- I had a feeling it was not gonna be easy! After Maree “surprised” me with crossing into North Macedonia today we faced some problems going out of Albania. Maree used invalid car papers for some reason (it must have worked going to Africa 😅) and after finding the right papers we were asked to drive into a garage where they took apart EVERYTHING. they were looking for drugs, cigarettes and anything else that could be smuggled illegally. So annoying and it took quite a while. Also super lucky our green insurance card is valid (obviously I haven’t checked that in advance) Oh boy….what a nightmare! Nice surprise, let’s not do it again 🫣 hopefully Eve will bring me to the apartment with the rest of the battery since I am not quite sure how the charging is gonna be like here…let’s see

Every journey should have surprises, it makes for your viewer's entainment. The quest for you hunting a working charging station, was replaced by a border crossing. Expect to be searched at borders occasionally. However, it's unusual that you were searched leaving a country and not entering it. As usual great drone videos. Maree, he needs training in surprises, it will prepare him for the unexpected in the undeveloped countries.

Breathe in, breathe out ... Border crossing was a bit nerving and Maree must have felt awkward when the search was happening ... this wasn't planned after all. Now you know how blessed you are with EU membership. I lived near the border BiH and Croatia, and I usually would get a full search because I was crossing the border every day and sometimes twice a day. Good luck and safe travels! :)

I am not certain about your travel plans but I would advise you both to have the proper papers in order. I have travel the world with my bike and you could have some bad surprises crossing into some countries! Not to scare you but some people have had their bikes and or cars confiscated by customs! Mexico/Chiapas , just to name one country, is very famous for that! Good luck!

You told her that you where exhausted and worn down, and she agreed to take the lead. Well knowing that a border crossing is a stressfull thing for a sensitive man that just told you hes a little low and stressed out at the moment. Then she says 'but what have you prepared? - Nothing!'. Thats not super cool.

Loosing one's temper might get you deported, or even worse.
No such thing as an "uneccessary search" to a customs officer, having had my car turned out in Germany once looking for drugs as i had come from Belgium , in a Swedish car. No point getting angry with anyone who is just doing their job. I do not do surprises like that either.

Calm down people. When I said “unnecessary searches,” I meant from the point of view of the person being searched… there’re few things quite as frustrating as being made to unpack all your belongings at a border crossing when you know you aren’t trying to smuggle anything across. Unfortunately we live in a world where such searches are required. At such times keeping a level head is needed… hence me congratulating Marc & Marie for keeping their cool despite their frustration.
That was an exciting episode 🤭thanks to Maree.

I heard that they check very heavily in general coming from Albania. A lot of smugglers apparently

Planning to visit all the former Yugoslavian countries this autumn. Started reading up on border crossings after your previous episode. I see one has to register with police within 48 hours, if one is not staying at a hotel that can do that job for you. Hope that is working out for you guys. Can’t wait for your next videos. 😎
This is actually necessary for almost every country in the world. That’s why they usually ask you at the border where you will stay the first night. Travelers are mostly not aware of it, because they stay in places (hotel, Hostal, campsites, …) where they can register you.

Yes it is strange! Cause of my background as a musician touring all over the world I’m a little bit used to the phenomena but this RUclips thing is a whole different level of personal exposure! So far I made great experiences meeting viewers and made new friends🤗🙌🏼

It's when it all turns to crap that you get the best stories - if it had all been plain sailing, you'd just be able to tell people 'then we spent a few days in North Macedonia', and tha would be it. As it is, you now have a tale to tell for the rest of your lives! (At least you didn't get held at gunpoint by customs, as I did in Romania .... But this is YOUR channel, not mine! 😂)

I had this stop and search situation in my own country UK because i stopped to stretch my legs on an Airport perimeter road so they tipped my glove box contents onto the grass verge and popped the front door panels away from the door and when they got bored with me i was told if i wanted to complain about the treatment i would have to do some paperwork.
so then i said it seemed pointless and the went and left me so pick my shit up

No worries.... this is part of the adventure... you both are a very pretty couple. No one is perfect mistakes can happen and beyond the trouble that wasn't so terrible. Marrie only ment well (even though I have the same character with you Marc and I do not like to be surprised) . On any case everything goas well .
When you come to Greece 🇬🇷 generally because is a looong story referring noth Macedonia only Macedonia will bring many talks that you don't wanna start just be little aware of that.
And something else if you planning Athens on near destination send me a message... I would love to help you as much as I can I even have planning for e small trip with our bikes (and girls) here so you can see beautiful places and ofcourse taste some really epic food 😂😂😂

Although i was a small child, i can still remember the late 70s and early 80s well, when we traveled by car from Germany to all western European countries (really every country) and often enough not only the passports were checked (especially at the Spanish border)... but I have never experienced or seen any car (not truck) being searched on exit. When a car was searched, it was always upon entry into the next country.
You can't really appreciate the Schengen Agreement without experiencing what it's like to cross a border without the Schengen Agreement

Maree chose a great place! But agree that not being in mind set to deal with border crossings is a very unpleasant surprise, even as a nin-Gernan. Lots of triggers to get sent over to be searched--sucks during the event, but indeed was well worth the effort to get to Ohrid! (And nice that it's easy to get new SIM cards when needed--I'm well past millennial, but don't like not getting internet when I want either 😂. But nice to have an "off" button!)

Hi, my first border crossing 42 years ago to the Netherlands was the same, that's history fortunately! This is an interesting experience. In the most cases EU is a good thing. North-Macedonia could be interesting.... VGvG

Just been to Tunisia and I can say that I never smelt hash once. They only seem to grow olives.
