Wow so this is very interesting to hear that there is a taxi mafia in Koh Sami. I have never heard of that before. But good to know about the transit options there. And also great to know that the internet options are great for digital nomads.
Koh Samui just looks stunning. In your experience is the Thai food in Koh Samui on par with the other areas of Thailand or is it more Westernized? Good to see that the Wi-Fi speed is good. The temples are so colorful. Very affordable compared to living in the US.
You can find authentic Thai food their but it's better to avoid the popular tourist locations to find it. I recommend Bang Po Seafood in Bang Po and the Thai Kitchen in Lamai.
This part of the world is really amazing, and I would love to live there for a while too. The prices and accommodations seem reasonable. Thank you for the information; it's very helpful.
The taxi-maffia doesn't sound too good... But otherwise you sure get pretty sunsets... Working on the beach... Oh boy, I don't think I would get any work done! 😂
"Taxi mafia" might also mean that locals are looking after their own business and not being put out of business by international tech companies. My experience of local Samui cabbies are nothing short of excellent. Shop local and deal direct when you can.
Locals taxi drivers run the risk of getting beat up by the taxi Mafia if they use the meter. That's why they're called the taxi Mafia. The taxi Mafia own the taxi and Grab cars to control and drive up prices while the locals continue to earn these small salaries. It does not "might also mean" anything else but this.

I find working with the sound of waves really peaceful. It helps me focus actually.
