Dean seems like a great guy. I like the way he says 'I think" or "What I do". Odds are Dean knows more about rams than just about anyone else yet he doesn't come off as a know it all. Dean doesn't tell you how you "have" to do it. Another great Co-Op video with lots of great helpful information. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Right, because there's no one way to care for fishes. Like people, every fish can be different. Lots of non biological factors also affect their behaviour
I live in the U.K. and have looked at so many videos of Co Op and Deans fish room which are so informative and enjoyable as well.Learnt so much about rams in this video and are one of my favourite fish.Thank you again.
I've never had luck with them in Sarasota Florida tap water, but now I have an RO/DI unit...! So now, according to others in the area, I should have success with them...! Keeping them alive for over a week will be the first win... Only time will tell... Thanks again for more free brain learnins...! Keep up your awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today...!
Great "species spotlight" featuring one of the most knowledgeable fishkeepers out there. Love the great camerawork and editing; also the first good footage of the mysterious "Black Ram". Love this channel.
Dean, your videos have really got me interested in rams. I hunted around local stores and they said they didn't sell them because they die in our water. I saw some in Pets at Home knowing the internet reputation. Anyway I bought half a dozen and 3 months later I have fry with the dad proudly marching them round the tank. It's a very dirty tank with lots of algae and mulm. GH is over 180, ph 7.5. The adults are healthy looking but small.
This is 2 years Im glad I watch it. I got super lucky and local lady breeds electric blues and she just brought in a round of fry. My guy isn't a baby, but he is not full grown. He had the best body condition out of them all, and I also lucked out on his clue coloring too. Thankfully she too let's her rams have a cooling off time before they come into the store. So my new guy is doing much then most would. I do need bump his heat a bit. 79 is really pushing it
Hey Dean and Cory I'm new to the hobby but really am enjoying. Love the channel and of the useful knowledge. Hoping to breed a pair of German Blues in the future but had to start me a community tank
OMG, i got the first fish in my 55g on Thursday, Electric blue Ram Pair :) im in the UK so majority of fish are from breeders in lfs. ty for this upload guys, Deans a master so his imformation is always top notch :)
Thanks Dean your the man! I love these fish they are absolutely beautiful. One thing I have noticed is they do much better in an established tank as opposed to a newer set up. If your thinking about adding a pair of rams id wait until the aquarium is well established
I love these fish, they catch my eye every time I see them! Thanks for the wonderful video, I feel a little bit more like keeping rams might be possible for me. :D
It's just a line bred German blue ram. Their offspring aren't 100% blacks I don't think. I know of only 1 person in the US that has them. They were bred in Israel and the guy got so mad at someone from the states that he will not allow them to enter here.
zzospreyzz55 oh they’re all over now, since they’re available here I’m Canada fairly easily. Dean got some from Flynn in Vancouver. It’s only a matter of time until they’re more popular
Grandfather blue ram AKA "Dean" is a major inspiration. Hearing his story of chasing and breeding fish when he was a young teenager is so inspiring. If only more kids would be like this these days I feel they would be more mindful of the planet and protecting it. Great work!!
Aquarium Co-Op. I went to your website to look for the pre filter kit you had for 12.99 but I didn't see it on there....... do you no longer carry it????
always love your vids, dean. so informative and it's just like a sitdown with a buddy/mentor. :) and i'm glad to hear you advocate for rams... a lot of people are like BOOOOOO boooo BOOOOOOO hisss. saying they just die and stuff.
I wanted to get three different types of rams I wanted electric blue balloon ram, gold balloon ram and German rams do you guys think this will work? I never had rams before since I’m new to the aquarium world
Im lucky my local breeder has adapted them to 78f very well, every german blue ram I've seen from them are very active and healthy i have one in my 20 long with rummynose tetras, scarlet temple, bacopa caroliniana and a red amazon sword so I would definitely look for a local breeder if you just want them for a display.
I'm currently growing out a large brood of GBR in a clear tote, for a few months now, because the parents did a great job raising them in their 10g but they were too large to remain there. They're all healthy and eat like crazy a blend of live and dry foods. I've kept them at 80F and have wrapped the tote with bubble wrap just to insulate a bit. It has a HOB filter. I feed on and off during the day an average of 3 times. They are too large for microworms. I feed live baby brine shrimp daily. I so love rams and you are right Dean, they are one of the most beautifully colored fish next to salties. It's their personality that is great too. They love to interact with you and are very curious about everything in their environment. They hover and circle inspecting every cranny of the fully planted tanks. I did separate the pair to breed in a 10g as they herded all the community fish into a corner when they bred in a larger tank. They were stressed and never raised anything there. Even in the 10g they never raised a brood until I left the light out on the tank and wrapped 3 sides in black paper. I left a pothos vine in there but removed all other plants. I kept leaves all over the place and an assortment of snails (who they terrorized if near the fry). Questions: What is the best size to bring to my LFS? How many should I bring? (not a super busy store) I've shown them the video of my rams and they're interested in them and will give me store credit. How much $ credit should I expect to get per fish here in New Jersey? I will probably just trade for some more fish that I need here (who really NEEDS fish? I DO>>> I DO!) They have Gold rams! I really love any videos you all put out and have learned to very much! Maybe I'll get a chance to visit some day.
Just gotta remember if they sell them for $15 a fish you aren't going to get $15 because they have to make a profit along with care for them until they sell. So if they sell them for $15 I'd guess they'd offer you like $5 a fish. But that's just guessing the price per. I think my local fish store sells them for like $20-$25 a fish, but petsmart sells them at like $8. So it's hard to say.
(Remove large snails to protect potential eggs?) I moved some very big Inca Mystery snails in, when I set up my planted tank and now I have a pair of Rams added. I set up the pots and saucers and wondered if they should be moved out. (I seem to be a "master" snail breeder whether I like it or not and have donated about sixty to a local aquarium to keep them from mobbing the Cat food)
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! So informative, perfect pace! What a set up you have going on there, wow! I’m going to find the other video that you mentioned now. Have a lovely day.
Water softener should add any sodium to your water, the salt is only used to “clean” the resin that absorb the harder metals, and runs a back wash to rinse the resin and drains in your sump area.
We are upsizing a 20 gallon community to a 55 gallon next week and making it a massive live bearer/yo-yo loach community. The 20 gallon will be free space, and I think we are going to try and breed some German blues for profit. It’s $100 for a trio, pray we can keep stable water levels
From my experience, if the tap water is too hard, say over 8, almond leaves doesn't work well and neither does using peat. I think buying an RO/DI filter for soft water fish is by far the best option.
I just brought 3 gbr on Friday. 1 male and 2 females. Such a pretty fish, had a pair about 10 years ago and I don't know why I waited so long to get them agian
Hi! I was watching a video stating rams from big name stores are from Asian markets who keep their water highly medicated and injected with hormones, so that when you get them they die off quickly. Is this fact?
How to add smaller Ram to a already established planted community tank? Added three smaller ram and they were all killed by the male Larger Ram. Should I do a grow out tank first?
Yes I think it is a regional thing like almost all stores near me except special tanks sit around 77-80 as far as I'm aware. And I typically only buy tank bred in the USA because imported and wild caught breaks my heart
Such a book of knowledge that Dean. Maybe some day, I'll be lucky enough to call his german blue rams my own. Thank you for video. Loved all the shots of the fish Jimmy.
Great video!! I truly ador my Rams but worry about tank mates handling the heat. I would love to add Ember Tetras or Neon Tetras. Maybe a follow-up video someday?
I can’t find out if you can use black sand for German blue rams and others. Specifically Aqua Natural Aquarium Sand - in the color Galaxy Black. It says in one description that it’s made from quartz. Basically is there a black or very dark Sand that is safe for small earth eaters? Any help would be appreciated!!!
I have recently got two blue rams suspected pair and they were bright at the store but they have gone pale when in my tank can’t see the black spots . Tank is set at 25/26°C and 7pH fed flakes at the moment any ideas on what I should do? Could it be stress from recently being moved?
You mentioned "sparring", i just bought 3 online from Aqua Huna (off of the coop site), and the rams wouldn't stop sparring, it looked very aggressive. So I took them all out and separated them. I'm worried they'll kill each other. Is it safe to let them spar / will they eventually stop and sort out a hierarchy? They're under an inch long, pretty young. What do u think?
I have a water softener sytem in my household. Should I bypass this to use in my awuarium? I'm new to the hobby, and seen this fish on a facebook page and immediately fell in love!!
I was thinking of doing a 30g with one ram and a banjo catfish and some neons but I can’t find consistent information about the banjo catfish. Maybe rams are too hot water for me.....
Why are Ram so hard to keep a live I got my a 79 to80 but I have lived plants in the tank with him but my plants keep die at 80 so what should I do to keep my plants from Die
I have a question. I have 3 blue German Rams . They are both boys. I have them in a 55 gallon tank and swim together all the time. Will it be okay to add a female ?

I think he is a teacher. He has a wonderful way of explaining things.
Right, because there's no one way to care for fishes. Like people, every fish can be different. Lots of non biological factors also affect their behaviour

German Blue Rams are the First aquarium fish I saw that "Popped" in a LFS tank with wood and Java Moss. I'll never forget how amazing they looked :)
This is the fish I will start up again after 30+ year. Cory you made me start with fish again. Ty
I've never had luck with them in Sarasota Florida tap water, but now I have an RO/DI unit...! So now, according to others in the area, I should have success with them...! @jermainejackson3911 try Bolivian rams... I really like em better than golds or Germans...
The man, the myth, the legend!
Aaayyeeeee! I am loving the Dean videos!

Undergravel filters in the background!!!! Niiiice. They are the best for clear water.
And utilize the gravel as a HUGE biological media source...
Hey Dean and Cory I'm new to the hobby but really am enjoying. Love the channel and of the useful knowledge. Hoping to breed a pair of German Blues in the future but had to start me a community tank
I love dean and Cory. They are the master of the fish world

Hello Mich😊
Thanks Dean your the man! I love these fish they are absolutely beautiful. One thing I have noticed is they do much better in an established tank as opposed to a newer set up. If your thinking about adding a pair of rams id wait until the aquarium is well established

I was thinking of getting these after one of your videos for 20 gal ideas. Thanks!
Thanks. Been waiting for this one!
Dean your awsome at filltering vast amounts of experience into a easy to follow set of instructions thank you
hi! My blue ram male chases the female all day, she tries to hide from him. She s stressed. Should i buy second female? (aprox 3 month)
I love them! Very peaceful in my tank, they just mind their own business!
Love these species spotlights! Way to go Dean!
Great information. IMO I just found the secondary camera a little distracting as it was used far too often.
What’s that black ram? I’ve never even seen a picture of those, they look awesome!
Yes I agree it's a beauty. I Don't know the identity tho sorry
“Dark knight” or “black knight” rams...new strain

The mikrogeophagus johnnycashii
This is probably a stupid question but do I need an air pump for them? Or can I get by with a filter and heater??
Yes for sure. All fish needs oxygen (air pump) to live happily. Air pump, heater and heater is definitely needed for rams
Hi! Could you have blue rams and dwarf powder blue gaurami toghether?
Deans video on breeding German Blue Rams: ruclips.net/video/bhnlqnOo440/видео.html

I can't get enough of Dean's fish room

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! So informative, perfect pace! What a set up you have going on there, wow! I’m going to find the other video that you mentioned now. Have a lovely day.
Rams + Dean + Aquarium Co-Op = 🙏
Do rams get along with barbs ? Rosie barbs ?? How many rams can we keep together ?
Super cool and important info from the man who knows best! Thanks for sharing 🤗🤩
Dean's the man, would love to meet him Cory and Jimmy bit difficult living in uk, maybe one day

@Jacob Dean. I know the work involved in keeping stable water levels. I have 8 discus and they are very picky about stable water levels.
GBRs are awesome. Thank you Mr. Dean for sharing your expertise on these fish.
From my experience, if the tap water is too hard, say over 8, almond leaves doesn't work well and neither does using peat. I think buying an RO/DI filter for soft water fish is by far the best option.
I love my rams so much they are my favorite so i enjoyed this video! You should make a video on how to breed them 😁
How is his water soft yet pH is high? From the tap.
What is that ram at 9:01 it’s mostly black, it’s beautiful!!!!!
I just brought 3 gbr on Friday. 1 male and 2 females. Such a pretty fish, had a pair about 10 years ago and I don't know why I waited so long to get them agian
Any tips for a beginner planning on getting a singular gbr for a community tank ?

How to add smaller Ram to a already established planted community tank? Added three smaller ram and they were all killed by the male Larger Ram. Should I do a grow out tank first?
I've been able to keep my GBR for about a year now and I'm usually running around like 76-79 temperature wise.
Exactly what I was looking to find out thank you
Yup the 3 lfs near me sell theirs at 78 and they look very healthy
Yes I think it is a regional thing like almost all stores near me except special tanks sit around 77-80 as far as I'm aware. And I typically only buy tank bred in the USA because imported and wild caught breaks my heart
Howdy, so you know the Murphy cam is a thing. Would you think about a similar thing with the 800 gallon?
Umm Guy? I wouldn’t want to have a 24/7 camera in my home...
So, you can keep rams with corydoras but don't corydoras like colder temperatures?
Such a book of knowledge that Dean. Maybe some day, I'll be lucky enough to call his german blue rams my own. Thank you for video. Loved all the shots of the fish Jimmy.
Hi Candi😊
Is the reason my Rams die, due to that I keep my tank at 78-79 degrees due to that I have plants and other community fisg
Yes (likely) there could also be a different issue but temperature is likely
OG Dean in the house 💪 My idol ❤️ Loved the LR Bretz stream.
Wil the brislenose plec eat the rams fry/,eggs? Or will the rams be able to guard them ?
Could 1 powder blue pindani - pseudotropheus socolof do well in a community tank of tetra & molly?
Great video!! I truly ador my Rams but worry about tank mates handling the heat. I would love to add Ember Tetras or Neon Tetras. Maybe a follow-up video someday?
I should have noted 85 degrees in there.
Can you have 2 pairs of rams in the same tank ??
Fresh drift woods will also help low pH and certain stones will naturally lower in safe ways. The safest way is natural and slow so the fish can adapt
Dean I live just south of you and interested in buying some of your German Black Rams a pair if possible. If Not where can I get some?
I can’t find out if you can use black sand for German blue rams and others. Specifically Aqua Natural Aquarium Sand - in the color Galaxy Black. It says in one description that it’s made from quartz.
Basically is there a black or very dark Sand that is safe for small earth eaters? Any help would be appreciated!!!
I've 5 German rams in tank with tetras and Cory cats for 6 months and they're beautiful. I keep water at 79- 80
Pamela Woolford What size tank do you keep them in?
@@opstelling4203 planted 38 gallons
Thanks for the tips Dean. Greatly appreciated.
I have recently got two blue rams suspected pair and they were bright at the store but they have gone pale when in my tank can’t see the black spots . Tank is set at 25/26°C and 7pH fed flakes at the moment any ideas on what I should do? Could it be stress from recently being moved?

My LFS keeps their RAMs for sale at 80*F. Should I keep them at that temp, or creep it up to 86*F as recommended by Dean?
Great information coming from the man, the myth, the legend himself! Haha Dean's the man! 😂 Great video Co-op team! 👍
A have a green barb in my tank will the barb attack and kill the rams if I get them?
Rain water, never thought of that, anyone had success? How do you collect, Roof tiles, guttering and felt might contaminate it.
Epic content as usual!!!
Excellent information mate, thanks.
Greets from Australia ;)
What about wild caught blue rams ? I recently bought some that were labeled as wild caught
Thank you Dean!
I learned a lot from your videos with Dean.
Does this advice apply to midnight rams too?
I have a water softener sytem in my household. Should I bypass this to use in my awuarium? I'm new to the hobby, and seen this fish on a facebook page and immediately fell in love!!
Depends how hard ur water is if its less than 8 its fine unless u want to breed them
Dean is a national treasure
dean says water temperature for german blue rams should be 82 - 86 F but its natural habitat ie. Orinoco River Basin stays between 64 and 69 F
It's mainly for breeding. The rams near me all sell at 78 degrees
Is it better to keep them in odd or even number groups?
do you think rams work with honey gouramis?
Can rams be kept with mystery snails?
How do you feel about organic soil substrates for growing plants
What about the bolivin rams?
Can I keep Apistogrammas agassizzi and blue rams together in a 25 gallon planted tank?
Please, i'm dwarf Cichlids aficcionado. Could you gimne some book recomendation or another reliable source of information? Thanks!
Can i keep them with bosmani rainbow ?
I was thinking of doing a 30g with one ram and a banjo catfish and some neons but I can’t find consistent information about the banjo catfish. Maybe rams are too hot water for me.....
Two part question, 1 "angel veil rams" are just a hybrid German blues? 2 do they require the same parameters as the gbrs?
Yes, they are just a longfin version
@@AquariumCoop Awesome! Thanks for the swift reply.. 👍 as always!

Can i keep 1 german blue in a 10 gallon with other nano fish?
2:58 Holy cow, love that dark strain/morph/-insert correct terminology here-
It really is a beautiful fish
How are you spiky Melo😊
Dean is the man
More Dean, awesome!
