Greetings from new Zealand, Jonny we enjoy how you walk us through it, keep it on the runway Chunky man,it doesent mean a thing if it does not have that swing, hold it down,We wish you all the best J from Kiwi land.
You have the best and most useful paino insturctions on RUclips. You make a complex subject simple and sound you achieve is still amazing. Thanks a bunch, Jonny!
Wow! I really like how you always apply this stuff to actual standards so we can see how it works in context. Really helped with explanation. This video made me consider signing up for a course. :)
Fantastic video. For someone like me (a decent amateur classical pianist, with a good grasp of theory - but wants to play & improvise jazz piano) this is an absolute goldmine! Thanks for this superb channel - and I’ll probably sign up for the resources!
Great lecture ! A real master. Not a matter of being easy or difficult, but sounding good and professional. This is a serious hobby for me now. I wonder if I had these tips when I was a pro 20 years ago. Greetings from Brazil. I will keep in touch and practicing.
Thank you so much Jonny. I hated music lessons so I'm not great at reading bass notes but I can follow you by ear and I spent three hours on this tune today. Sounding great!! Can you show us the next part too? You should post some vids of you performing for us to enjoy.
I really appreciate what you do. Than you for putting free lessons and tips for free on your channel. I would love to buy your course with Johnny but as of right now I cant buy it, but I will buy eventually. Edit(Thank you for putting autumn leaves on the key I couldnt find on any youtube videos, it really encourage me to transfer all the information into a different key.)
I like your walking bass line so much I'm going to write it down! There are other youtubers that provide a PDF for free to download the lesson. Can you please do that for these? Thanks for a great video!
Dude, this is great! I was looking for resources for a new piano student of mine (adult in his 20s), who is pretty much an intermediate level player with a good basic understanding of chords and inversions/voicings, and I decided that learning jazz was going to be the most helpful next step for him. I chose "Autumn Leaves" as the first tune to work on, because that was the first tune *I* learned in college jazz courses, for chord theory and creating bass lines, etc. I started my student with simpler chords (triads and 7s), and left-hand arpeggios to fill in the long spaces. This video lesson is a great next step, and I told him to watch it! Do you have any videos that teach ear-training? Interval recognition, learning to hear chord progressions, etc? Or any recommendations for a good resource? A book or app? (There are a couple of apps that I've recommended to students, but am not really thrilled with either of them.)
Will I learn the whole "Autumn Leaves" those if I pay for the full membership? I like this approach I would like to learn more than just first few bars of it.
So easy , so effective. Wish I had this long long long ago. But then the internet wasn't as developed yet and going to lessons was just plain ----> yeauaughhh! Thanks for the time and lesson. I hope lots of people enroll in your courses. I might even do it myself - but where am I going to find the time?>?>>>???
Hi Mr. Jonny !! If may ask you are there books on walking bass for piano or other materials to study ,,I really love this stuff that you're teaching I just want more !! What can I say ?? I do love to read music first and then take it and do it my way !!
i'm really confused over the rootless voicings. how can they be called the chords they're called when many add a 9th and stuff that aren't even in the chord that's marked down? can someone help?
Isn’t A to D up a fourth? Cycle of 4ths ala 2 5 1 you’ve said this in other posts bugs me. C to G to D to A is fifths!! If you look at the progression backwards it’s 5ths
Thomas Radcliffe Replying late, but maybe you’re still interested: UP a FOURTH equals DOWN a FIFTH. Some people call it cycle of fourths while others say cycle of fifths. It’s exactly the same thing though.
@@janethudgins8175 Its E minor when you switch to F#m7(5b) > B7 > Em7 ...you got to keep your mind in the harmonic dynamic, even you stay at the same tone
its so boring listen to when you play on that plastic device. You can really hear the sound of when you press down the notes. You are a great pianist. Use a real piano !
Johnny has the luxury of knowing he can afford to invest in such things, because his living is off of it. However, for the rest of us, who are just amateurs and enthusiasts, we don't have that kind of money, and we can't justify the purchase of such a luxury. Why do you scorn it as a "plastic device"? For those aspiring musicians, that "plastic device" is the only thing they have, and they are glad to have it.
@@jpg6296 I don't understand how you connect salery with instrument. What I just ment was that a musician like him should play on a real instrument, a "piano". I dont think you've ever seen for exampel a profisional classical pianist play on a keyboard.
This is why I love YT. i live in the mountains and have no access to this kind of instruction. Thanks Jonny.
Finally someone who explains this very mysterious walking bassline so well! :-)
Excellent lesson. Jonny you expertly combine teaching theory with practical application that can be used as a roadmap for many jazz classics.
Jonny, with you I will never be lost! 💗💗💗 Thank you 😚

Which course is this on your website? Couldnt find it...
cycle of 4th for easier? btw, why there is a sharp in the sheet?
Because is in the key of E minor
