This show really does feel ahead of its time. The animation is fluid and graceful, the characters are charming and a bit unorthodox given what you would see in these kinds of shows (the main male character is more Peter Parker than Tony Stark), and the action was pretty incredible. If anything held it back, it was the villains, which were pretty par for the course when you get down to brass tacks. That said, wonderful 80s magic right here.
The camera angles and motion on this anime are out of this world ! You will never find another hand drawn animated series or movies with this camera angles and motion. WHOW !
I loved this show, but it really didn't know whether it wanted to be a goofy comedy or a full-on action cartoon. The six individual Orbots all had comedic personalities, while Gary Owens was the most over-the-top narrator possible. And then they'd combine, and all silliness would be thrown out the window. That said, it still deserves a better legacy than "sued out of existence by Tonka because they were somehow too similar to Gobots despite being nothing like Gobots".
I don't know if many noticed. Each individual orbots transforms into a larger form before turning into a Mighty Orbots part (making them sharply detailed and metallic shiny).
The Real Issue was Tonka didn't want competition for the gobots so sued saying that orbots was a rip off of gobots. Thankfully Transformers got revenge for the orbots by crushing gobots in popularity.
I love how the badguys actually saw Mighty Orbots separate into the smaller Orbots that form it. Thank the smaller Orbots for saving them, invite them to their concert, and then after capturing two of them proceed to completely forget they are components of Mighty Orbots.
There are photos of preliminary test shots of Godmars in Orbots colors. Also, there are papercraft models of the team. Very simple construction, but effective.
I was in my early 20s in the 80s and when it came to a toss up between the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour or Mighty Orbots, the Orbots won EVERY time! Trademark quabbles with similar concepts came along, Orbots was sentenced to an untimely single season, yet between Transformers, Go Bots, etc. The Mighty Orbots stands the test of time and holds a very affectionate place in this particular fan's heart. SCREW copyright law...give us fans a long awaited live action or computer animated feature. I'm quite sure that nostalgic fans like ourselves would certainly pay for it through streaming, admission, etc. (Lucasfilm, I'm talking to you!)
@Philip - It's not about discipline. Higher ups constantly cutting costs is the problem. They honestly won't be happy until they obliterate hand drawn animation.
Yeowtch! This may figure into the fact of Dezaki's team (Tokyo Movie Shinsha) apparently getting Japan rights - as well as creative input - in the deal with Silverman. There's a clip of the Japan airing of "Mighty Orbots" lurking on YT containing "Orbots, GATTAI!"
It even uses the same sound effects as GodMars when the robot combines. The never-produced toy was going to be a recolor and slight remold of GodMars, too.

The Tonka lawsuit is what happens when you let lawyers watch your favorite cartoon show.
Tonka was hating but they got theirs when transformers kicked the gobots azzez then Hasbro bought the rights to gobors

Called out by Rob as "Orbot Mode" in the carnival episode.
I am realized this since the 1st episode
Its amazing how much anime we used to watch in the 80s before we even knew what anime was lol
I Wish Mighty Orbot has a voice too as well.
Gobots: This looks awesome... We’d better Sue!
Yeah I figured as much, paranoid shits
The one problem this show had was going up against Muppet Babies & The Smurfs on Saturday morning. If it was placed at 10am, it would’ve KILLED!
-Couple that with competing against ABC's line up of Pac-Man, Scooby-Doo and CBS's Saturday Supercade.
10 am was too late. You had to get the kids in the earlier 7-9 am slots. By 10 am, parents were up and trying to get the kids to do something.

@@trevorhall4973 Well, this originally aired on ABC
Man the animation was superb during its time! I miss the voice actors of that day particularly the late Don Messick (Crunch and Rondu)
This needs to come back. i can still see lots of of potential with the premise.
Is Miss this Show my friends. I Miss All the Shows of that Great Times. Thanks.
The animation is amazing period. This is when the Japanese animators wanted to produce work for America.
have to admit, this has some of the best animation for its time, and the voice acting isn't too bad either,
That's probably why Barry Gordon later voiced the gearhead in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"
I remember loving Crunch he looked like a lot of my uncles at the time with his dad bod
I love how the badguys actually saw Mighty Orbots separate into the smaller Orbots that form it. Thank the smaller Orbots for saving them, invite them to their concert, and then after capturing two of them proceed to completely forget they are components of Mighty Orbots.
Cruch was my favorite one when I was a kid.
Crunch
Yes 🙌
I wish they made toys out of these characters. And, I’m referring to those that transform and combine.
Guess you could paint it. www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=TOY-RBT-4537

The animation is incredible for its time! To bad no one ever bothered to revive it.
They were sued by Tonka.

Orbots Activate!
Orbots megazord!. Ojo, me gustaba la serie y este vídeo lo encontré de rebote.
Mannnn do I ever miss this

Happy 40th Birthiversary, Mighty Orbots.
Some 80s american cartoons made form japan animators. Like Thundercats
This animation is decadant...That show must have been expensive as heck...
Like a fine cake or pastry.
Imagine the cross-Pacific phone bills alone...teleconferencing in 1984 for storyboard and design concerns was nothing like it is in 2018.
amen to that

IIRC, it was the only Saturday morning kids' cartoon that was actually filmed in 24fps. That's full movie quality. Yea, that's pretty expensive.
It was wrong for this series to be cancelled after one season.
They were sued into oblivion by Kenner i think
Dude stole Cobra's bike
In the promo pitch video, he looks more like Cobra also. Search for Broots.
고드마르스라는 일본 애니메이션을 닮았네요^^
The combined robot reminds me God Mars
designed by the same company

Way over due for a new toy line and series
Go Mighty Orbots!
Cool!
2:52 who’s here from slater
It looks weird when it's slowed down😂😂
ゴッドマーズかな?。
never see that coming
The Omega Robot
God! I'm so glad they revamped it. The animation was cool but, eeh! The name and eeh!
I have the complete series
La robot amarilla, hizo el ki-ko-hu?.
Hizo la onda vital de suv xero :v
Mighty sore butts
Sad that this show had to be sued by the much inferior Go-bots.
That's got to sting being sued by K-Mart Transformers.
The orbots meca design is regionally from the Japanese Animated meca robot godmars
