Who are the unsung Heroes of the Tamiya Art Department? That Panzer IV art looks beautiful as always. In my opinion the Tamiya 88m gun box is still the absolute coolest box art ever. l remember buying it in 1982 and being blown away by the incredible technique of the Artist. Tamiya Military Miniatures Box art is surely the best in the Market,l wish these stunning Tamiya Artists got their own Taschen Coffee table book, they deserve it.

If anyone is going to judge and I know many will, let them. I mean people get hostile for suggesting floor polish as a gloss coat. Who are they to tell others what to do or not to do. Nope, Ausf.F2 was a temporary name when they had the long and short barreled Ausf.F in production. Later they renamed all long gunned Pz IV to Ausf.G, so all existing F2 became G at this point.
Introduction of the L/48 gun replacing the L/43 has nothing to do with it.

    • @_--JohnVK--_
      @_--JohnVK--_ 3 года назад +1

Although I love Tamiya kits, I must agree that their price is getting to a degree where they are much less "value for money". Especially compared to the competition, whom are manufacturing kits of the absolute highest possible quality, using current technology, with all kinds of goodies included to raise detail levels even further, at lower prices. Tamiya seems to want to compete with Dragon over who will be able to sell the most expensive kits to date?
And please don't give me all that nonsense about increased cost of manufacturing, plastic price increases, tooling more expensive, etc. etc. Because NONE of that is true. I am in manufacturing myself and I know that those costs haven't increased all that much at all. In fact, some processes have even become cheaper (and those savings will NEVER be used to benefit customers price or value wise). Also, if it were true, how come it is ONLY affecting SOME manufacturers ;-) Impossible. It's simply more corporate greed, brought to you by their investors, major shareholders and/or boards.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who will continue to pay those prices without even blinking. Enough of them to convince them, f.i., Tamiya and Dragon, they are nowhere near the limit of what customers are willing to pay for their kits. So, in the end, it's our own fault... Vote with your wallet. That's the only way.

      @@DavidSmith-ss1cg Yes, absolutely. I agree.
Indeed you can see that kits are getting sold a lot more in all of the online webshops. It's both a blessing for the hobby in general and a curse if you are a modeller ;-) Haha! Because a lot of kits, tools and accessories sell out rather quickly these days, or, are unavailable due to low stocks at the manufacturers (which is also partly due to pandemic workforce restrictions in the factories, unfortunately).
But, I think it's still a good thing that more people are getting involved in scale modelling. It moves the hobby forward. Right?
And, oh yes! It is absolutely awesome seeing all those miniature tanks lined up! Couldn't agree more!
I wish we could start visiting model shows again! I really miss it! But, as you say, the available videos are pretty cool too! :-)

I really cannot see the difference with these and the ones they released in the 90s apart from the tracks?

      Hi Jonathan,
There's actually a HUGE difference, but you won't be able to see it unless you put the two kits next to each other, because it is in the details.
Things like hinges, screw heads (f.i., on the turret roof), weld seams, tools, and just general sharpness and accuracy. You wouldn't believe how much of an improvement the F1 and F2 are over the old Ausf.D (and their other old Panzer IV ausführungen), if you could see the parts up close.
It is really hard to see in a video, shot from a relatively large distance. Even in the close ups, the video quality is not good enough to show the actual intricate detail.
      Cheers,
      John

@@_--JohnVK--_ I said the 90s ones mate not the 70s ones. I’ve built many Panzer IVs and yeah it might be a slight improvement but with Border and Miniarts new Panzer IV releases Tamiya is now way to far behind. I hope you enjoy it but I think I’ll get Miniarts one mate.

@@Jonhistorymodel None of those you mentioned were released in the 90's, though. Only some reeeeeally old Dragon Panzer IV's (Shanghai kits), Zvezda, Italeri, Academy and Tamiya. That's about it. Compared to any of the 90's kits, which is what you said, this Tamiya is MILES better.
And I didn't actually say I was going to buy this (or any) Tamiya kit at the moment, did I? As you can read in another post in this comment section, I also think they (Tamiya) are way overpriced and have have much less value for money compared to other manufacturers. So, yeah.
I too have built many, many PZ.IV's and have many more in my ever growing stash. Not sure what that's worth, but..?
But sure. You can decide whatever you want, of course. It's obviously your own choice :-)

No sawstika because it is offensive. But a model of a tank built by slave labour under a genocidal regime to prosecute a genocidal war, muh, no probs.
Great video again, Andy 👍 the old 70s F was the first Tamiya tank kit I built way back. These new kits look outstanding, certainly too good for me😂

Amazon UK have been opening the boxes and cutting off the swastika's from decal sheets - I got a Tamiya kit that had been vandalised in this way, so returned it for a refund. You're right, it's just a joke to be frank about it.

And the poly caps are there for what reason exactly !!??, not that i care that much by why the unneeded expense, i care more that they’re finally stopped with those god awful rubber band tracks, if it was made as a toy i’d understand but it’s advertised as a model, as usual it’s a company trying to corner two markets, toy & model and in doing so they failed at both, with the proof being that they’ve ‘finally’ gave the idea up, took them long enough though, imagine it’s all the up & coming newbies that are surpassing them even in the cheap kit end of market, like Border, Mini Art, etc, it’s about time Tamiya stopped resting on their laurels, they again were surpassed ling ago, i’ll assume new long needed leadership has came to pass at Tamiya, as old bosses who refuse to retire or just see past themselves can eventually end a company if they’re not careful, look at Airfix for a good example, they in fact came to the brink and were only saved thanks to their once good brand name ‘and only the name’ saved them, it was actually that refusal to not stop pushing on with 1/32 in all things that nearly ended them, i’m sure someone tried to warn them at some point but as usual it goes unheeded with older generation certain know it all’s until it’s either near or indeed far too late, it’s a pit fall of getting old that we refuse to accept new idea’s as easily.

Geez, it looks like Tamiya can't seem to come up with more diverse model ideas. Another tank, different version. It's like SSDD, I think most folks know what that means. Maybe Tamiya's tank models should be known as STDV, SameTankDifferentVersion, ha ha. That's one way of saving corporate money. Hey Jim look at my tank models, but Joe they're the same, just different paint schemes. I hope Andy's not gonna make another 30+ minutes of a building vid. What would be cool, is if he's take some of his builds and blow them up with firecrackers, ha ha.
