Cody, I don't know anything about woodworking, blacksmithing or forestry, I don't own my own home or have children yet, I'm not religious, and all the tools I've ever owned could fit inside a shoe box. But having watched your videos for the past little while, and having seen how you move through different topics and interests as they become relevant in your life, your channel has quickly become my absolute favourite on RUclips by a long shot. Even when I'm not learning about a new tool/skill/hobby, I'm watching one of your furious rants or chats and I'm getting inspired by your philosophy on life. Sometimes I'm just plain impressed by the production quality and effort that you and your family put into your videos. For what it's worth, I'll cast my vote and say I hope you continue doing whatever you want to do on your channel. It's really some of the best content I've ever seen on RUclips, so thank you.

I've been following your channel for a few years now. I love it on so many levels. To me it is more of a homesteading channel rather than a DYI channel. This allows me to enjoy all the many aspects of your homesteading lifestyle. I'm probably never going to do the same type of projects you do, yet in their variety that life brings, I find I enjoy leaning about all these various endeavors. As well, over time I've formed a bond of sorts with your family, especially appreciating your values which I share. Your vids are a bright spot in my day and am thankful that you are willing to share what you are doing with us viewers. I'm very honored by that and your vids.

The theme of the channel is modern homesteading, I thought. So as you chronicle your life, you are depicting what the life of a modern homesteader is all about. Both you and Mrs.W and Jack as well have to all wear many, many hats as would any homesteader. How much more authentic and true to your theme could one get? Its not all fun and games or is it doing only those things you like to do: you have to take life as it comes to you. While maintaining your principals you do what you have to do. To use a well hackneyed saying, it is what it is.

Cody, your comments are as wonderful as your videos. I have enjoyed your channel for over five years or more and your evolution has been remarkable. I often remark about Mt Fuji or since I discovered it was really Mt Olympus, but your family and your channel has made my wife and I smile and warm our hearts. Thank you for letting us be a part of your life thru your videos. God bless you and your family and keep doing what makes you happy and remember there is only one we serve.

"Telling stories," "bringing us along," "learning," thanks for being there for us, in these and so many other contexts. Whether you're rescuing a neighbor, milling a log, finishing Mrs W's kitchen, or so much more.... It is all part of life on the homestead. And many of us LOVE it. Many of us know that in your life's cycles, we will get back to our favorite things, or things unplanned to learn, such as the search for a stove, the whole thing about soapstone, and much more. And I enjoy your long videos, short videos, family videos, solo videos in the woods, and so on. Just continue doing your thing. A number of us will come along with you. Life has variety, and so do your videos. And I am blest.

i agree with Louie.. even though the channel is more about daily life now, and not so much wood work etc, it is "freaking calming to watch".. i have no interest in the soap stone thing, but strangely enough i found it interesting as a whole when i watch it ;) i actually started watching your channel because of the old tools and the wood working , but i must say that the entire channel is still interesting -and im guessing that there will be more tools and wood stuff along the way (!) ;)

I have watched many wranglerstar videos, love them all (especially the political and philosophical videos, [keep preachin!]) but i stumbled across this video while ordering clothes online. One of the garments colors was called soapstone, and out of curiosity I googled soapstone to learn more about it. Who woulda known that Wranglerstar has a video borderin on the subject. loved it, keep doing your thing! but while I'm here I must ask, what is that beautiful mountain in the distance?

Dear Cody, I just wanted to thank you greatly for your beautiful content.
I would be lying if I said that I watch every video of yours, but I greatly enjoy all the ones I watch.
They are always calming and manage to put a smile on my face even in my most dire times.
I learned so many great things through your videos, and you manage to teach new lessons every time, often with things you probably didn't even intend.
And not only do I want to thank you for your wonderful content, but also because you managed to give me a whole different perspective on conservative values, and managed to make me understand and respect a lot of them, which I don't think I could say without your wonderful channel.
I think through your channel I learned a lot about what to do to have a happy and loving relationship, and I hope that one day I find someone like you did.
And when/if I become father one day, I think that through your wonderful example I will be a better father.
For I have had very bad luck with mine, and you are one of the best examples of how to do it better, again, thank you.
Greetings and much love from Germany, and despite me being atheist, I wish you all of God's blessings, and may he keep guiding your way.

I haven't been watching in a couple weeks because I haven't seen the topics that I traditionally watch you for, but now I think I'm gonna just sit back and appreciate the care you put into your videos a little more and enjoy the ride. Thank for the years of inspiration and education you have given me.

Soapstone is close to talc mineralogy speaking therefore very soft. It is durable but not very resistant to shock so don't drop it.. Also, where finding soapstone (serpentine) in the wild one can expect to find jade. The bowl shown in this video appears to be cast from fine dust. Baby oil is fine to 'season' soapstone. Also, a certain species of cedar grows only on serpentine so wherever one finds that species of tree they will find soapstone...and jade (nephrite and jadeite). Lots of uses for soap stone.

A tip for spreading the heat better throughout the house, is to put a thermoelectric fan on top of the stove. It does produces its own electricity from the heat of the stove and is completely scilent. I got mine from Jula (located here in Norway), and I have cut my use of firewood. Manufacturers claims that it'll save you 14% and I believe it's not exaggreated. If you want to know more, just search for "stove fan" on youtube or google.

Your channel portrays the reality of life on a day to day basis. Life is not an all and every day choice. It takes a lot of different hats to prepare our daily lives and keep a household/homestead running. Keep up the good work and we all will be watching. Thanks and God Bless

this is the first time I have seen any of your videos. I'm trying to make a determination on what type of countertops to use in my home. That's how I came to see this particular video of yours which I found to be absolutely fascinating. I had no idea there could be another person on the planet who was as enthusiastic about soapstone as I have always been. I will go anywhere I can to find soapstone and I can't stop rubbing it. since I was a little kid I have always gone to all of these weird stores like at the Grand Canyon and stuff and I would buy soapstone eggs. Your video was awesome and every time you asked a question I answered it and you did exactly as I told you to do!

If you connect an air duct from under the house to your wood stove's primary intake, you won't have excessively dry air inside AND the stove won't consume oxygen from inside your home, which is better for everyone's health.

Soapstone really is beautiful, thanks Cody for creating this video! When I lived out in Virginia, I went to an auction where an old quarry worker lived and bought a slab cut from the local quarry near Schuyler;. As beautiful as marble, and yes I would say soapstone stoves hold their heat wonderfully well! A Scandinavian company bought the quarry and kept the town alive quarrying stone for their wood stoves. If you're ever out that way, it's just a few miles from Monticello, VA.

I had no idea what soapstone is, I'm from Norway, so I had never heard of it before, but as soon as you coated it with oil and it went dark, like yours did when you oiled/heated it up I realized that is the same material we have for our kitchen island and counter tops! It is truly beautiful! I could show you a picture if you want, no wonder you love it, I love it too! Its just so smooth and almost soft-like! We oil it up every now and then to keep it smooth and beautiful! We bought it from way up the valley from here, they drove it all the way down here for us. It's like over 3x1,5m big, weighs like 200kg atleast!

It’s like a small tank that does 134mph. I’m German and Italian, so I truly appreciate and enjoy their products. I also buy American when I can. It’s just refreshing to see how unbiased you are. Hey Cody, if there is too much air gap for the trivet to work properly, take the gasket material off and float on a smooth layer of high temp RTV. It's soft, non-marring, non skid, and will transfer the heat evenly from surface to surface. I did that on my favorite stoneware coffee cups because I was afraid they would mar my surfaces and I wanted to quiet the cups down in the morning when everybody is asleep. Works great! The gasket material is made out of woven fiberglass, also the particular variety Buck gave you is for going around the edges of glass in wood stove doors. You'll notice how the weave of the fiberglass is thin in the middle and thick on the edges. You place the edge of the glass in the middle and then fold the thicker edges over to each side. The glue allows the gasket to stay in place until you can install the glass pane. You can imagine what a pain it is with out the glue.
At least that's my experience in my 15 years of Chimney Sweeping and woodstove repair.
Great decision on the Hearthstone, my favorite stove to service and clean behind. They are always the cleanest flues and simply beautiful.

When I was in Jr High I took an Art class over wood working one year, I'm not exactly sure why but I did. When I was in This art class the thing I remember with the most fondness was carving little soap stone sculptures. I haven't thought about that in ages but after watching this video I went and looked for some of my old carvings; they aren't good by any means but it was great being able to look back and remember doing that. You're right as well about the texture of soapstone, I can't say there's anything quite like it! Thanks for a trip down memory lane!

Hi Cody, I have been a subscriber for many years. I have watched the channel grow and change. Sometimes I go back and watch your older videos on subjects that interest me. I have to say, it is not just the quality and production values that have improved, you (and Mrs W and Jack) are much more comfortable and natural in front of the camera. I really enjoy the "follow along with our life" feel of the more recent videos. There are many subjects that ebb and flow (timber framing, tools, etc). This keeps the channel interesting as I always want to tune in to see what you are working on next. To be honest, Wranglerstar is my favourite tv show, I watch it far more than any show on tv. Keep up the great work.

I'm in love with soapstone. Never heard of it being used for a countertop, but I think I would *love* that. That evaporator is a thing of beauty. I have a soapstone bowl that I've never used because I didn't know how to season it. Obviously, I've had it a long time, because these days, I'd just Google it.
I first started watching because of the axes and stuff as well, but as your channel has changed, it's opened my eyes to new stuff. Not sure why anyone would decide that they no longer liked the vids because of the development that has clearly gone on here.

I personally prefer the vlog format, I really feel like I have got to know you both and to be a part of your homestead and to sample how life can be in such a beautiful setting is something everyone can now see but precious few will be able to actually do this for themselves so thank you for sharing.
You are both very blessed to have such a beautiful place to live.
Keep up the vlogs, although I really enjoyed your previous videos and have learned a lot from them, to get to know you both as people whilst still having the opportunity to learn is something far more precious.

My father is a Finnish master brick mason who makes the larger stoves you mentioned. They are well worth the money if you can have one built/installed in your house, as they retain heat for such a long time. Having a stove still warm when you wake up the next morning is very enjoyable during the winter.

Your channel has grown on me this past year or so, and personally, I really like the direction you're taking with the slice of life format, as well as the occasional DIY projects. The way you cut the videos together makes it feel as if I'm right there experiencing the task of the day first hand, so I say keep up the great work, and as long as you keep making great videos, I'll be right here to watch. Thanks, Wranglerstar and family.

What I like so much about youtube is the diversity. I like what you do with your videos. I like your take on things, your charm, and your enthusiasm about the things you hold dear. Just make videos about what makes you happy. You will never make everyone happy but I think you will retain most of your viewers by just simply staying true to yourself.

I have been watching your channel now for a few years. I do most certainly enjoy all the videos you have done on axes, timber framing and really just being a craftsman. during all this time I would like many of the videos, but I always refrained from commenting. As your channel had evolved into a more personal blog, you have invited us in to share your life. I have been more encouraged to comment because I almost feel like I know you and the family. You have done what you have needed to do, and your true followers or friends respect that, enjoy it, and are thankful that you guys share something so personal... that is your lives. Thank you for sharing.

I enjoy the format of the channel quite a bit. The instructional videos are great, they're how I found your channel in the first place, but I really enjoy the variety of exposure to new & different projects and interests as we follow along. I think it makes the channel more interesting, and gives a much more complete view of the realities of day-to-day rural life.

I love the channel the way it is! Love to see all the aspects of homesteading and your life. If it's about axes its about axes if its about a stove it's about a stove, doesn't matter to me at all. Keep up the awesome work!

Soapstone Specific Heat Capacity: 0.98 J/gK compared to .46 J/gK for cast iron so its physically double the heat storing capacity but 4 times isn't too far off. Nice! I always use soap stone for welding marking. Where J = Watt seconds, g=grams (mass) and K = Kelvin (temperature). And four of the insulators is correct to keep the air flow underneath convective and concentrated

I think people view your channel as much for the information you provide on a varying of topics but also for the live that you live. Your Viewers love your videos because they wish they had a little of what you have in their lives. Keep doing what you are doing because you are bringing the love of living life back to people and refocusing them on what is important in this crazy world.

The thing about homesteading is it is simply not always about axes, power equipment, knives, guns, etc. There is a whole lot more going on than just that. I love the channel because you show a lot of the things that happen on the daily basis instead of just the "exciting" stuff. Not everyday is an adventure, but every boring step will usually lead to one.

I've carved soapstone statues with knives and files (the pure soapstone is very soft, the type used for countertops is a slightly harder variety with many metallic impurities that make it harder to carve without power) and protect the finished statues from scratches by heating them up in the stove and melting wax over them.
Very heavy statues, but they feel great when you make them, the filing is very easy and sanding them smooth is fun. If you like working with wood, you'll love soapstone, it's easier to work with. Biggest issue is finding good quality stone, most of that you buy is either too hard or too weak. Best seems to come from Quebec. Well worth getting into as a hobby.

It's nice to hear you say how much you appreciate the view, even though it's probably easy to get used to. I live in a unique area too, so I can tell you it's easy to become saturated by it and eventually take it all for granted.

I used to make soap stone jewelry for my mom when I was a kid. You can get really beautiful pieces of stone with black and green veins and they polish up gorgeously with a little bit of bee's wax or, yes, facial grease/oils.

I was glad the closing chat mentioned the "change" in format and your dedication to keeping up the format. I don't know what it is about the channel but you keep my husband and I enthralled - it feels like we are a part of the family, it feels comfortable and each ending view of Mt. Fuji feels like a vacation. Record whatever pleases you guys because it works for us! BTW, your mic on the closing chat is so rich in tone! I am sure it wasn't inexpensive so thanks for that investment!

We used soapstone in my university art class (sculpture). The properties you noticed make it perfect for carving. Any woodworking hand tool worked great and the soapstone dust is what we call talc, as in talcum powder.
