    Sony F35 also has Fujinon labeled components- it is for the lens data or zoom rocker/focus motor/iris motor system, it's not connected to the imager in any way. Cool exploring and it doesn't mean it isn't a great camera.

    how does this compare to the f5 and f55?
    i believe the f5 shares sensor with the f3 but with upgraded internals and the f55 has the same internals as the f5 but with the sensor of the f65

    • @Nostalgia_Nexus
      @Nostalgia_Nexus  Год назад

      Unfortunately, I can't say much about that since I've never used the F5 and F55. I believe I once read that the F5 shares the sensor with the FS7. However, the update from F3 to F5 seems to be a significant improvement. In my opinion, both the F5 and F55 are really nice cameras.

    5:10 do they allow you to record 4:4:4? I want to buy the version with the upgrade

    • @Nostalgia_Nexus
      @Nostalgia_Nexus  Год назад

      No, unfortunately the recorders can only write 4:2:2. For 4:4:4 you will need the Convergent Design Oddyssey 7Q+ for example.

    • @danieIlondon
      @danieIlondon Год назад +1

      @@Nostalgia_Nexus I heard PIX E5 is the best budget option! Everyone recommends using 4:4:4 as even the sharpness increases! Although it’s not true 4:4:4.The F3 has 3.36 effective megapixels. That means a maximum luma resolution of about 2440 x1372. Assuming a traditional bayer array, you have 64% of the spatial chroma information needed for true 4:4:4.

    • @katlis
      @katlis Год назад

      @@danieIlondon I used to use a PIX E5 with my old F35, but switched to a Gemini 444 recorder + AJA LUT-Box. I believe it would work with the F3 too.

    which would be better for shortfilms Sony pmw f3 or fs700?

    • @Nostalgia_Nexus
      @Nostalgia_Nexus  9 месяцев назад +1

      I own both cameras. The FS700R was my first cinema camera and still has impressive slow-motion capabilities, for example, 4k at 120fps in 4-second time windows. The requirement is an external recorder like the Atomos Shogun Inferno. On the other hand, the F3 produces a nicer image. I would say the FS700R is a good camera for commercials, and the F3 for short films.

    • @itaku
      @itaku 2 дня назад

      They had both looks selling at the same time lol, certain models were meant to match film while others were venturing into their current look. The FS and NEX series have a very similar look to their current mirrorless lines.

    Hey man! Great video. I have come across an F3 for a steal. It doesn’t have the 4:4:4 update, which doesn’t bother me too much. But is it possible to get the Slog 10bit 4:2:2 update somehow online? Or is this already a feature within the camera that is unlocked with an external recorder? Thank you!

    • @Nostalgia_Nexus
      @Nostalgia_Nexus  Год назад +1

      Hey there. Thank you. The firmware version 1.4 for the PMW-F3 includes S-Log as a selectable gamma curve within the picture profiles, but this update only supports 4:2:2 output, not 4:4:4.
      If you have this firmware version, your F3 can output S-Log 4:2:2 over SDI. 🙂

    • @joshuahartwell9224

      @@Nostalgia_Nexus Thank you so much! I have found a Sony F3 with the firmware 1.4 but it has a broken (non-existent) viewfinder. Do you know if that's an easily replaceable component these days? I'd be pairing it with an external recorder/monitor anyway, so I suppose it isn't the end of the world. It's about $600 USD max...What do you think?

    • @Nostalgia_Nexus
      @Nostalgia_Nexus  Год назад

      @@joshuahartwell9224 I'm not sure if you can really replace the viewfinder. It might be hard to find. However, I bought my F3 for a similar price and also with a broken viewfinder. I have never missed it. So, for me, there would be nothing against it 🙂 If you decide to buy the F3, I wish you a lot of fun with the camera.

    Just getting into videography. I just picked up a low hour F3 and man I am in love. Question about the optical port in front of the ND filters and sensor, is that just glass? Can I use a lens pen polishing tip to clean?

    • @Nostalgia_Nexus
      @Nostalgia_Nexus  Год назад +1

      That's great, have fun with the F3. There is a protective filter in front of the ND filters and the sensor. This can be cleaned carefully.

    What does it look like without the great color grade?

    • @Nostalgia_Nexus
      @Nostalgia_Nexus  9 месяцев назад

      @jalexanderevans The entire video material was shot in S-LOG. Without color correction and the corresponding look, the colors are very flat. However, the LOG profile of the F3 is very easy to grade, and you can achieve nice results.

    any other cameras have the same sensor?

    • @Nostalgia_Nexus
      @Nostalgia_Nexus  Год назад +1

      I believe the sensor was specifically developed for the Sony PMW F3. The new generation F5/F55 cameras have completely different sensors. However, there is very little information available specifically about this sensor. At least, I haven't found it in my research.

    Brooo! Such a great video. I watched it 3 times and now I want to buy one. Is there a way to upgrade to rgb 4:4:4 by myself or do I need to specifically buy one that has the upgrade installed?

    • @Nostalgia_Nexus
      @Nostalgia_Nexus  Год назад +1

      Thank you! 🙂
      The software update is called CBK-RGB01 and enables the RGB-444/S-Log Gamma option.However, it seems that this update is no longer available.
      Therefore, only a camera that has already been updated is likely of interest.
      That being said, even the 422 output is excellent.

    The F3 is a such a great camera. I had one for a few years before selling it. I regret it to this day. It really is good at low light. I shot this Terminator Fan film with my F3 and most of it was shot in dark warehouses and the images all turned out great. I was using an Atomos Samurai Blade connected to it for 10 bit 422. If you watch the film you will instantly know what the F3 shot. I shot episodes 2 through 4 and they totally stand out from the first episode that was shot on a DSLR.
