won't the tendency of GA aircraft wings to oil can cause the bondo to crack & separate ..... we used to do this procedure with fiberglass glider wings (it worked well ) ............. JRW
I really think the big problem is that the rain was adding so much humidity that you couldn't get a good smooth spread. If this really works I'd suggest a before and after video to help your claims. Since I do video for a living I'd suggest a complete re-shoot and use a second camera in an enclosed and properly lit hangar. I was going to get a cherokee but now I'm looking at a Cardinal. Any advantages with other aircraft? Good Luck
The wing smoothing is from the leading edge aft to the forward spar only. The Fuel tank screws that go fore and aft are covered by the extruded metal fuel tank fairing that are included with the kit. You can easily remove the tank fairings to access the fuel tank screws for fuel tank removal. By strut I presume you mean the wheel strut? The wheel strut is located aft of the forward spar so it is not affected. Hope that answers your questions!
You are welcome and yes, Laminar Flow Systems is still in business. All sales and manufacturing are handled by the sister company, Power Flow Systems, Inc. Feel free to visit our updated website at www.laminarflowsystems.com.
wow.. how much money will be invest in sanding and filling and paint it back a wings on a piper 140!!! maybe more money that the money is worthy .. how much weight you add to the wings for the price ?
The best time to do this is when you were going to paint the wings on your aircraft already. The gains are substantial and definitely worthy of consideration. Typical installation time is 15-25 hours dependent upon the condition of the wings. It doesn't add much weight at all - a few pounds. We took a 150 HP PA28-140 and with all the mods available took it from 122 MPH to 150 MPH without changing the prop pitch. Price for all the modifications with labor at the time was about $13,000 (2002). See laminarflowsystems.com/press/ to see the article in General Aviation News.
@@AlexMunson2 There is no STC for a certified aircraft to use Bondo on a wing skin. Especially covering wing skin rivets that must be inspected in annuals for signs of overstress and corrosion. . . There is nothing in AC-43-13-1b or 2B to use bondo on alclad. . There isnt a single STC to use bondo to smooth a wing skin. The FAA regulations call for replacing a skin with a PMA part, or cold rolling out the dents. There is nothing approved to use a filler on alclad.
My PA32 had the bondo wing smooth. A very fast PA32
Saw a Piper Cherokee with extended wings and lots of bondo all over the wings. It had not aged well. I believe this video solved the mystery.
I have a ford minivan that could use some laminar flow.
What you need to show is a 'Before and After' flight with the same power figures and the airspeed gain. That would show people that this is worth it.

not if applied correctly. surface prep the key

Is the whole wing done or just the front part? What about the part where the strut and fuel tank is?

Thanks for your contribution to general aviation. Are you still in business?

Except where the fuel tank bolts are, hey need to be removed from time to time for repair and wing spar inspection
An aircraft with bondo on the wings? I'll take a pass.
here is the modern product, what the military uses Henkel LOCTITE® Hysol® EA 960F™ AERO Low Density Epoxy Adhesive Paste
This is all totally illegal.
I'm literally holding the STC in my hand right now. But it's still a bad idea, it doesn't age well at all and is worse than before!
