IMPORTANT After posting this video, I learnt that the idiomatic expression ‘call a spade a spade’ may be considered offensive to some people. When the saying first entered the English language, the word ‘spade’ referred to the garden tool used for digging in the garden. Unfortunately, however, more recently, the word ‘spade’ has been used as a derogatory (insulting) term for Black people. Because of this, you may decide to use an alternative expression, such as ‘tell it like it is’ or ‘give it to me straight’ to convey the same meaning.

"To call a spade a spade" has an equivalent in Italian, but with bread. We say "dire pane al pane", that sounds like "to call bread, bread".

Hey Lucy, I have been watching your videos for the last two years. It would be amazing if you could do videos on vocabulary related to holidays, cooking, a school day, and a workplace with a touch of British culture in it.
