  • On this episode of Tony's Spot on Fishing, Tony takes you on the lake that's responsible for Tony's addiction to the sport of fishing, Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. He shows you how he fishes the gin clear water, and backs up his tips, tricks and techniques with the 30 years of experience fishing this lake. That's all this week on Tony's Spot on Fishing.

    This will be my first summer fishing at Geneva, I only have access to the Glenwood springs municipal pier near Fontana and I have no clue on the depth or what lures to use. I would love to catch some smallies and maybe some walleye! Thanks

      Sorry for the late reply on this one. Somehow we missed it when it first came in. Being on the pier it’ll be shallower water with some weed growth. Spinnerbaits and Chatterbaits would work well for the Bass and even some topwaters on cloudy days or low light periods in the morning and evening and overnight. It’s not impossible to catch a Walleye there, chances would increase overnight for them to move shallower. Baits like a Rapala Husky Jerk would be an option to try for the Walleyes from the pier.

    Great job! How about some northern pike fishing in Chicago area?

    • @tonysspotonfishing
      @tonysspotonfishing  6 лет назад +1

      Artur Tusinski There are a couple options. The DesPlaines river on the North side has quite a few Pike. Especially the Lemont area. Also Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville has a decent Pike population. Just over the boarder into Wisconsin, Silver Lake and Lake Geneva have great Pike populations. The Fox Chain and the Fox River does have Pike but by no means are they in great numbers. The Muskies definitely outnumber them there. Thanks for watching, we appreciate it!

    So you launched at Williams Bay public launch? Fee in the $20-$25 range? What launches would suggest for guys launching fishing boats. Having alternate launches would help to reduce long boat runs on a lake 7 miles long. Gorgeous lake that looks like it could take a decade to learn spots to fish. Any help with launches and things to search for to locate fish would be appreciated.

      Ken Tyler There really is no bad water on Geneva. All of Williams Bay is great. The flats, the break lines and the main lake points on either side of the bay hold fish. Directly across from Williams Bay is Black Point and Rainbow Point, always a good spot if you like fishing football heads and drop shot rigs. To the west is Fontana Bay. While we’ve caught our fair share of Bass in Fontana, it always seems to produce the most Pike as well. Heading east towards Geneva Bay is the flats just on the other side of the narrows. It’s probably the most fished area of Lake Geneva but it holds fish, no doubt. Buttons Bay, both the flats and the break lines are great, especially if the wind is blowing into it. Maytag Point always has fish on it. Deep cranks and drop shot rigs will catch them. All of Geneva Bay is awesome water. Great vegetation and break lines. While it sounds like I’m glossing over your question, please know that it’s the honest truth that Lake Geneva is by no means a hard lake to fish. The only time you’ll ever see me grab a Finesse presentation like a drop shot rig or Carolina rig is when we are in a cold front situation. Moving baits always get the job done out there. Put the trolling motor down and cover water and just catch them. Spinnerbaits, Squarebills, Fat A’s, Fat Free Shads, and on occasion a Zara Spook, is a you need out there.
      As far as launches go, in 30 years of fishing Geneva I’ve only launched at Geneva Bay and Williams Bay. The issue with Geneva bay is the trailer parking is across the street from the ramp. Pretty big pain having to run across the street to get your vehicle. Hence why I’ve always used Williams Bay. Nice ramps and plenty of parking at the ramp area.

    Hi Tony. Great informative videos! Small mouth are the big thing in spring at LG. I've never had any luck. Can you offer the best month of SM fishing and best baits? I've caught 2 SM my whole life at LG.

      Well, honestly, it’s really good all year long. From open to close on the season. In the spring we find them on shallow and secondary flats. Both hard and soft plastic jerkbaits do well. We’ve also caught them pretty good on squarebills then. As the water warms and they start to move out deeper, focus on main lake points. My favorites are the two points of Williams Bay, Rainbow Point and of course my ultimate favorite, Maytag Point. Drop Shot rigs, Carolina rigs, and finesse jigs all produce very well. Those points will hold them all summer long, through the early fall then we can follow them up again to that secondary flat and that jerkbait and squarebill bite returns. Good luck out there this season. Let us know how you do. Thanks for watching! We appreciate it!

    Great vid again guys. Is this a good place to bring the kayak n fish? I'm a newbie so dont wanna go where it's too busy. Was thinking going on a weekday

      bravo11x Thanks so much for the compliment and thank you for watching! If you were to take the kayak out to Geneva, I would plan on getting on the water at sunrise and plan on getting off the water around 10am or 11am. There are quite a few larger power boats that throw some pretty big wakes out there. If you pick your days and there’s some rain in the forecast that keeps a lot of the pleasure boaters indoors. Weekdays are better then weekends but even in the summer it can get a little rough to be in the yak out there. It’s some big water. 7 miles long and 1 mile wide, at its widest part. East and West winds can get some rollers going out there too. As long as you’re careful about the time of day and the weather, I feel you could put the kayak out there.

      Spot on Fishing thanks for the advice. Yea I've been out a handful of times, and just recently built some outriggers for it. So will make it out as early as I can on Wednesday. Is the lake open before sunrise? Thanks again for replying so quickly all the time. Much appreciated

    Any good places to fish from the shore? I just moved to the area!

    • @tonysspotonfishing
      @tonysspotonfishing  6 лет назад +1

      Kevin Camp No, there is really no shore fishing access on Lake Geneva. The entire lake shorelines are homes, so to access the lake you’d be crossing private property. There is Municipal Pier in Williams Bay. It’s a small dock that you could fish off of, but it is a very small pier. For Geneva you would need a boat to fish it. Or a kayak could be used early in the morning before the power boats, water skiers and jet skiers come out. The boat traffic on Geneva can get pretty rough, so if using a kayak be careful out there. Thanks so much for watching. We appreciate it.

    Hey man!! Me and a couple of buddies plan on fishing Geneva during the spawn, any suggestions for bait or where to fish? And also what do you mean by break lines? Thank you!

    • @tonysspotonfishing
      @tonysspotonfishing  6 лет назад +1

      Zach Harris There are two spawning areas the Bass utilize on Geneva. The main flats and the secondary deeper flats. The main flat spawners are easier to see, being shallow and can site fish them. Flipping craws or creature style baits will catch them early in the spawning season. After they’ve been bombarded by Anglers, we usually have to switch to a Finesse Worm or a whacky worm. Those fish that spawn on the deeper, secondary flats, usually can’t be seen. Most often that is where the 4-6 pound and up, Bass will spawn. Carolina rigs on those deeper flats with a lizard is dynamite. Also break lines are your sharp contour lines as the lake bed drops off to deeper water adjacent to the flats. Thanks so much for watching and thanks for the comment. Good luck on Geneva. It is for sure our favorite lake to fish.
