Strawberry Fields was an orphanage and children's home in Liverpool which was right behind John Lennon' childhood home He used to climb over the fence and play with the children there. Strawberry Fields is still there now but it's more of a community centre. It's a big tourist attraction now. I've been there quite a few times being born in Liverpool
I like your way of playing the whole song right through, without talking in the middle of it, which so many reactors do. And I like your humble attitude and your curiosity. I'm gonna follow you! All best from Stockholm
I was ten years old and not into albums yet, but hearing this amongst the usual top 40 stuff on the radio was life-changing. I look forward to many more reactions to the Fab Four!
The flip side of the single Penny Lane in early 1967. The song was later placed on the Magical Mystery Tour Album in the USA which didn't come out until late 1967
Strawberry Fields was an orphanage in Liverpool. Delighted that you get The Beatles. They are the benchmark for everything else that followed. Out of the 213 released songs at least 50 or 60 of them are classics.
The "A"-side, "Penny Lane," was Paul's about his childhood, and is outer-directed. "Strawberry Fields Forever" was about John's childhood, and focused internally. It isn't "psychedelic". "Strawberry Fields" was a real place -- and they have a website. "Google search will find it. What's interesting is that despite their songs being "short" they draw on in so that they seem longer than they are.
I was a kid of 7 years when The Beatles first came to the U.S. l loved them from the first time I saw and heard them, and I still love their music and them. They have been a part of my and my siblings' lives. Thank you for doing these reactions.❤
I can tell from watching you react that you totally get it. You don't need to say a word. Innovation. Magic. Masterpiece. Yes, John had a wicked sense of humor, a take on things, and a deep affinity for psychedelic drugs. Strawberry Fields equals childhood. Yes, trippy.
Fun Fact: The recording is actually a splice of 2 takes, with the 2nd (spliced in at the last verse to the end) originally played at both a higher tempo and key, but via studio magic slowed down to match the first's tempo/key (which is why John's voice sounds deeper/stranger for the last verse). Genius production/engineering.
They invented so much new recording and editing techniques back in the 60s, a great time for pop music. Geoff Emericks book about recording the Beatles is an amazing read, full of such stories. Plus it's not only for the recording-nerd, it's all told in a very entertaining way.
As this song was recorded in December 1966, it was probably by far the most experimental piece written during that period. They may have been decades ahead of their time. I very much like your gaint strawberries vision... 🍓🍓🍓 Nevertheless, @KeefM (below) is of course right, and I only found out about it now and only through this comment. Very best wishes form Germany
I love how you love the soundtrack of my youth! I'll suggest the Abbey Road Side Two Medley, which consists of; YOU NEVER GIVE ME YOUR MONEY, SUN KING, MEAN MR. MUSTARD, POLYTHENE PAM, SHE CAME IN THRU THE BATHROOM WINDOW, GOLDEN SLUMBERS, CARRY THAT WEIGHT, THE END and (wait for it) HER MAJESTY (the hidden track) - the transitions are seamless and segue' perfectly, so listen straight thru!
Why can't bands make anything LIKE this anymore?!?! Compared to today's equipment, what they worked with, around, and in spite of... produced many wonderful and eclectic tunes, forever burned into our collective memories.
I was five in 67 didn’t take long for everybody to know all the words of this song….. I don’t know. I think life was better than along with the music.🎉😂❤
The story of how this song was recorded adds more to the Beatles and George Martin's exploration of creating recording techniques. This was 2 separate takes, one with the band and one scored with the orchestra - John liked the beginning on the one and the end of the other but they were in different musical keys, George Martin was able to change the spreed so that the 2 keys would natch and then spliced the 2 takes together. It's so cool to hear how they did it and to hear the results - once you know where the 2 come together it's fun ti listen to it.
This was very early psychedelia, it was a revelation at the time. They were constantly experimenting and pushing new boundaries. Not all of their songs are great but so many are, no one else came close.
As well as a reference to a place in Liverpool, a 'Strawberry Field' was also a form of the drug LSD, so this Lennon masterpiece has a double meaning, especially the opening lines
Pass the bong, man! As great a psychedelic classic as there was, they are in peak form here, they sure blew my mind when this came out. The best, plain and simple. More Beatles, do another classic in Tomorrow Never Knows, another trip of a song, it shocked all who heard it in 1966. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎻🎶🔥
I love the fact that you want to do all of the Beatles original songs, but you would love some of their covers too, which are fantastic! Songs like "You Really Got a Hold on Me", "Twist and Shout" and "Please Mister Postman", which are all awesome tracks. You should really just do what a lot of other reactors are doing now, and do full Beatle album reactions. If that's the case, please start with their first album (Please, Please Me) and go in chronological order until their final released album (Let it Be). Peace
oh Rere, its soo nice to see ya fallin' in love with the Beatles... they so deserve to not get forgotten. And every song opens a new chapter... they've got it all. Now this song is in my overall top-3 of theirs - so creative, mysterious and the melodies & arrangements are haunting. Strawberry Beatles Forever!! 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓
Some of their later songs had additions at the end,so let it ride out. Check out a "harder" song Helter Skelter by Paul ,Ringo murdered the drums on this and made a funny comment at the end
RND, yes, they have many, many original songs but they also have a lot of excellent cover songs, as well! Don't forget the covers they did from 1963-1965!
I love your enthusiasm for hearing their whole catalog. Now that's a true fan! 😁 And, yes ... this song is pure psychedelia ... perfectly timed to emerge alongside the famous Summer of Love (1967). Strawberry Fields was an orphanage near John's childhood home in Liverpool, and he liked to play on the grounds.
This was John Lennons childhood memory. Paul McCartneys version is "Penny Lane". I would recommend to listen to this one as next Beatles song, because they really belong together.
A lot of Beatles songs might not make a lot of sense, it would be beneficial to check out the lyrics and the story behind the songs, so much to take in but the Beatles (and others) have lots of tracks with stories behind them especially from about 1966 forward..
This was the era of alternative music. We got fed up with the crap and and started a new genre. We called it Progressive music in those Heady Days,😅😅👏👏
The very first MUSIC VIDEO was made in 1981, by THE BUGLES, Video killed the radio star". Strawberry Fields Forever was made 14 years earlier. No music videos existed in 1967.
What do you mean music videos didn’t exist in 1967? This very song, upon release also included a music video to help promote it. Paperback Writer, Hello Goosbye, Penny lane etc. were all released with an accompanying music video (look it up) The Beach Boys, The Moody blues, The Yardbirds & many other artists in the 60s also released music videos to help promote a new single. The Buggles were not the first group to make a music video. They were merely the first video to be played on the new groundbreaking platform called MTV.
Great reaction period strawberry Fields is a real place. It’s a Salvation Army orphanage.. and it was right behind John Lennon‘s home and he used to jump the fence and go over and play with the children there. He talked about it quite a bit.. the orphanage is still there…😊
When I heard this song for the first time I had no idea what it was about, but I knew instantly that I loved it. I still do. People will tell you where strawberry field is and what it was when John played there as a boy, but that doesn't matter much. John often wrote lyrics because he liked the sound of the words together and he had little time for people who dissected his lyrics to work out the (usually non-existent) hidden messages. What the song made you think of is correct. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Love experiencing your reactions to classic recordings. A Beatles song similar in intent to this is "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", also "A Day in the Life". Lennon's experimental edge combined with McCartney's magic craftsmanship is what makes each Beatles track pop off the page. And Ringp's drumming on Strawberry Fields - no one, ever anywhere, has been able to duplicate that unique groove...
A deeper meaning... yes, I agree. I believe this is the first psychedelic song or first mainstream one. I'm not sure, but the Orphanage where Lennon sold Lemon aid as a kid was called "Strawberry Field" whereas "Strawberry Fields" is in Central Park NYC where his ashes are alleged to be scattered.
Hey great reaction. I went through your playlist and I couldn’t find any NF. His music is fire. His music video HOPE is a masterpiece from start to finish. Can you make HOPE by NF one of your next reactions please. It really is epic to watch it!!!
Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane were the first songs recorded for Sgt Pepper, kind of peak psychedelia for the Beatles. Your video seems like it's in mono, and I'm used to American mixes of Beatles songs which had a lot of dramatic stereo mixing. But the Beatles mono mixes (for UK) were the main mixes and stereo were afterthoughts for a long time. I'm not sure when that changed.
You would enjoy free as a bird by the Beatles. Being from england, the video is loaded with all the special sights the boys grew up in🤘❤️. Oh yeh, your very cute😊
Strikes me a bit ironic that you so resemble Nora Jones, the daughter of Ravi Shankar who taught George Harrison how to play sitar. That's a compliment. Nora is a real beauty.
I’m glad you did the audio track and not the video. The videos can distract from the listening experience. And as you experienced a big part of the experience is painting your own pictures in your head.
the days of drug experiments...LSD....there's a place in central park in new york yoko made in honor of john after he was murdered called strawberry fields
The Beatles stated that The Beach Boys Pet Sounds album had a major influence on them and the making of their 1967 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
@@tacocanada1888 Yes you're pretty spot on because I remember watching a documentary about how the album influence the Beatles and especially Paul McCartney. They were blown away and kind of feeling impotent when they heard this masterpiece from Brian Wilson. I'm just using phrases that were in the documentary describing this. In the documentary it also said the Beatles had two albums that were influenced by that one by a Beach boys. I've never heard the record before. It was before my time and I've just not taking the moment but I definitely should. Thanks to serendipity, I'm going to go check it out on RUclips right now.
Hey.. great job. just a suggestion… Beatles album reactions are really popular…. Start with their first album and work your way through in order. It will give you tons of content and subs…. More importantly you will get to go on the journey listening as they evolved…the same way it happened for the world. lol
As an aside....ever reacted to XTC? If not, try, for example, Mayor of Simpleton....or .. Church of Women ....or Were All Light....or anything (apart from any of their 'hits'!)

I thought people don’t play the songs all the way through because of copyright issues. I don’t know how some content creators get around that?
"Living is easy with eyes closed. Misunderstanding all you see." Great lyric.
WELCOME TO THE SUMMER OF 1967 and WE LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM ALL SUMMER LONG
I was ten years old and not into albums yet, but hearing this amongst the usual top 40 stuff on the radio was life-changing. I look forward to many more reactions to the Fab Four!
The flip side of the single Penny Lane in early 1967. The song was later placed on the Magical Mystery Tour Album in the USA which didn't come out until late 1967
this song is from The Magical Mystery Tour, not the Sgt. Pepper album she displays - both from 1967.
"Strawberry Fileds Forever was ostensibly intended for the upcoming LP "Sgt. Pepper's" but was released prior, with its "A"-side "Penny Lane".
This song is a masterpiece
Strawberry Fields was an orphanage in Liverpool. Delighted that you get The Beatles. They are the benchmark for everything else that followed. Out of the 213 released songs at least 50 or 60 of them are classics.

What's interesting is that despite their songs being "short" they draw on in so that they seem longer than they are.
If you're going to listen to all 213, then start from the beginning - you'll gain an appreciation for how they transformed music.
I was a kid of 7 years when The Beatles first came to the U.S. l loved them from the first time I saw and heard them, and I still love their music and them. They have been a part of my and my siblings' lives. Thank you for doing these reactions.❤

@mrtveye6682 I think i might have read that one (20 plus years ago)....i've read a few Beatles books

If you are gonna listen to ALL TheBeatles song on your channel, Rere, you're gonna have a LOT of viewers joining in!
(Inc me...)
YES, I'll be along for the ride, too!

one of my fave Beatles songs! dbl ♥
I was five in 67 didn’t take long for everybody to know all the words of this song….. I don’t know. I think life was better than along with the music.🎉😂❤
The perfect Beatles reaction. *Song ends: - "That was so trippy...."*

How far ahead of their time was the Fab 5 including George Martin? They were playing 4 Dimensional Chess, everyone else was still playing checkers.
OMG I love it. "Fields of giant strawberries..." ❤️❤❤
She should watch the 1973 Woody Allen & Diane Keaton movie “Sleeper” if she fancies fields of giant strawberries or giant foods.
This was very early psychedelia, it was a revelation at the time. They were constantly experimenting and pushing new boundaries. Not all of their songs are great but so many are, no one else came close.

Obviously the greatest band of all time
together with pink floyd
This is the mono version. Now listen to the gorgeous stereo version.

THERE REALLY WAS A "STRAWBERRY FIELDS" A PARK IN LIVERPOOL JOHN KNEW IT WELL AS DID PAUL GEORGE AND RINGO
Typing in all caps is rude!
It wasn't a park...
Beautiful reaction!
"Eleanor Rigby" with the animation from Yellow Submarine

@elishamdgeronimo7125 technically, I think the videos you mentioned were shot on film. I think MTV videos were shot on videotape.
The vocal track was slowed down to help create that dreamy quality.
Alice in wonderland vibes down the rabbit 🐇 hole
I really enjoyed your reaction 😊

You must check out the accompanying video. It puts the song in another light.
Check out Penny Lane which was on the other side of the 45 reminiscing about Paul's childhood.
Definitely from the Psychodelic Era. Most considered this album to be their masterpiece.

Great song. Love the mellotron in the beginning. Not as good as I Am the Walrus, but still great.
John borrowed Moody Blues keyboardist Mike Pinder's mellotron for this song.
Looking forward to hearing your reactions on all 230 Beatles songs. Thank you, Rere.

Es hermoso que los jóvenes aprecien buena música
If you like english psychedelia from 1967, I recommend "Astronomy Dominé" from Pink Floyd's first album.

There are vids on YT of John’s home demos, including this one. Great choice, great reaction.
Great reaction, really enjoyed. Thanks :)
Was that really psychedelic? Yes it was!
George martin was a genius producer🤘❤️
the days of drug experiments...LSD....there's a place in central park in new york yoko made in honor of john after he was murdered called strawberry fields
You should listen to ELO "Mr blue Sky" could have been written for this album. It has been said that Jeff Lynne (ELO) should have been a Beatle.
Start with their performance on the Ed Sullivan Show 1964.
I'm a big beatles fans. I DARE YOU TO REACT TO QUEEN LIVE AT MONTREAL '81 SOMEBODY TO LOVE, I swear you gonna like it
You were saying 😂😂
Beatles experimentation with implementation of new sounds in music caused the Beach Boys to do the same pushing music forward

Please consider reacting to "Penny Lane".
Try doing a Beatles full album reaction. UK release please. 😁
Please try paper back writer
it's not just you... lol very psychedelic
You are so lucky you *didn't* go straight to the "video", which has ruined the first listen experience for many a reactor to this masterpiece.
I buried Paul
No, it's just you l o l of course, it was psychedelic
Beautiful woman... don't see ya much😢
“I buried Paul”. Listen at the very end.
He actually said Cranberry Sauce, you dunce.
I buried Flanders !!!!
I don't care for this mix.
