How would you use a sound for multiple songs? for instance a piano which could appear in 60% of all songs?

Hi Matt!, great vídeo explaining how Anomalie use his plugin chains, now i have to ask you something because i'm not quite getting it:
Why do you use the SONG 1, SONG 2, SONG 3 midi channels if you actually use the change selector to activate and de-active the midi channels where you keep your VSTi's corresponding to SONG 1 Patches, SONG 2 Patches, and SONG 3 Patches directly? I see kinda unnecesary to have the intermediate midi channels of SONG 1,2,3 (not your fault, you are just explaining Anomalie's way of using it, it's just that i don't understand what he does it that way)

Hi TSTBand! Thanks for the comment. You’re totally right and well spotted! This is actually something I’ve spotted since then as well and is indeed unnecessary. Over the past year I’ve done a lot of experimenting and finetuning this setup and this is actually due for an update. I’m planning on making a new “all in one” guide for using arrangement view for live performing

Hey, thanks for the videos. I've something to say however. I tried to make the comparison between loading all instruments in one midi track and using a macro to turn off the instruments and the effects when not in use, and using multiple midi tracks to do the same as Anomalie is claiming to be best, and found no difference in CPU at all! I loaded hundred instances of Pigments, which is such a powerful synth, but whenever they are turned off and only those in use are on, even on one midi track, there is no difference. Therefore, I don't get why one would need to go through the hassle of creating so many midi tracks while it can be done with only one track that contains racks within racks. What's your opinion on this?

Hi Azzazy, thanks for the comment! When loading hundreds of instances of pigments, did you also play audio with all of them at the same time?
I just took some time to check the Ableton manual on this. And Ableton handles tracks in such a way, that only when they are actually producing sounds they are enabled. So even if the track or chain is turned on, Ableton disables them when not playing audio to save CPU.

@@MattFlanc Thanks for taking the time to do so. Yes surely, I programed them to play a 4 bar chord (with a pad sound). I made sure that it's the same number of instances in general in both Live sessions and also the same number of instances playing that chord at a time. Would be nice if you try it as well and share your results.

@@azzazymusic Very interesting, and it actually makes sense.
33.1.2. of the Ableton Manual says: "Generally, every track and device being used in Live incurs some amount of CPU load. How-
ever, Live is “smart“ and avoids wasting CPU cycles on *tracks and devices* that do not contribute
      anything useful."
So if I understand this correctly, that means that Ableton tries to limit cpu usage both for tracks, ánd devices when they're not in use. Therefor it shouldn't make a difference if you're using instrument chains in the instrument rack, as opposed to using multiple MIDI tracks.

Where would I find midi fix like the ones in MainStage.example midi note repeater or chord trigger etc.?

@@MattFlanc hi matt! thank you for the response. I would love to see you kind of performing it live and how you switch from one instrument to the next, with not only the play button, but even if its paused, and you switch over instrumnet by section without a click track. I have a gig coming up where i want to use this set up instead of MainStage. Thank you!!
