**DISCLAIMER**: Please do NOT use the fire cabinet like I did in this video. You could very easily be caught if you are playing/tampering with the fire cabinet in ANY elevator, and it could end in a very bad situation. For the record, I did NOT use elevator keys. These cabinets were already open, and I didn't even bring elevator keys to NYC. I will NOT be held responsible for your actions.
I don't even think I need to say the significance of these elevators, but I'm going to anyway. The Marriott Marquis Hotel located at the heart of Times Square in New York City is very significant to us elevator enthusiasts. This building houses the first ever destination dispatch installation in the world: Schindler Miconic 10 elevators! That's right, Schindler invented destination dispatch with the Miconic 10 system, and their first install was here. These elevators used to be Westinghouse, and they needed this system BADLY. The wait times without the Miconic were stupidly long, and the hotel received nothing but complaints. The Miconic was a huge success since it helped boost the capacity of the whole system, but it also showed the potentials of what destination dispatch has to offer! Destination dispatch has now been used by countless elevator companies, and it is helping to improve the efficiency of elevators everyday!
As many of you have probably heard, the hotel decided. to have Schindler upgrade the entire system to PORT in 2019. While this was a shame, the system definitely needed it. This system had many glitches and weird problems. For example, when you would put a call in on handicapped mode for a high rise car, it would always call cars A or B, regardless if another car was close to the floor. With the PORT, the system now calls any of the high rise cars. Furthermore, with the Miconic 10, if you put a call in without handicapped mode, it would call a random car. However, if you then put a call in for that same floor with handicapped mode, it would call a different car!! The PORT fixed this as well as many other issues, and these are running better than they ever did before.
I rode these when they were Miconic 10, and I must say, they truly aren't the same anymore. While they are still very fun to ride, there is nothing like the classic "Michronic 10" system, especially the first one ever! Another downside to the PORT modernization is that the hotel decided to keycard the elevators above 8! This meant that if you wanted to ride these above 8, you couldn't unless you were staying here! (Well, you can ride to the view on 48, but that's during limited hours, and it's constantly busy). I didn't realize until after that you can keep riding without a card if you stay above 8, but then you don't get the full ride. My original plan was to ride along with other people and then ride back down, but then a thought popped into my head. I saw other videos of these elevators where people had noticed the fire cabinet was open. Inside of said fire cabinet were floor buttons for each floor that each car served. It wasn't that I got onto car D that I noticed it was open just enough for me to stick my hand in and hit the floor button! Before you ask, NO I did NOT use keys. The cabinets were already open, plus I didn't bring any keys to NYC. I was riding when I noticed afterward that the cabinet on car G was open as well! This allowed me to get a rare trip up to the secret 49th floor, which is extremely hard nowadays with the PORT! I don't think there has been a video of anyone up there for years, so that was awesome to see!
So to sum it up, these are some awesome elevators. The views, speed, and the overall efficiency these have is just stunning. I am glad to see these are still holding up well. It's just a shame they're so hard to ride now! RIP Miconic 10!

Alright. So I just stayed at this hotel and I have some updates regarding these elevators
    1. All the cars are in the process of getting their door operators changed out. Car D and a few others on the High Rise bank are done, and F is out of service for this reason right now. It has improved the efficiency and performance of these elevators since the change has started. I spoke to the schindler technician about this and this is what they are trying to accomplish.
    2. The fire cabinets are locked throughout the bank with the exceptions being D, and L. So you can no longer go to 49. But you can go to the View if you come between the hours of 5 PM and midnight. Because of how pricey the view is now, it really isn’t that crowded in the elevator lobby, and it is pretty easy to ride to 48 without a problem.
    3. One thing I noticed was that level 16 and 43 were both unlocked for a certain amount of time. The hotel was packed with like 5 or 6 conventions happening at once. So, my recommendation is if you come here to film is to try these two levels and you might get lucky and they will be unlocked.
    4. There will hopefully be changes coming to the Handicapped mode on these elevators. I suggested to the techs that I think it would benefit if it goes group by group like 40-45 then 30-39. Instead of each individual floor and I was told they will try to accomplish this.
Anyways these are some amazing elevators and I can’t wait to see what they have done

Guys I think the hotel watches these videos and I hate to say this but the hotel has something up against the community because of actions like going to staff floors like 49, the second floor, the basement and entering the machine room. The keypad panel to access floor 49 was changed to 55 because people were going there, then it was changed to 53. In 2019 I stayed here and went up to 49 but you would put in 53 to access that floor. Then in 2021 I was the first person to film these after they were key carded and I was here a couple weeks after a user entered the machine room and they weren’t key carded in their video. I predict the Fire Panels are going to be permanently locked soon. These bad actions are causing the hotel to do more stuff. I suggest please only film here if you’re staying here or eating at The View. And don't go to 49 or use the Fire Panel. I'm afraid of this place and I don't think I'll come back here again.

Actually, they were keycarded before he went into the machine room. Also, multiple people have entered the machine room, service elevators, used final panels, etc and nothing really happened. Only reason Marriott key-carded these for some time was because they were doing renovations and there was a lot of crime in the city at that point

Just so you know this was not the first building to utilize destination dispatch..
The first building to use that was in Hamburg Germany, and that was in the early 90s.
Also the second most famous Miconic 10 install was in Fort Lauderdale in 2002.
From what I’ve read, the service elevators here got the miconic10 treatment BEFORE the 16 passenger elevators, those were completed in 2004. And the 16 passenger elevators in 2005.

The guest floors may be smart keyed in the port panels, so I wonder if someone can film these in 2023 and show what’s on the port panels to see if they are smart keyed? Because if it still shows the floors, it would say to present card, but if I present the card, it would just say “no access”!

These are not the first destination dispatch installs. The first may have been in Europe or Asia rather than North America, but not sure. As far as I know, there are/were some Miconic 10 installs from around 1999 in the United States, which would likely be among the first destination dispatch installs in the US.
I think I had heard this mod was done c. 2006?
This may however be the first HOTEL in the US, or maybe the world, but not sure, to have destination dispatch.
