Loved her on Laugh In. I had a crush on her, before I knew what a crush was. She's a fine actress. Check her out in Sugarland Express, Spielbergs' first theatrical release. She's really impressive in it. Also, good in Dollars, Cactus Flower, Shampoo, Private Benjamin, among others. I really liked her in The Banger Sisters, a few years back. Very talented, and she's still gorgeous.
"Laugh in" was when I fell in love with Goldie "Big trouble in little China" was when I fell in love with Kurt.
"Overboard" made me fall in love with them equally.
"Private Benjamin" (1980) was ahead of its time. She was excellent in it!

Same. I feel so sad when I look at Goldie and Nicole Kidman who are both victims of this dysmorphia resulting from ageism and it’s resultant pressures. Aging naturally and a few wrinkles are beautiful. This is not. Recent trend. While the feelings & temptation to do this is not recent, the epidemic of disfiguring & swelling fillers is. I find it’s now affecting younger women as well; it’s very troubling.
@@ns2110theonly exactly. I’m all for doing what makes you genuinely feel good about yourself and that includes plastic surgery. But there’s no way that these women can look in the mirror and think they look good with all of the filler distortion, and in Kidman’s case frozen no expression face too.
I agree with you, but at 55 myself, I get it. For me, part of it is looking in the mirror and thinking who is this old woman? Then I think well I don’t look bad for my age, instead of thinking damn I look good, bad, whatever. I think most people feel this way, age does play into it for us. When we’re younger, it’s the if only my nose were smaller, boobs bigger, etc. MUCH of the pressure we put on ourselves as women comes from the unrealistic and false media narrative that to be attractive you must meet their ridiculous and changing standards. It makes me both sad and mad to see SO MANY women of all ages looking like plastic clones of that standard.
I’m all for aging naturally, but I’m also a big proponent of taking care of my skin now. When I was younger, we didn’t know about skin cancer or that tanning aged your skin so I have been using retin A for few years.
But if there’s one thing I have learned through the years, it’s that being comfortable in your own skin, which to me, means being accepting and happy with your appearance, but even more importantly, being cool with your internal self. Not much is more attractive to other people, even though they might not know that’s the reason.
@@tracyjohnson5023 indeed. And me too, i’m all for plastic surgery in older women, not young (that’s wrong on many levels) but not when it’s disfiguring. Because that’s just dysmorphia and sends a horrible message to younger women. The swollen lips make women look like they’ve just been domestically abused. Most often perfectly attractive before, in their natural state and are now ruined. But their thinking is so distorted that when they look in the mirror they don’t see what normal people see: swollen lips way too large for the faces, overly inflated like a bad science experiment gone wrong. Our psych research lab was in the midst of a study on this last Feb right when COvid closed our school. It was difficult to continue the study remotely so we’ve postponed it until we can reassemble. But one of the last data sets we saw on this showed 90% of male respondents repulsed by pics of young women with artificial, inflated lips, but that 87 % of women respondents thought the same women looked beautiful. Lesson: young women in particular are deluding themselves that men think this is attractive, when in fact men are revolted. Respondents 2K men, 2K women, restricted to IIRC, LA, NYC, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, Philadelphia, maybe one or two more, no clue why those cities, 18-35, photos also 18-35 ie peers. Anyhoo...makes me wonder who they’re doing it for. Actresses I can semi-understand, as perhaps this is affecting their careers, job prospects etc. But regular women? I can’t.

I’ve got exactly 2 years on you & I’ve been using Retin-A since high school, prescribed back then for teen acne, later for it’s benefits. I remember becoming aware of the dangers of skin cancer, around 82-83 & sunscreen with SPF came a couple of years later. Prior to that it was Bain de Soleil gel 4 set to “FRY ME NOW”. But you’re so right. Perhaps because of that Retin-A, who knows, I’ve managed to escape the sagging & wrinkles of my peers. But I’m not one to read fashion magazines, a boring academic & i’m sure that plays a part. But I won’t care when the wrinkles hit me. That’s part of life. I don’t want my husband, children or students to see a wax figure when they interact with me....
