Skillet has the incredible ability to write songs with the meaning they intend them in, and also in a way that people could relate to the song, even if they're not Christians or religious. In the end it's about what we choose to hear, and how we choose to let the song affect us.

I dont know if skillet realizes this or not...but this song is the best of all time regarding their career....i am 37 and this song is old as hell.....yet everytime I hear it...it changes my attitude and atmosphere...best song of theirs by far.

John is expressing his unfullfilled thirst to be with Jesus and away from this hell we call earth, this has always been one of my favorite worship songs, John's not afraid to be real in this one.

I'm going to throw in my 2 cents for the song meaning :)
Personally, this song brings my mind to John 4, where Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well. He offers her living water, which will permanently quench her thirst. I feel like Skillet is asking for that living water that will become a ''spring of water welling up to eternal life". Or, it could mean the communion feast of His blood and body.

You guys really think this song is about lust? Just because it uses the word "thirst?" The line, "Deep in the saviors arms.." I'm pretty sure what ever girl he likes isn't "the savior"...
I know it's about god or jesus or w/e religious bullshit, but i just still prefer the lust version in my head
The thirst is taking over sounds like vampire stuff to me, and at the part of `deep in the saviors arms´ I think of the savior of no more thirst which is hell to a vampire. So, long story short, this is a vampire song in my eyes.

@@SteelPanda220 Probably doesn't help that "thirst" is now a slang synonym for lust, usually a desperate, almost obsessive lust for someone. Even if you know about the Biblical passages referring to "thirst for righteousness", it's _really_ hard not to think of the sexual metaphor first if you're not a dyed-in-the-wool born-again Christian.
I wouldnt go that far... but choose the path you think is best for you.

The things I like about this song, is that it can be looked at in different ways - someone's love for God and faith OR someone's love for another person. I guess it depends on the person who listens to it.

The lyrics can go deeper than that. It sounds like the need to become stronger and accepted, and the thirst for that power can immediately can make one consumed by that desire. It can take so much before one snaps and becomes embraced by anger, thinking that the rage can make that person feel like a god. It's the line between light and darkness we walk on like a tightrope, and the need for strength can drive us falling into the shadows.

Yea, theres nothing about this song you cant like. The beat is fantastic, the lyrics are awesome, the chorus is bad ass. AND MOST IMPORATNTLY, THE TIME! I love that it's 6 minutes long. I hate when a song is really good, and it's only 2 to 3 minutes.

@Aspacelobster2 - Its not the same girl; Korey Cooper (the wife of the lead singer) is the singer here, the girl who sings in Awake is the new drummer; Jen Ledger (who has an AMAZING voice as well)
I didn't think Korey did too bad at all in the album Alien Youth though, but thats just my opinion :)

Here on earth, our suffering is temporary, and if we do suffer, we can offer it up to the souls in pergatory. But, you seem like a pretty happy person, don't lose that happiness.
