate system. That way 1 gate is closed before you open the main gate. Use the palettes to make the system. That way you would not spend to much. I love watching your progress with the place. Your friend Mary of South Da6

Kyle, a little lesson on distribution of gravel, pratice keeping a steady speed, as you're doing that have your bucket full of stone/gravel whatever you're distributing high enough to see how much you put out-down that way you would have more control, once you're watching it. Practice makes perfect -- isn't that the saying?
Not trying to undermine you, just
    enhance your capabilities 🤔👍👏❤
