I was at my mom's office. Her boss was making a Christmas party. He bought pizza and brought his sons. One of them was playing this and I was amazed because it looked so cool. It was 2000-2001. We were kinda poor and I had no computer. Today, on July 20th 2020 and almost at 30 years old, I finished the game at my own computer and had an Inka Kola (local soda) and a piece of cake as reward for my long patience. 20 years ago I fell in love instantly with the Commando concept of every mission being inspired by a classic WWII movie. At the time for me, it was better than being in the movie myself. The funny thing was that this game kind of killed my mood to ever play another game again because I never could find one to come close to it. It was just like the whole industry took the wrong direction and I kind of lost all interest in games. Some say that Desperado is basically the same thing as Commando but I never felt the urge to even consider playing it. The other funny thing is that once I've finished Commando I was so fed up with killing that I felt I never wanted to play it again. And then, some ten years ago I found all three parts in one package for like 5 bucks in the supermarket and had to buy it. I told the sales guy:- Man, I used to play my brains out over this like 10 years ago. And he said:-Me to. I think I saw tears in his eyes. It was as if we fought in WWII together side by side. I played first two parts again and stooped at part 3 because I was disgusted to see they made it in the first person. And ten years later and covid and I still don't want to play it again but nevertheless, intend to keep an old Pentium 3 with Win XP handy for the rest of my life just in case I change my mind. The only truly magical game I came across in my life and a real piece of art.
You should try Desperados III. It gives me so much ”flashbacks” to those old Commandosses, even though it’s set in the Wild West. But the gameplay vibes are just the same, only modernized to modern day standards.
You know, you can play it in new computer running Windows 10 now. There is some RUclips video explaining how to do it. I've done it and it works flawlessly.
And that was, I think, the hardest game of all. I played Commandos 1 (both) and 2. Especially 2 on easy was too simple, just f ctrl-x everything if I'm not mistaken. In Behind Enemy Lines, you actually had to develop a game plan with steps in order to avoid detection. I still have to go back and finish that one day, never got beyond one of the desert missions I think (In the Soup?)

As a 11 year old kid, I used to watch my uncle play this game on his PC. Today 15 years later, I installed this game and completed it on my own. I sent the screen shots to my uncle, and we became nostalgic about good old days! :)
Great story. It's funny you say that because I had the exact same experience with my uncle, but with Desperados. First video game I ever played and he taught me. I love RTS games so much and they've come a long way. These classics will always hold a place in my heart tho

This game is a gift to humanity. I was 12 when I came across this game. I found it on my uncle's old computer, which used for bookkeeping at his shop. I visited the shop during my summer holidays. At first I was confused, but later as I played more, the interest developed to a whole new level. I can't thank enough the makers of this divine creation. Commandos behind enemy lines was a pure joy for me, the version I had on my pre pentium PC was probably hacked, so I could not save during the stage. I had to play the whole level perfect in order to advance to the next level... so many beautiful memories I cant belive I had the patience to do it that way. Pure joy!

First 15 mission a blast no problem but the last 5 mission tough as nails... Beyond the Call of Duty every single mission was hard with the last one I couldn't find a way to do it... I finished the First one with my brother..
There is something special about this series. These games normally aren’t my cup of tea and I’ve tried others like Shadow Tactics, but Commandos is the only one in the genre that gives me any satisfaction. Great vid.
Destination Berlin was my favorite! I miss the good old time where people were trying their best to make games look and feel different. Now everything is 3D, graphically beautiful but lacks diversity

One of the earliest taste of computer strategy games of my life .... Didn't know it (gaming) will eventually become an addiction ... But those were the awesome memories about this game and playing with friends and even celebrations after completion of missions. funny days.

Started playing in 1999 when I first saw my computer teacher playing. Lived thorough the missions and strategies. We were a group of 8 people, who would play on 4 computers in the computer centre. We planned the strategy and played as a team of 2. Even the discussions during class hours, lunch breaks, weekends were completely about the missions and game play. We knew the cheats but never used it. I got so addicted that I even wrote these cheat codes on my terrace so that the future generations could see it and use it, if needed. But yes, sadly the developers failed to think ahead and there's hardly a Mac supported version.
I had 1, 2 and 3 (still got a disk from 2 haha) and loved it. The graphics/looks of the maps were absolutly beautiful. And that you needed to be 'stealth' most time was really cool. Better than just shooting like RPG's.
Dude there’s actually hope, just saw a trailer for desperados 3 and I played a great game called ‘shadow tactics: blades of the shogun’ about 4 years ago. It was amazing had the commandos nostalgia and shows that game developers still see a market in this type of game
Commandos 2001. Used to play 5-6 hours per day back in 2007. It was matter of pride in among friends who can finish the game first. Great memories. Sadly majority of today's gamers will find the commandos games, old tomb raider games(1-5) boring and will lose patience very fast. These games actually needed some really good brain work and skill to complete. Nowadays most games are so dumbed down its not even worth playing. They purely just rely on straightforward actions and doesn't encourage thinking and using brainpower. UnLike the old games.

I loved the series in the 90's. I played them a lot. The only thing that I didn't like in the PS2 version is the thief, who was so fast that he could run easily all over the estage without being caught or shot.

Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines is still the goat. Beautiful pre-rendered graphics with lots of details, no pointless background music, just raw tension and chess-like strategy on a decent difficulty level that kept you pondering for hours.
Commandos introduced me to war RTS games. Also when i was looking to repurchase this game i also came accross soldiers heroes of world war and men of war series. I love RTS genre

Commandos 2 HD remaster looks like a shit, its only a filter. There is nearly 20 years of difference for that. What a shame! Did you know there is a mod of Commandos 2 titled Destination Paris?, includes enhanced graphics, new missions, new windows supported, and more. And completely FREE!. Do from Fans to Fans. This is only a bad quick work to do money as fast as possible.
Commandos was one of the reasons I really wanted a PC back in the day. I liked the second part the best probably. But my favorite game in this genre was Desperados, however. It was very similar to Commandos except much harder with a far smarter AI and enemies would permanently change their routes if they get alarmed. You could also pre-program actions. But I will definitely try to play the HD remake of Commandos one day.
Ohhhh the nostalgia hits sooooo hard! I love that stage where you take over a Japanese airstrip somewhere in New Guinea - and the setting in Formosa (Taiwan).

with this Coronavirus shutdown, I went again through each and everyone of the commandos games. Man... what a good franchise. The best Commandos from my point of view is: C2: Men Of Courage. The hardest Commandos: Beyond the line of Duty (but the last 5 missions from Behind Enemy Lines were glorious) I didn´t like Commandos 3 that much. Although I enjoy playing it. Favourite mission from all Commandos: CASTLE COLDITZ.
It's true Commandos: Strike Force was an an attemp to explore the FPS genre, but it failed. Hoping this will get a remake, I just do not wanna see it as a bitter thought.
I played Behind Enemy Lines and Beyond the Call of Duty 2-3 times each but didn't find the sequel so entertaining. I still regret that I didn't upload these. Will do one day.

Biggest mistake that's was made to introduce commandos in 3d mode , that cause the end of series, hope they will made another game like Commandos 2

Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines is still the goat. Beautiful pre-rendered graphics with lots of details, no pointless background music, just raw tension and chess-like strategy on a decent difficulty level that kept you pondering for hours.
Nah, 2 was the best. Not in terms of difficulty but it has music, graphics.
Commandos introduced me to war RTS games.
Also when i was looking to repurchase this game i also came accross soldiers heroes of world war and men of war series. I love RTS genre

After all these years, I'm finally able to play Commandos BEL again in Windows 10. This is still one of the games I love most.

Not really though, the characters definitely have new HUD faces that they've shown off in screenshots plus the actual icons were clearly re-done.
It is good in my opinion. Else a drastic overhaul would have adulterated the original flavor or gist of the game. I prefer it like it was 20 yrs ago.

Ahh commandos 2.. the only game in history which embedded the words "yes" and "no problem" into my brain for years to come.
Commandos was one of the reasons I really wanted a PC back in the day. I liked the second part the best probably. But my favorite game in this genre was Desperados, however. It was very similar to Commandos except much harder with a far smarter AI and enemies would permanently change their routes if they get alarmed. You could also pre-program actions. But I will definitely try to play the HD remake of Commandos one day.
Feeling nostalgic. I don't know why they stopped at destination berlin. It was the best. The FPS one really got on my nerve.

Ohhhh the nostalgia hits sooooo hard! I love that stage where you take over a Japanese airstrip somewhere in New Guinea - and the setting in Formosa (Taiwan).

When everything went wrong and you load out of spite, and then you see the previous mission loads. Remember to save every 5 seconds

Oh Dear! This game brings back so many childhood memories! 😢 We use to play this one and Midtown Madness cops and robbers Multiplayer during 2001-2003! I know those days will never come back but I have a lot of memories to cherish! 🙂🙂

The hardest Commandos: Beyond the line of Duty (but the last 5 missions from Behind Enemy Lines were glorious)

It's true Commandos: Strike Force was an an attemp to explore the FPS genre, but it failed. Hoping this will get a remake, I just do not wanna see it as a bitter thought.

I played Behind Enemy Lines and Beyond the Call of Duty 2-3 times each but didn't find the sequel so entertaining. I still regret that I didn't upload these. Will do one day.
