- In this 1999 episode of Win Ben Stein's Money, Adam, Bettie, and Steve battle it out to face Ben Stein for his $5,000. Steve wins the game, and in the final round, ends up tying Ben 9-9, the highest tie ever in the final round.
Credit goes to RUclips user jmycenae for uploading the original clips containing this episode. This video merges together both parts, but also removes the ending segment of "The Daily Show" that preceded it, and any commercial breaks as well are removed.
This was one of the best game shows of the '90s. Proof that it isn't the prize that makes a game show great, it's the game.
And great hosts like Ben & Jimmy!! Emmy Winning super stars!!!
Unless of course you like actually wanna win money. But yeah it's definitely cool, I love game shows of all kind just cause you do always learn something no matter what. Some might say that's the best prize of all :) But nah I think I'd rather play myself anyway on Millionaire or Jeopardy maybe.
And Bettie. 😁🤣
@@KiddBloo86 Ben was truly "smitten" with Bettie. And he DEFINITELY had enough money to take her to Vegas for a long time. Oh, well.
"If you ordered frijoles at a Mexican restaurant, what would you get?" "Uh.....frijoles!!" Hahaha, I wondered if they reworded questions like that for future episodes.
I was watching The Mask with Jim Carrey and I forgot that Ben Stein was in that movie haha. Then I remembered that he had my favorite game show of all time.
He also did voice work.
“That’s correct, Wendy! We all wear masks; metaphorically speaking!”
Same! Just got done watching The Mask. Crazy how Ben Stein went from cool guy to jumping off the deep end.
Yes. And in ferris buellers day off
I miss this show
Those Categories Are Totally Funny. 👍 "You Call Me A Son Of A What ? !." lol.😄
One of them is based on Teletubbies.
Poor Steve...EVERYONE wanted more Bettie
Everyone wanted her to be topless you mean!
Or on Ben's lap in the booth. 🤣
LMFAO, "Any number."
Miss this show.
you learn something and it's entertaining. i was in high school when i started watching this.
xYouthAttackx Same her. I was in middle school and proved game shows can do well on cable and still have mainstream appeal without losing coolness.
This was such a damn good show with jimmy kimmel.
good copy. thanks for uploading!
I love this trio of contestants! They are all very odd... :D
The best episodes always were!!!
That was a grudge match on the best of 10. 9-9 tie.
I wish I could see the episode with Andrew, Jean, and Arthur where Ben won the Bonus Round by a score of 10-9.
One contestant saying Mobile Ambulance (instead of Army) Surgical Hospital was what cost a contestant a 9-9 tie.
I would have loved to see a 10-10 tie in the final round.
Why did you put the outcome in the description??
Because only squares read the description before watching the whole video.
^ then again beyond that who cares? Caution, nearly 20 year old spoilers here lie!
Damn Jimmy looks young as hell!!!
Bettie's body language is being done on purpose for Jimmy's benefit. He even raised his eyebrows a couple of time lol it's so obvious!
A quarter of the jackpot just from rounds 1 and 2 wow
16:43 "STUPID BETTIE BEATER!!"
They should have had a sudden death tiebreaker question
+jetnut89
Not enough time. Besides, a $1,000 bonus to the contestant for a tie is fair enough.
And in the pilot, a 10-10 tie, or *any* tie, and the contestant was just "given" the $5K.
What is the name of the piece of classical music at the very beginning of this video? Not Ode to Joy, but the piece before it. i believe it's mozart, but I'm not sure.
Beethoven's 9th was the piece
"Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" by Johann Sebastian Bach.
DNA vs TNA vs QNA
If this show happened today, she'd probably sue everyone and everything for sexual harassment.
Some women would, but I don't think she would. Bettie seemed like a good sport.
Same name from Orange County at the L.A. Times in 2008 then later at Yahoo in 2016. Didn’t find any pictures to compare of Bettie in 2024. Hustler index has her byline most months over 3 years (‘96-‘99). One title that can be shared in this comment - “Loads of Stripped-Down Lovelies Vie for Miss Showstopper of the Year” as reported by Bettie Rinehart
Ben actually let Bettie keep the $700?! Wow! If he did, then that means all that Ben's got left of his $5,000 stash is $2,050!
***** No, I think you meant to say Ben would have ended up with $3,750 (since Steve, not Chris, was guaranteed $1,250 from the first round), but ended up with $2,750 after giving Steve an extra $1,000 because of the tie.
*****
Well, he did say he would let Bettie keep the $700. I don't know if he was joking; because normally anyone who gets eliminated after Rounds 1 and 2 (and thus prior to the Best of 10 Test of Knowledge) gets their money added back to Ben's stash.
No I'm sure his producers had to tell him negatory.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he has more than $5000 in the bank.
More importantly, the show actually supplied the money (not Ben), so the producers almost undoubtedly said "absolutely not."
You could say Steve won since he answered them all faster than Ben but it wouldn't be right and it's 17 years later
One contestant saying Mobile Ambulance (instead of Army) Surgical Hospital cost the contestant a 9-9 tie.
Trevor Panno was that the episode with Jim, Emily, and Aaron? I remember watching that episode and Jim lost to Ben in the bonus round by a score of 9-8
It was and that last question was the big difference between what would have been a tie and Jim losing to Ben.
Jimmy Kimmel bears some similarity to Ioan Gruffud.
This show would never fly today. Ben Stein would have been cancelled immediately.
Ben may well be the hippest conservative Republican who ever lived.
Me and my friends would smoke bottle tokes and watch this show religiously.
I'm not sure what to call the thing that's happened to Bettie.
Uncomfortable.
What's the music at 16:15?
I like that song too, I remember finding the name out years ago because they used that same song in a classic SNES game “earth worm jim” hahah here’s a link to the song

Night on Bald Mountain.
Wow extra $1000 beautiful 😍
Am I too young are do these questions seem wayy harder than modern day Jeopardy?
I knew they were tougher. I used to watch this on Comedy Central with my grandmother. She loved Jimmy. I wish she could see his success on his late night show.
I don't think they're necessarily way harder than Jeopardy questions. The thing with Jeopardy is that they will usually give you some type of hint or clue within the question that can help whereas it's more off-the-top-of-your-head with Ben Stein's Money.
Dating myself here, but I used to watch this and jeopardy back to back daily, back in the day. And yes, these were more difficult that jeopardy questions even then.
On a side note, I think Who wants to be a Millionaire started the dumbing down of quiz shows which followed and killed off all the great quiz shows of the day.
These questions were way easier than Jeopardy.
As someone who was in high school at the time this show was on air, I could answer a quarter to a third of Jeopardy questions; whereas, this show I could usually answer more than half.
Just now, I only missed like 6 or 7 questions, and I'm a dude in his 40s who hasn't done shit with his life but watch movies and work shit jobs. This show's questions were easy.
Ben whisper said no
Well done steve ben gonna give you extra $1000 👏👍😀
I'm sorry adam
And with the way Ben leers at Bettie all the way through, even if you didn't know he was a Nixon speechwriter you'd know immediately he was a Republican.
13:04 should have just ended the round right there..
Hey Ben what are you doing you reading magazine

...you know, for all we gripe about '10s SJWs, this episode kind of makes me thankful for them.

Nah. Not even CLOSE, in my opinion.
Yeah, it was extremely cringey how much he was hitting on her 😬
Why did Ben let Bettie keep the money? Has he done that before?

The sexism in this episode is cringe worthy.

So quiet and muffled, can't watch.
