      @@markvitacco9814 I think they are the 4mm ones and the lowest grit available. I will have to check online about that.

    Thanks for the lab and bench tour. More tools to put on the shopping list. And many thanks for the shout-out for the tool holder. In version 2, I made the round holes slightly larger to better fit the handles on some of the tools. This print has generous infill so there is material to drill out the holes slightly larger. 1 or 2mm made a big difference. Stay well !

    Thanks for the video! I have started to dip a toe into the hobby by changing my own quartz watch batteries. I want to take the next step into mechanical by putting together a watch from parts.
    The only thing I am wondering about is what movement would be good for starting out to learn how to service it? Would a 2 or 3 hand pocket watch movement work better than a wrist watch one since it's larger?

    • @HorologyBiology
      @HorologyBiology  Год назад +2

      Thanks for watching. I would say go for it!
      A lot of people do start on pocket watches but I would actually say go for a simple hand wind wrist watch.
      1: You would move on to wrist watches anyway so why wait.
      2: You might even find that although pocket watch movements are larger (like you said) you could encounter some issues that might stop you in your tracks and put you off. Mainly that pocket watches are notorious for having broken balance staffs (no incabloc) so that would leave you in a frustrated pickle as it can be fiddly and you more than likely wouldn't have the tools to replace one.
      A nice simple cheap Swiss hand winder would be the way to go imo.
      Goodluck 👍👍

      The difference is the lenses that you can get. For watchmaking, you need the one with the 0.5X Barlow lens and the 10X eye pieces. I bought the Eakins equivalent of the Amscope SM-4TP (3.5X-45X) recently, which was less expensive, and am liking it so far.
