Very beautiful music in the English tradition. Gerald Finzi is a first-class composer - check out Dies Natalis.

Pastoral, nostalgic, populist, lyrical, uplifting, .... The strings sing beautifully and the winds are colorful and majestic !!

I wish I had a way to play these works in my car when I take long road trips. You have a genius for locating works I have never encountered.

I certainly agree with Andrew Peterson's enthusiasm for the cello concerto, which in my view has been underplayed, perhaps in favour of Elgar's . I first encountered Finzi's music through his powerful clarinet concerto. I think that these pieces along with the wonderful choral work 'Intimations of Immortality' put Finzi among the great British composers of the first half of the twentieth century.

Curious, Finzi was writing this at the same time Shostakovich was writing his 8th. Hugely anachronistic.

Outstanding! Folk songish. Parts of this remind me of Dave Diamond's 4th Symphony .

Absolutely marvellous incidental music! Finzi's orchestral sense is immaculate throughout. Each piece is perfectly crafted. Compare/contrast "Dance" and "Clowns", for instance....or wonder at the Soliloquies! Incredible.....

GAWD! Just heard this a few hours ago on MN Public Radio for the first time. I had no idea who the composer was! I guessed Vaughn Williams and David Diamond. The the announcer lady told me. So here I am, Rodders! CHEERS!

Fredrick A. Hermes do get familiar. His cello concerto is one of the greater compositions ever given the world!
