The flashbacks are so useful and much appreciated in your videos, Nigel! Incredibly pleasing to see years of progress in just a couple of minutes. Repotting the Royal Oak seedlings that you gave me in to a forest in a couple of weeks. Very excited. Be well!
Thanks for sharing ! Love seeing older recap videos when the trees were younger vs their current state, it really helps gauge the amount of growth to expect! :)
Honestly! I have learned so much about root development from you Nigel. Thank you yet again for another great video! ( I hear the Guava flowers are amazing)
@Nigel: Watching your repotting reports, I think I will be replacing perlite with pumice in the future. Perlite sure seems too fragile for over-year or even long-term pottings.
You certainly can, but it depends on the species whether the roots are pliable enough. Guava have brittle roots that will snap before being repositioned. Also, if you prune at the right time for the tree and give good after care, it’s easier and more likely to create ramification to prune the roots hard.
I'm still hoping for life in the tree, I repotted it and it began leafing out, then I had to move it to make space and I forgot about it in the cold basement. It lost all the new leaves and there is no signs of life yet.

Nice root work on this tree. Now for some spring growth for the roots and the tree so that you can see which branches are alive.
Those were some crazy roots!! Well derooted Nigel!😃
The Guava's root system is on a good way. Let's hope the next repot will be sooner than in 6 years!

Can’t believe how many roots compressed in that small pot wow 👩🏻🌾🪴
Thanks!
Hello and many thanks, it's deluxe Cappuccino time!!
another great lesson in root pruning! thank you 😊
Guava bark looks very mature. I like it
What about superglue for the bottom of the pot to keep the crack from spreading? Just a thought.
Yep, a good chop will help.

Might be interesting to chop the trunk down to about 3 inches over the next winter.
Looks like a happy Guava tree to me Nige!
Thank you!
Lisa
Thanks...
Good candidate for an air layer!
Decisions will be coming!!

Nice root base. I must have missed something somewhere as I’ve not seen your Ficus Friday lately.
Have you thought about of doing a literati style you’ve got a nice branch on your right
How do your plants survive such severe root pruning??
To thicken trunk early on, wouldn't a larger pot help?
You could still place a flat tile under root base to force roots to grow out around and then down into substrate.
👍👌👌
My guava bonsai 2 year old did not survive the root pruning 😢
Sometimes I wonder why people cut off roots (growing in a bad direction), instead of redirecting them. I'm gonna guess it helps slow the growth?
I get too worried about killing trees. Lol

I seem to have missed something somewhere. What happened to Ficus Friday.
And succulent Sunday..😮 my hunch is that Nigel doesn't want to be restricted to a set schedule 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Ficus are in the plant room now. Suppose they come back when they can go outside. It’s a seasonal business.
Thanks @@HansWeberHimself
It’s Thursday 😂
I'm surprised you don't wire any of your trees in.
I don't want wire marks on my roots!!
Can we get an update? 😅

Something tells me that this tree needs to be repotted on a more frequent basis..Those roots are very aggressive..
