God, so many memories. I was 12 years old and had just joined my first Golf Club (with my first half set of Wilson clubs) on this Sunday... Recorded the final day on my dad's Betamax video recorder (lol.. remember those?). It was also my mum's (R.I.P.) birthday.
When I was young I would hit golf balls over the school field and pretend to be Nick Faldo when the caretaker chased me I pretend to be Linford Christie
He won 2 British Opens because 2 Americans choked on 17 and 18 behind him at the same course! Make that 2 Masters as well. Golf was spectacularly solid under stress after changing his swing
He wore that yellow sweater twenty eight years later on the 18th at St Andrews, his final appearance at The Open. The golf museum there had it on display
@ not so much luck but it seems those guys just didn’t perform under pressure and Faldo did Faldo was a perfectionist probably hit 1000 balls a day and worked on his swing every day
I always wondered why Harry Carpenter was introducing the golf back in the day. Did he want the golfers to settle things the old fashioned way I used to ask myself - golf gloves off.
It was when when Stewart was playing the Asian & Australasian tours in the early ‘80s that he noticed Davis (& a couple of others) wearing plus twos. That’s where Stewart got it from.

If the Japanese did a comedy sketch of two English people, dressed in top hats and saying "What ho! Spiffing morning, old chap - what what!"..... Would you find that offensive? Of course you wouldn't.
great memories i was 22 in the blue coat at 27.37 holding the rail facing faldo.thankyou for uploading this. john h

Nick Faldo’s golf swing is enviable, for sure. He had a great mind and was impervious to pressure.

Faldo's swing was way better than most in those days.
Can't say the same for his taste in sweaters.
Tyler Jane Bronson .... So you’ve not noticed some of the sh8te that’s worn these days then??
Still better than Nick’s sweaters back then!
this is class, great upload!
Awesome theme tune🤞🇬🇧
RIP Peter Alliss.
31:13 Note where Azinger is aiming. Right where he hit it.
No you just don't understand what he was trying to do.
@Vitte4: He was clearly trying to hit a cut shot.
@@justbreakingballs Yes, the cut shot he might have been attempting didn't turn out well.

Pringle cashmere sweaters were cool back than.
still in , get wit programme
Surely they never went away ! 🤪
@@marksimpson2321 Yes but now they are made in China and pure garbage IMHO.
Pringle cashmere jumpers were cool on the football terraces as well
God bless Payne Stewart
You're too late. He's been dead for twenty years.
God let his plane crash.
@@numbernine8571 I remember! I think it lost pressure and everyone suffocated on board. Such a tragedy
I love Faldos jumpers
Thank you for the great upload! Do you have any more footage of Faldo's glory years? All the best

Ian Botham smoking a joint at 16:50, along with some dodgy commentary :D
Zinger really gave this one away
Faldo was the beneficiary of a lot of good luck in the majors - Azinger, Hoch, Floyd, Cook.
What would Norman have given for some of Faldo's luck?!!

Also, RIP Payne Stewart. What a terrible tragedy his loss was. Great character and superb player.
Did Rodger Davis give Payne Stuart some style counselling ?

Why don't they play The Open in the UK summer?
Derek Johnston ... Why make it easy for them??😉😉
Well it was held 16-19 July...I think that’s the summer
@@garyroberts3859It was a joke mate.
@@derekjohnston9930 the British summer begins on the 30th June and ends on the 1st of July.
@@ds1868 I'm from Scotland.... what's summer again? Think we had that one year, it was a Tuesday if I remember correctly.
Wow, both Azimger and Payne Stewart died on equally tragic, albeit completely different circumstances. Both great players. RIP BOTH PF YOU!
Paul Azinger isn’t dead.
Yes, Paul will be sad to hear he is dead.

If Tiger was alive in 1987 he would destroyed these golfers, no doubt about it
Erm, he was alive in 1987.
Someone needs to tell Azinger that you’ll never be considered a great if you’ve not won on the European tour.
A Wiganer .... Very well put sir👍🏻🤣
Well said fellow wiganer!
Azinger should tell anyone who's never won a major that they'll never be considered a great.
Little did Azinger know here he had cancer in his shoulder that almost took his life two years later
His cancer didn’t appear until 1993. This is 1987.
