    Story Time:
The skies above Uleidreos always hung in a hue that was not quite purple, not quite black-an endless, swirling canopy that felt more like a sentient presence than the simple atmospheric shroud of a planet. Eltrys, the world of the Uleidreons, was a place suspended between moments, between states of being. The great mountains, jagged and ancient, pierced the clouds like forgotten monuments to an older time. It was said the peaks had stood here long before the first stars were born, and would remain after the last light had died.
The House of Uleidreos, small but undeniably powerful, carved its home into these mountains eons ago, retreating ever higher as the galaxy grew more chaotic and desperate. They weren’t a house of warriors or empire-builders; their power lay in the mind, in their abilities to see beyond the present and touch the fabric of the universe itself. A power that had saved them in the past, but had also made them targets.
Princess Rhysala, youngest heir of Uleidreos, stood on the narrow ledge outside the entrance to her family's ancient caverns. The air was cold, thinner here than anywhere else in the galaxy, and each breath seemed to carry a crystalline clarity with it, as if the world was always on the cusp of revealing some profound truth. From this height, she could see the entire valley below-the Valley of the Founders-where the stone monuments of the god Eternus and others like him stretched upward into the clouds, silent witnesses to the slow unfolding of time.
The statues had stood for millennia, and the Uleidreons believed they were more than mere symbols. They were vessels, remnants of a lost age when beings of immense power walked these lands, shaping the very cosmos with their will. Eternus, the god of Eternal Peace, was the tallest of these figures, his face serene yet unreadable, a stone giant that seemed to watch over Uleidreos with an unblinking, knowing gaze. It was to him that Rhysala now turned, seeking wisdom in a time when her own powers, once clear and certain, had begun to fail her.
She felt the disturbance days before the visions came-an energy, a darkness, hovering at the edge of her awareness, like a storm cloud that hadn’t yet formed. Her dreams had been fragmented, shadowed. The clarity of her psychic abilities, normally sharp and precise, now felt clouded by a strange interference, as if something was deliberately blocking her view of the future. The larger houses in the galaxy, threatened by Uleidreos’ psychic prowess, had long been plotting, conspiring. But this felt different-an attack not on the body, but on the mind.
It was dusk now, the violet sky deepening to black. The twin moons of Eltrys hovered just above the horizon, casting pale light over the statues and the stone paths that wound through the mountain. A light rain began to fall, the droplets cold as they touched Rhysala’s skin. She wrapped her dark robe tighter around her, the fabric a deep indigo that matched the sky, and started walking down the path toward Eternus.
The trail was narrow, treacherous, winding down the mountainside. It wasn’t a walk meant for the faint of heart, but Rhysala had made the journey many times. Eternus was where the Uleidreons found peace, where their minds could touch the ancient energies of the universe, quiet the chaos, and find clarity. Tonight, she needed that clarity more than ever.
She descended into the mist, the thin veil of rain growing thicker, the sound of it like tiny pinpricks against the stone. The path was lit by faintly glowing stones set into the rock-luminescent markers from ages long past, guiding her steps. She could feel the pulse of the mountain beneath her feet, the slow, deliberate heartbeat of something much older than her house, older than the galaxy itself.
As she neared Eternus, the mist thickened, clinging to the air like a shroud. The statue loomed before her, its massive stone form half-obscured by the fog. Eternus’ face was calm, a perfect expression of serenity, even as the world around him seemed on the verge of breaking apart.
Rhysala knelt before the statue, her palms flat against the cold stone platform. She closed her eyes and reached out with her mind, seeking that familiar connection to the god’s presence. For a moment, there was nothing but the sound of rain and wind, the quiet of the mountains. But then, slowly, she felt it-a warmth, distant at first, but growing, like a distant star in the night sky. It was Eternus, his consciousness vast and ancient, touching hers.
“Peace, child of Uleidreos,” the voice was deep, resonating through her mind like the toll of a bell. “You seek what cannot be given. You fear what cannot be stopped.”
Rhysala took a slow breath, centering herself. “I’ve seen it, Eternus. The dark forces gathering. But I cannot pierce the shroud. My visions are clouded, blocked.”
“The future is not for you to control,” Eternus said, his voice soft but firm. “Even gods cannot see all. You must not fear the unknown, for it is only in the unknown that we find peace.”
The rain fell harder now, the drops pelting against the stone with a sharp rhythm. Rhysala felt her pulse slow, matching the cadence of the falling rain. “But what if this is our end? What if Uleidreos is finally destroyed?”
“All things end, Rhysala. But not all things are lost.”
She opened her eyes, staring up at the towering statue, its features barely visible in the thick mist. “What does that mean?” she whispered, feeling the weight of his words settling in her chest. She wasn’t sure if he was offering comfort or a warning.
“You will face what is coming, not as a warrior, but as a part of the greater whole,” Eternus said, his voice growing fainter, as if retreating into the distance. “In stillness, you will find what you seek. In surrender, you will find your path.”
The connection faded, leaving Rhysala alone with the rain and the mist. She remained kneeling before the statue, her mind swirling with questions, with uncertainty. There was no assurance in Eternus’ words, no promise of survival. Only the quiet acceptance of what was to come.
She stood slowly, the rain soaking her robes, her silver hair plastered to her face. The path back to the house seemed longer now, more uncertain, but she knew she had to return. Her people would look to her for guidance, for answers, and she would need to be ready-whether it was to lead them to safety or to face the end.
As she turned to leave, a strange sensation flickered in the back of her mind-an image, brief and fleeting. A vision of the valley below, empty, silent. The statues of the gods stood tall, untouched by time, but the presence of her people was gone. Only the rain remained, falling endlessly in the purple twilight.
And then, just as quickly, the vision was gone, leaving her with a single, lingering question:
Had she seen the future, or merely imagined it?
As the mist thickened, swallowing the path before her, Rhysala took a breath and stepped forward, uncertain of what lay ahead-but knowing that whatever came, she would face it.
And in that moment, she felt something she hadn’t expected: not fear, but calm.
