Studied "How to Build Horsepower, V2" by David Vizard. Great book. Written for V8s but the principles are the same. My takeaways for this project was the flow gains of a radiused "entry profile" for velocity stacks. A straight tube entry reduces flow 6.7%. The radius increases it by 2.8%. Hey Mike, I was curious if you know of a good place to dual plug some shovel head heads. I live in Oklahoma and the doesn’t seem to be anyone around here set up to do it. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
I don't know too many people in your area. I know a lot of stuff happens in Texas. You could call Truitt and Osborn in Wichita, Kansas. Or, if you don't mind shipping, try Dave Mackie Engineering in Ventura, California. All of these people have web sites. You could even try Googling "Dual Spark Plugs for Harley Davidson Shovelheads."
Mike when you initially push the carb into the rubber ring on the manifold, should that fit be tight and not loose at all? It looked to be tight, mine is loose and I think I have a leak.
42mm Mikuni???? I run a 48mm Mik on an early stock FXR with no more than handmade pipes and I can't get the fuel in fast enough...different motor, same concept, I get it, I like to run a motor a bit lean just to see what it can take

Normally, I start with a thought... "The bike was running fine until I repaired an electrical problem." I'd say you have an electrical problem in the rear of the motorcycle. Where did you perform your repair? Your entire system may be "grounding" from that wiring. If you can't find it, look up under the rear fender for damage to that wiring.
@@pacificmike9501 thanks for respond , yes i did repair of all wire on the rear i disconnect my big connector to cancel all my new wire repair and still running rought..
I've used both late heads and early Evo cases and (high performance motor) was able to run both breather systems, which relieved a lot of pressure in the crankcase, which really made the engine much easier to seal. So basically, sure. Sorry I didn't say more.
Hey Mike, quick question, everyone has an opinion on it and I Know there's many good products out there. Mr. Badgas hath spoken. And there it is.
Is it necessary for a external breather system to be routed outside the carb for the evo?
Well, letting it breathe out to the atmosphere, is better for the motor.
That sure is a purdy motor!
Thank You. We try.
@@pacificmike9501 Thanks Mike I’ll try that.
Mike when you initially push the carb into the rubber ring on the manifold, should that fit be tight and not loose at all? It looked to be tight, mine is loose and I think I have a leak.
If it's loose, it probably leaks. It's a real good idea to keep a fairly fresh one in there.
Makes sense, thank you.
On breather the ones going in the heads do they have o rings on evo
Different years have different stuff. Use proper service manual for your year and model.
42mm Mikuni???? I run a 48mm Mik on an early stock FXR with no more than handmade pipes and I can't get the fuel in fast enough...different motor, same concept, I get it, I like to run a motor a bit lean just to see what it can take
Okay.
Are the mikuni carbs an upgrade ?
Most certainly.
HOWDY Mike,

Hi i buy a 1992 softail 1340 with 42 mm carb bike was running like a charm i didn ride yet because i rebuild the rear flasher wirer and now i start the bike and i sound wierd and make backfire if i turn idle down he will stall , before he can run very low with no stall ,, can you help me please.
@@pacificmike9501 i find a dommage wire on the timing switch maybe its the problem
Cool. I have faith, you will find it.
@@pacificmike9501 funny it can be i have one spark plug burn....
I got a stock 87 evo, i got a top end from a late model evo its a top breather, cant i just replace the banjo bolts with regular bolts?
You could.
@Pacific Mike haha, that seemed too short, i could and it will run?
I've used both late heads and early Evo cases and (high performance motor) was able to run both breather systems, which relieved a lot of pressure in the crankcase, which really made the engine much easier to seal. So basically, sure. Sorry I didn't say more.
What’s better Mikuni or CV?
The Mikuni is generally larger. The rest is up to you. (by the way, the Mikuni is also a CV).
👍
Thank You
Hey Mike, quick question, everyone has an opinion on it and I Know there's many good products out there. Oil... do you prefer traditional motor oil, primary and trans or do you like synthetics, is synthetic just a marketing thing or could there be real benefits. I'd like to know your opinion considering you're the Harley Wizard. Thanks brother.
Not cool. I don't make recommendations on oil brands. The last thing I need is a hassle over that one. All I will say at this time is that today's lubricants are better than ever. I don't wanna be involved. I apologize.
@@pacificmike9501 I completely understand, and I got the info I needed from your response, once again thank you, and thanks for the time you take for all the videos.
Thank You
Like we say in my garage.....It's starting to look like a Bike!
Yes it is. Thank You
👍🖖
Thank You
I think he put the motor in upside down and backwards. Now isn’t the V supposed to be inverted in facing the front of the bike? Ha ha Ha I can’t wait to get back on the new build
Me too.
@@pacificmike9501 I put out a video of my bike before I wrecked it and it was totaled out. If you get a minute it’s only about two minutes long go to my channel and check it out. I know somebody like you who has such an appreciation for motorcycles looking at my bike would mean a lot.
I can't find it. No bike there.
