    I used pallets to make a 3 sided compost pile. I drove some old rebar from on the homestead and dropped the pallets on the rebar to hold them in place.

    There's a garder's saying in the U.K., Do a little, do it often. That could be a useful approach to tearing apart your pallets to get wood ready for re-use. 👍

    I have seen / used pallets for composting bins as well as worm bins. And fences.. Its a great resource and here pretty easy to acquire. No one around me wants to spend the time sorting the wood. And that is true - time or money. You need one or the other to make pallet projects.

    Have you seen the handy guide that breaks down what the symbols that are burned into the side of the pallet mean? That may help you in determining what you want to use each type of pallet for/what's safe. I am a big fan of using pallets and most recently used them for kindling this last winter. ;-)

    We built a nice drying shed for our firewood with pallets (and some reclaimed metal roofing). It works wonderful since the air can circulate and dry the firewood while keeping it dry! You've got a goldmine! Have fun and thanks for another great video.

    Here in Ct, they're people who recycle them like copper. Those aren't just pallets, they're perfect pallets. Awesome score. Keep the box type ones, put in a few extra screws, some water proofing and you will have storage boxes everywhere ! On the other ones. I usually fill in the open spots with extra boards and you end up with a two sided wall that can be wired and insulated. Great video and Thumbs up !!

    If you want large pallets (typically 5' x 10', with4x4 beams) find a manufacturer that has a laser for sheet material. My company has a stack of close to 100 that we have a hard time getting rid of. I have used them for large planters that work great.

    Always ask for pallets! Don't assume they are free. I know a guy who was charged with theft over because he took a bunch of pallets that had deposits on them. He is the kind of guy who wouldn't steal water if he was on fire.
    You can do anything with pallets as long as you are willing to put the time in. Personally I can break down pallets faster then I can make money to buy wood. If you set up a production line with a lot of pallets it's worth the time. I salvage wood from demotions as well. The kids bend the nails back straight and reuse them. I have planed them and laminated them to make my own sheets but that's not worth the time unless it's for a fine finish project.
    Many men go from rags to riches by using other peoples waste! Many men go from riches to rags by wasting!

    building a 16x20 hay shed/tack room with pallets as the walls, and the long slat boards for the outside siding like cedar siding. saved hundreds of dollars not buying 2x4s. taking a long time, but well worth it. love your hay cradle, thats next for the horses.

    What an awesome load of pallets, a little bit of everything. Our first chicken coop for four chickens was one of those wooden boxes. We haven't done too much with pallets just used one to store our garden tools upright. And to keep things off the dirt in the pole barn. Can't wait to see the raised beds you're going to build.

    You can use reclaimed pallets to make a nice 3 section compost bin. You will need 7 total. I used 5 pallets for a 2 section compost bin, but going to get 2 more to make one more. I live in SE Michigan, and wondering if you knew when spring was coming? 🌽🍎🍆

    Don't get me wrong, but i LOVE pallets! :D I boght some of them, and built 4 tables, one 2 workbenches, 3 coffie tables, 1 laptop cooler (from plywood pallets, lots of them).
    But this sight, i feel happy. It's like, i have them, that happiness. Looking forward to seeing them all in action.
    I love pallets and plywood, but plywood pallets, is best thing there is. :D

    Have less money, working at home with your family, animals, tools, hands, and dirt. Or being rich working in a box driving a nice car Livin in the city, high rise apartment. To each his own but I know what I choose.

    • @phxtonash
      @phxtonash 4 года назад

      @Kamper Ken I barely have any money either( I have osteonecrosis that means bone death) but I moved out of the city now I have a huge Garden,and chickens. I TRY to live in the present, I try to have the best time I can. I live in the middle of nowhere property is cheap. I just got out the hospital from having surgery on my elbow and my thumb I've had surgery on every limb now. But instead of being upset about it I'm grateful that I have a wonderful girlfriend, doctors and surgeons and insurance. I know that's something not everyone has I wish they did. guess we all need to help each other out as much as we can. my advice is if something's not working try something else we got 50 states they're all a little different. Nothing is fair and it never will be that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the ride we all end at the same destination. Then again maybe I don't know what the I'm talking about, ignorance can be bliss.

      august have used them on quite a few gardens that I have done, done shed bases-retaining walls-flower beds and have done 2 patios with them and they look fantastic with no maintenance apart from a clean now and again

    • @augustreil
      @augustreil 6 лет назад +2

      Paddy, that sounds great, love the "no maintenance" part ! I used a bunch for edging on some flower beds myself in 1993, and they're still going strong ! Amazing that they last so long. I guess that's why the RR uses Creosote soaked ties!

    Why are you choosing to do raised beds over a traditional garden?

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  6 лет назад +1

      I'll talk more about that in a future video but there are quite a few advantages to raised beds over regular gardening. Control of the soil, moisture retention, no tilling, higher density of crops, no soil compaction, etc. Disadvantage is....well, you have to build them!
