From Wikipedia:
Texas State Highway 130 (SH 130), also known as the Pickle Parkway, is a highway from Interstate 35 (I-35) in San Antonio along I-410 and I-10 to east of Seguin, then north as tollway from there to I-35 north of Georgetown. SH 130 runs in a 91-mile (146 km) corridor east and south of Austin. The route parallels I-35 and is intended to relieve the Interstate's traffic volume through the San Antonio-Austin corridor by serving as an alternate route.
The highway was developed in response to the tremendous surge in truck traffic on the I-35 corridor brought on by the North American Free Trade Agreement during the late 1990s, especially truck traffic originating from Laredo, where the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reported 150 trucks entering the United States every hour. A proponent of the highway's development, Capital Area Transportation Coalition, said that congestion along the I-35 corridor is costing businesses more than $194 million a year in higher operating costs and lost productivity.
The 41-mile (66 km) section of the toll road between SH 45 and I-10 has a posted speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h), the highest posted speed limit in the Americas. As of September 2012, the only speed limits in the world higher than this are the 140 km/h (87 mph) limits of Poland, Bulgaria and Abu Dhabi, though some jurisdictions like Germany and Isle of Man have roads without any posted maximum limit.
Yeah that highway is so wide and new and well paved 85 mph seems likes your going 55mph. 100mph feels slow, the road is like, .. is that all you've got?
Even at 200 mph feels kind of slow
thats not even a wide highway here. we dont call it a wide highway till 5 lanes each way gen purpose minimum
85 speed limit begins at 39:43
The only North American motorway with a European style speed limit. Most continental European countries' average speed limit is 130 KPH (81 MPH); some nations, like Poland have a speed limit of 140 KPH (87MPH) on newer stretches of motorway, &, Germany has no limit on rural stretches of the autobahn system.
the highest actual speed limits you would see in most states is 70-75
Plenty of western states have 80 mph speed limits. And in practice, almost everyone drives 80 or more on highways in most places, regardless of the speed limit.
Nobody drives the speed limit, the speed limit here in Indiana is 70 mph yet everyone’s going 90+ mph.
It’s too easy to get a license in the usa imo
@@kakahtukatand sometimes 80 at west coast and some parts of the midwest
YES YES YES!!!!!! LOVE THIS HIGHWAY!!!! Definitely my favorite highway in the country!!! 🤩
There is a reason more highways don't have higher speed limits and it has nothing to do with safety. By posting a slow limit the cops know everyone will be speeding so they can go out and collect revenue anytime they want. I live in the country so I don't go on the interstate a lot. But even in the country there are many 55mph roads where that limit is far too low and should be 65mph. Hardly anyone actually drives 55mph all the time and I can tell you for sure the cops don't. They are out there doing at least 70 in the 55 zones because they are apparently above the law.
This speed is near the speed of the German(West Germany when I was stationed there), Autobahn highway. Many drivers drove 100mph average speed in 1974, and some drove faster,
normally in the inside lanes. The Autobahn was built for fast speeds. I drove on the highway and kept in the right lane because I did not want to drive at 100mph plus. Many drivers run
over the speed limit on the interstates at 75 and 80mph.
Drive like Hell. You'll get there. When the Kansas Turnpike was first opened in 1947, it also had an 80 MPH speed limit. It's a mere 75 now.
Where is the interchange with tall ramps?
@@kennypalermo9071 There are those in most major Texas cities. There are some five-level interchanges in Dallas.
@@rjmcallister1888 What were they?
Took this Badboy from 35 S to 181 going to Corpus last summer.. it was nice!
The differential blew up on my old Dodge Ram the second I got to 85. Lmfao! Thanks Texas 130...
Woah, Mike! I expected this video from you since you're by San Antonio and Austin but didn't know you was really gonna film it! I bet you had fun going that fast, huh?
Oh yeah it was awesome. I mostly kept to the speed limit thought 😂
@@MileageMikeTravels What exit number does Texas 130 begin?
@@Roadtripmik but its NOT legal to do so LOL

I'm so glad, this Lone Star State is my home state.😅
Just moved here. Love it!
NOTE: Pickle Parkway is named for former Texas Congressman J J Pickle (D-1963-1995, died 2005 at age 91), not the vegetable.
Not trying to be rude or disrespectful fr but I wouldn't think they would name a state highway after a vegetable
Most Americans ignore the speed limit anyway. It’s 70 mph speed limit in Iowa interstates but many go 80 mph or so.
I remember going 85 mph almost non stop at 80 mph speed limit in Utah on I-80 west of Salt Lake City to Nevada state line.
Same in texas on i10 east of el paso and west of San Antonio my dad went 85/90 mph the whole time
*Hypothetically, I was hypothetically going a hypothetical 144 mph on a hypothetical Sunday morning hypothetically on Texas 130 back in October 2023, hypothetically. Hypothetically, it was hypothetically awesome, and hypothetically felt like I was only going a hypothetical 100 mph. Texas 130 is hypothetically a phenomenal highway for hypothetical speeding. Hypothetically speaking, of course.*
Your speed is logged with your toll photo if you didn't know that. It doesn't show up on your bill but it is sent to Texas DPS for possible enforcement later basically you are on a toll road watch list. You are fine if you don't do it in a pattern that is easily predictable or they will have DPS waiting for you, or have an accident on the toll road. If either happen get ready for your dirty laundry to be aired in court all of it.
@@greyfox78569 *Only if you hypothetically go through the two gantries (between Point A and Point B) over a certain average speed.*
That's not the only highway in Texas where the speed limit is 85 mph. I -10 between El Paso and San Antonio is 85 mph too for a much longer than that highway is
It's 80 mph. I just moved here (by vehicle), but did go up to that, yes.
The highest posted speed limit in the UAE is 160 kmh which is 100 mph
Being a trucker must be amazing on these roads. I wonder what their max speed is
probably 65 mph, the faster you go, the more wind resistance you get and more fuel consumption there is👌👌
i dont think there are many governed over 75 and most are governed i believe at 65-69 mph
Nice ride on TX 130/45 South
시원시원한 영상 잘봤습니다. 😊
I wish we had 85 mph speed limit in Ohio because half our highways are 60 mph and 70 mph and nobody in Ohio does the speed limit, 85 mph is the best speed limit or higher because 60 mph is too slow or less on highway in Ohio.
Yeah. It took forever for the state to jump trucks from 55 to to 65 as well. Back in the day I felt doing 55 in a truck was just a road hazard.
@@lornes7526while I understand trucks have lower speed limits because of longer stopping distance, 55 honestly just seems like a recipe for someone rear ending a truck at 75mph
@Sam-w5v Yup, it is. I have a lot to say about that stopping distance too. Probably about 75% of all our equipment has disc brakes. I've seen all the data the from gov't testing, and an 80 000lbs truck braking from 60mph is around 240 ft, cars average 130. Long gone are the days where drum brake trucks would take 520 ft to stop. There's a drive to advance technology, make trucks safer, but then they create unsafe conditions with restricting truck speed. They're working towards a speed limiter mandate in the US. Ig anything, it's going to decrease safety, not increase.
@Sam-w5v I'll reword part of that to restricting truck speed from the flow of traffic speed makes it unsafe.
Most highways in texas are the fastest highways in america anyways. Speed limit signs in texas and frankly in most states only apply when you see a cop car and in texas everyone is speeding including the cops so it doesn't matter
Idk if I’d ever drive on this toll road…I mean if the limit is 85 mph, there will be idiots doing 90-100. I’d be surprised if I got out of there unmarked
Didn’t realize just how wide the medium is on TX 130.
Also I will admit I would be a little nerved driving TX 130 between Georgetown and Mustang Ridge considering the bad drivers in our country with an speed limit of 80 MPH through this stretch.
This was supposed to be the new Interstate 35 initially, as it was supposed to be re-routed around Austin.
The speed limit in the UAE 160 km/h which is 100 mph
Looks like your driving well under the speed limit
How fast were you going could you please tell me?
How fast were you going on the 85 mph highway?
why louisiana don't have roads like this
Probably can't afford it. Texas has way more money than Louisiana.
No for real 😂
Great video! Just on curiosity, does anyone know how much the toll road is going the full length (from Georgetown to I-10)?
Around $30
@@mexstrat96 Thanks!
I wonder why Austin has so many incomplete interchanges though for highways that completely intersect each other. There’s only two complete ones in the whole area 🤔
Eh, I don't know, Texas have been really annoying with the ghost ramps, although some is there for good reasons.
40:35 Am I hallucinating or are they (to the right) really going THAT FAST??
Even more obvious @ 41:20
Yep. They’re moving out there. This was all real time.
That's the frontage road that is free to travel (compared to the tolled state highway). It has a 65 mph speed limit so yes it is fast
This toll road helps drivers bypass Austin while driving between San Antonio and DFW and vice versa in case of I-35's traffic congestion through Austin. I know *I can't drive 85* in there because this ain't the autobahn (I know I'm referencing I Can't Drive 55, but that's my last sentence to say in this comment.).
well i thot Texas had road surfacing that eliminates nearly ALL road noise from tire contact... all you have is wind noise and engine noise ... this road must not be one of those?
Coming from northeast roads there is a significant change of pitch in noise while driving, wouldn’t say it’s “less noisy” than traditional New England paved roads, just different
why it seems that everyone going slower than 85?
Timestamp for 85 MPH sign please?
48:45 found one
39:41 First appearance of the 85mph sign is at the fittingly named “Mustang Ridge”
85 speed limit begins at 39:43
In philly we already hauling 85 mph in a 55
55 is so low
@@Tony99_xx_ things are closer together
In fact, this road has the highest speed limit anywhere in the Americas (85 MPH = 137 KM/H)
Only 6 countries (that I am aware of) have higher speed limits than the Pickle Parkway.
140 KM/H or 87 MPH: Bulgaria, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Turkey
160 KM/H or 99 MPH: United Arab Emirates
Infinity: Germany (the famous Autobahn has NO SPEED LIMIT on some stretches!)

Just like a normal day here in Germany. Except most people are goinf 79mph while others svream by at 100+mph.
I'm designing American roads for transport fever 2 game and this video helps
I used to work for the company that created some of the technology used for these toll roads. Texas builds nice highways for sure. That's the way to do it.
Abuse the limit and do 90
On Long Island in NY, the highway speed limits are either 55 MPH or 50 MPH. The infrastructure is much older and Long Island is very densely populated (7.6 million people). The highways that have a 50 MPH speed limit are the Belt Parkway and the Cross Island Parkway. The others such as the Southern State Parkway and the Meadowbrook Parkway are 55 MPH. The Southern State Parkway can be very dangerous for people who don’t know it because it has so many curves. The Long Island Expressway (LIE, Interstate 495) is the only highway on Long Island that commercial vehicles can use.
Nice video
