Pioneering information on RUclips! Key to building in public. This makes the whole concept really accessible, and tackles many of the basics and doubt one may have, such as the difference with blogs, and more. I’m sold, I’m already seeing how I can adapt my creative work to the Digital Garden. Great job Cal!
Thanks Luca! Appreciate you saying that 😊 I think it’s about adopting a cultivating mindset, instead of a publishing one, which I hope helps more people express themselves naturally 😌 Can’t wait to see yours! Working on some cool ideas on how to boost them too 👀
@@Wanderlootsexactly! I love that concept. I've struggled with the idea of "publishing" for some reason or another at various times. However, I've always wanted to share and enjoy doing so. Cultivation really seems like a good fit. Thanks!

Obsidian is great. I resonated with your description of Obsidian as a use case for journaling and creative pursuits; very well put! As an artist, the Digital Garden you described seems like a logical extension for Obsidian use.
Thanks Jarod! Appreciate you saying that 😊 I look forward to seeing how you use it as an artist! I think it's a great way to build a portfolio, while also enabling an organic trail of links between your artwork to tell a deeper, non-linear story ✨
Thank you! I appreciate you saying that 😊 That sounds exciting! How are you exploring the discipline? Was there anything in particular that you found helpful?
I really like the concept of wandering a connected space of ideas. Exploration is fun. Any tips on how to include classical chronological type blogging within the garden? Do you link the top and bottom of each node? Does this harm the ethos?
So glad that you resonate with it! I truly think bringing in the wandering element of exploration can return us to a calmer, less algorithmic internet than we've seen in recent years. I think a chronological blog within the garden doesn't destroy the ethos at all! I actually introduced one called "Cultivating" that you can see as a folder at wanderloots.xyz on the lefthand side. Along with this element, I have a "recently updated in the garden" table that I added with Dataview on my homepage. I explain how I made it in this video here: ruclips.net/video/-5IcgqlwYMA/видео.htmlsi=i5674yYNPHaf8LUg Hope it helps! Happy to discuss further 🫡
Thank you! 😊 that means a lot. I definitely do! I use Obsidian for all aspects of my knowledge work & creative work, including ideating, planning, and scripting for RUclips. I usually create an outline of what I would like to say in the video, and then do a mix of voice over and extemporizing for the videos. Hope that helps! Happy to answer more questions 🫡
Amazing! So glad you resonate 😊What do you call your different tiers in your "garden"? and have you thought of sharing a select portion of it in public? 👀
@@Wanderloots I'm using daily notes to seedling, that evolve into multiple permanent notes (areas and resources), and they usually are turned into Literature Notes and Blog Posts. I will try to incorporate more specifics to a "garden" - really loved the idea
@@VictorHugoGermano Awesome! That sounds like a great flow and very organic with the digital gardening concept, I can see why you resonate. Let me know when you get the garden set up and I'll take a look 🫡
I wonder how you approach the workflow for linking notes together. I struggle with this because I worry on the note being adequately saved inside a folder, but also has a good file name, ugh haha I have hundreds of notes waiting to be linked. Great video btw!
Thank you! 😊 my best advice would be to trust your gut, follow your intuition with the note naming. For folders, I use the “auto note mover” plugin (making a tutorial on that now actually), so I use hashtags to automatically move my notes to the proper folder. The file name can always be changed, and the links between all notes will automatically update! That’s the beauty of using obsidian ✨ So I just intuitively link as I feel like it, and let the organization emerge organically, rather than trying to structure it so much up front. Hope that helps! Happy to answer more q’s 🫡
Do you mean on the digital garden website? Or on obsidian itself? In obsidian, you can go to a specific note and open the “local graph” where it only shows direct edges. You can then expand to 2-5 degrees of freedom to see further out if you want to 😊
I meant the website, yes. I somehow never really got into the graph feature in obsidian since the direrctory hirearchy suffices. Though I'm moving towards using tags
Ah I see, yes you're right. My guess is there's a way to modify the knowledge graph builder code in the GitHub repo to limit the graph to your preferences. Also, you can ask questions in the discord and someone might have a suggestion. In what way are you moving towards using tags?
I’m actually using the digital garden plugin! I have a tutorial explaining how I did it for free, as an alternative to obsidian publish: How I Published My Obsidian Notes Website For Free 🏡 Digital Garden ruclips.net/video/7f8e5IiUkeo/видео.html

The graph is missing a toggle to show only direct edges of a chosen/current node. Without it it's overwhelming
Do you mean on the digital garden website? Or on obsidian itself?
