    I am Night taxi driver I've been a night driver for 23 (plus 3 years as a day driver 26 years total) years I've seen a lot in that time. A dual dash cam is perfect to stop accusations. So getting one that works well inside the cab in the darkest of places, when I'm out in the country really matters. I tried a cheaper dual dash which was reviewed on here, BEFORE I'd found "Techmoan" it was absolutely useless! Then when I found this site. Because of this Techmoan review I bought the Transcend drivepro 520 the cab I drive is not mine so the ability to take it out and put it in my car for my personal use was also a big consideration I have used the cam for nearly a year I have no complaints and would recommend for any taxi driver night or day as far as the law is concerned here in the UK you must display clearly an old box brownie type of camera (the same kind as you see on the road for speed cameras) with wording telling people they are being filmed much like the CCTV signs taxi drivers usually put stickers on the rear bumper and on the inside of rear door windows and on the Dash. it's not a perfect night view and like the review says a little more infra red light would be great ..but nothing is perfect and with its recorded sound as well as the picture there's enough to stop you being wrongly accused of something.
    because as taxi drivers know when something has supposedly happened in the cab, public opinion is always with the "innocent " punter.
    I now feel naked without my dual dash cam in my cab.
    so I'd like to thank "Techmoan" for the honest review. I have video that shows how well this cam performs I can post if you'd like?

    After watching this video I purchased 1 of these. After 4 weeks I had to return it as it was faulty because it wouldn't record if LCD screen was set to turn off after 1 minute. The 2nd device lasted 4 weeks too, it failed to record again after attempting to download a file so again I returned it but this time for a full refund as I'd run out of patience withe 520. There are other flaws too, without exaggerating it can take up to and over 20 attempts to download a 1 minute file as often enough you are met with an annoying pop up saying 'download failed'. Also the new app is hopeless on an iPad because orientation is all over the place leaving you twisting and turning your iPad around for different settings. The Drivepro 200 is a much more stable device and will be sticking with that now. Was I unlucky, I doubt it but my advice is if you're going to buy one of these then don't lose your receipt and keep it the full 12 months because it's unlikely the 520 will last that long.

    (1:25) This is not intentionally, it is just cheaper! There is no IR-cut filter which keeps the disturbing infrared light out of the image sensor during the day. When the light falls below a certain level, in contrast, the filter automatically swivels out of the way so that the infrared light does hit the image sensor.

    I've been researching dash cams and came across your channel. Thanks for these great reviews. Do you plan to add this camera to your list of "Best Dash Cams Tested"? I like the idea of being able to record the road with the main cam and have a camera turned to driver side window in case I get pulled over.

    I very munch enjoy watching your reviews on dashcams. I have an 18 year old daughter that has been in 2 accidents, and a soon to be driving 15 year old son. So, I'm considering adding dashcams for various reasons.
    My question is, have you ever tested the apps for android phones that recreate the dashcam functionality? The reason this is interesting to me is that I have several left over android phones, from previous upgrades, that are sitting in a drawer and would be perfect for the job... assuming that it they work well enough.
    Your thoughts and reviews are always appreciated. Please keep up the good work.
    Tony from Texas.

      +Tony Perkins I only test hardware. As most apps are cheap or free so its very easy for people to try them out personally. I've never tried any of the apps myself, perhaps there are reviews on the app stores.

  • @prestonrenify

    Thanks for this review. Nice unit overall. My son and a friend drive for Uber. Will refer this to them. Manufacturer would be wise to take your advice icw the IR & night vision limitations inside the vehicle. I think unit should be considerably smaller. If the unit is to be used by taxi, limo or Uber drivers, a less conspicuous unit would be better much better. Would be useful to review clips of the rear camera view inside your vehicle at night, both with and without outside light shining into the vehicle.
    Two questions: Can Wi-Fi feature your demo’d be used to record or DL real time video & audio to a remote storage unit hidden in a vehicle? I too am concerned about possible altercations with police, traffic control or even squeegee people. If there is an serious altercation, my concern is that PD or taxi passengers would probably try to confiscate and destroy the camera. Second question is that the LS1 I see peering out your rear windshield? Thanks again.

I'd like to hardwire this to my car and have it also running in parking mode but worried it'll allow the car battery to completely drain when parked for long periods.

    Good day. I have been watching your reviews for a few years now and I applaud you for such a good precise and clear job that you do. Looking at some of the questions you seem to get, I have to wonder if some of these people are really seeking a NSA Satellite Camera quality system.
    Anyways.... Watching this camera review and the issues you mention about the darkening while driving towards the sunlight, I wish to ask you for your opinion on a theory of mine.
    I drive a mid sized (North American) van/suv. Between the driver and passenger seats and as far back from the windshield at the drivers center head area is an interior light. I was considering removing the light and customizing a base to remount the light and also mount a car twin camera. I could go two separate cams with one in the rear door window but also considering a self contained twin cam unit.
    Since the cam would be out of the direct sunlight, would the video quality remain clear and constant? Will it be continuously a bit darker? or even still keep changing to dark and light depending driving to or from the sun?
    Last, I like the the button to latch in the optional five minutes of video. However, I don't like the fact that you have to reach up (particularly in an emergency situation) to press the button. It would be ideal for me and i'm sure for many others to have a remote button very close to the steering wheel that can be operated without looking or fumbling around. A simple port/jack connection for a remote switch would be ideal!!
    Look forward to hearing back. Cheers

    • @TheGodOfAllThatWas
      @TheGodOfAllThatWas 6 лет назад

      It's been a bit... Not sure if this is helpful to you... Or if you have to hear it from Techmoan himself.... But here's my 2Cents.... The Dome idea you have probably won't work.... The reason the camera (or most cameras in general) have problems with the sunlight is it can't figure out what part of the image is the "subject" and what part is "unwanted" It figures the bright area is the "subject" really it's the sun and really unhelpful to autofocus on the sun....
      Putting the camera where your dome light is will just make it always have this problem basically. The inside of the car will be kinda shady (in comparison to the outside) and outside will be a bright shot of outside... Take a look out the windows at 8:45 in... It's clear if you were in the car looking out the windows you'd see something.... but in the video it's a bright over exposed mess... The other taxi cam vid he has ( ruclips.net/video/eGt9yiHMJqU/видео.html ) also has video from inside the car, it's a much worse camera, and the problem is bigger, the windows just look White, you can also try it with your cell phone, it'll probably be similar...
      To shoot out a window you'll have to be next to the window... Moving to the dome MIGHT help with the night time video of the PASSENGERS in the back seat, since the night "Vision" is based on the distance from the camera as has been shown in this video, but it won't help with shooting into the sunlight..... also remember that the front camera doesn't have night vision, so at night from the dome, the front camera will be mostly useless.
      As for the emergency button, if you don't care about warranties it TECHNICALLY should be possible for someone to wire up an extension cable to a button.... but there are cameras that have the button remotely already, so you're probably best off looking at one of those.... The DDPai one that's discontinued had a remote (looked wireless!) button ruclips.net/video/7OPrYBWCAYc/видео.html and the k1s which turned out to be unreliable also had (looked wired) a remote button....
      Bottom line: Dome idea might be good if you care more about interior video then exterior, but will make camera useless for exterior shots....remote button... You have a point, they make cameras with remote buttons that are more useful then others.

      Techmoan Capacitor, that is the word I was looking for.

      +Walking Zed's Push Bike I didn't understand that's what you were looking for. Well the best I can think of is looking at the specs in the advert and see if it mentions any battery life...or looking for a review. It's often not clear with no-brand devices.

    Hi I noticed the video is couple years old. Stumbled upon yourself whilst looking for a camera as a taxi driver. Would like to know if this is the best out there still for a taxi driver needs or do you know of any other devices which are up there on the market today? Struggling to find one.

    Wow, youtube really compressed the hell out of the high contrast scenes. I think the situations where the auto exposure darkens the image makes this camera pretty useless.

    Which do you think is better? This one (Transcend Drivepro 520) or the Next base Duo. Thanks in advance :)

    • @RoadRunner-yu8cu

      from what i just researched, the Next Base Duo does not record inside the car, it has a 50x zoom lense so it records the traffic behind you...utterly pointless

    You probably get asked this in every camera review but here goes, in this price range is this the best you have reviewed so far?
    For £150 or less is there one with 1080p Front camera, works well at night and is quite small and inconspicuous?

    • @Techmoan

      +Firecul42 There are quite a few good cameras to choose from - but small and good is hard to come by- have a look at this list www.techmoan.com/what-is-the-best-dashcam/

    Really rather well put together this review, looks like you're making scripts for these videos, although that's seemed to be the case for a long time now.

    Someone needs to make a car unit that is small, has two cameras and lets you set options and view the video from your phone to make it as small as it can be. Also note that in many places in the USA it is illegal to record the police. Personally I think you should be able to, but...

    • @jeffc6411
      @jeffc6411 8 лет назад +1

      Not really true in most places.
      Most states have one party aware recording (other parties need not be made aware of being recorded)
      You need to research for where you live and where you go.
      In public you and they have no right to expect privacy.
      What is illegal is interfering with the police.
      So really what the police do is intimidate people into not recording them.

    • @10p6
      @10p6 8 лет назад

      That is partially true, but recording laws are constantly changing, and usually not in the public's interest.

    • @theblackfish506
      @theblackfish506 6 лет назад

      You absolutely can record in public places without permission. Period. Well I should say other than up dresses and such, which is a different law. But your car is arguably your private property, so arguably you can do what you want. Rather obviously. Look up the laws in your state, but don't spout off your hunches promoting giving up my rights, thank you.

    Taxi drivers want to video inside the cab for safety - during the day, the cam is obvious. At night, the IR lights make it obvious.So, anyone wishing to have a go at the driver 'might' want to grab the cam & rip it out!I would've thought it would be better to go for something with a remote lens (K1 or K1S) and add some IR lighting into all the car's interior lights.

    As a taxi driver I'm looking at cameras for my cab.
    Unfortunately it's almost impossible to find one that meets my council's requirements. 1) No microphone, at all, not even an option to disable it. 2) encrypted footage so that only the police or council officers can access it.
    Needless to say I haven't found one yet. Very frustrating.

    • @SeanHoulihane
      @SeanHoulihane 8 лет назад

      +Tom Dyer Encrypted footage, which you can't access yourself, is complicated from a practical point of view. Someone needs to be responsible for holding the keys (passwords) for the encryption, in a way that you can't extract from the camera. In practice, the only way to achieve this is to sell a 'whole system' type of solution (and even then it might not really be secure)
