Did you ever download the wallet to see what it was all about too? I downloaded it but thought it was a scam. I think i only tried the faucet for small amount of btc. didn't understand loading the whole blockchain, (and then the transactions would appear). Satoshis instead of $ value. .dat files. confusing af.

Demand has to fall when only the elites can get their hands on them. A surge in btc/EUR and btc/USD is likely due to raging inflation. Bitcoins will be like gold or platinum, unreachable for the common people.

How can it be a ponzi-scheme when it's decentralized? The main idea of Bitcoin is that it can not be influenced or controlled by one instance, government or person. They are just hard to get by mining them, so people pay money for them as the supply is limited - the bitcoins itself don't have value, but because people have convidence it's worth what they pay for it.
i will try to use this new currency but even with the tutorial it looks complicated and a bit scary.will invest very small amount and see what happens.
So I had the bitcoin client in 2009 and it looked nothing like this. It consisted of a reoccurring loading bar a little guy with a yellow construction hat hitting some ore with a mining pick. This was before digital wallets I believe. I downloaded the client after reading the whitepaper. My computer has been in storage for 11 years now as I have been overseas but I do recall mining for a few hours a day. People still have physical copies of the transactions. The companies that participate in bitcoin economy would definitely keep a ledger of their transaction. You might lose some up to date information, but at least the record is there. Don't worry, it won't be armageddon. I think there will be more chaos if every electronic device is fried.
I don’t get one thing, ok let’s say you mined or bought 27500 bitcoins back in 2009.. where would they be right now?? I mean there wasn’t any hardware wallets back then.. they could easily been stolen? By the time a security wallet was built the amount of bitcoins would already been stolen back then right?
Before trezor and the other hardware wallets normally you just printed the private key on paper or stored it on a flash drive. Lots of coin got lost from wallet.dat files accidentally being deleted. (back when everyone used the now named bitcoin core client and had the entire blockchain stored locally)

As the units get smaller, the convention and nomenclature will change. People will say "100 microbits" or whatever. We're used to scaling up with numbers, but not to scaling down. It's the same thing though. They are talking about quadrillions in derivatives worldwide.What's the difference if you go the other way and the currency gains value rather than losing it so that the smaller denominations become the most familiar? They're just numbers.

The main idea of Bitcoin is that it can not be influenced or controlled by one instance, government or person.
They are just hard to get by mining them, so people pay money for them as the supply is limited - the bitcoins itself don't have value, but because people have convidence it's worth what they pay for it.

So I had the bitcoin client in 2009 and it looked nothing like this. It consisted of a reoccurring loading bar a little guy with a yellow construction hat hitting some ore with a mining pick. This was before digital wallets I believe. I downloaded the client after reading the whitepaper. My computer has been in storage for 11 years now as I have been overseas but I do recall mining for a few hours a day. I was wondering if you have any knowledge of the client that was before the one you are displaying in your video.

I have a question, if you can't double spend them then arn't they destroyed after a transaction? or is that just by the individual? and if that is the case and there is a limit on how many can be mined ie 21 million or something then once there are no more to be mined it is useless as a commodity or currency?

Bitcoins are mathematically generated and the computers perform difficult calcultaions in order to make a block, a block is a record of some or all of the most recent bitcoin transactions that have not yet been recorded in any prior blocks and as a result you are given bitcoins depending on your contribution.

They actually could. Part of the challenge is that each bitcoin is serialized and can be 'lost' meaning that if you lose your wallet, those bitcoins are gone forever. The system is designed to be entirely crackdown proof - so long as one bitcoin exists and its value is established by demand, you can subdivide it into very small amounts in order to expand or contract the supply to suit demand.

To say "there is only 7.1 trillion dollars worth of gold" is entirely irrelevant. A dollar is nothing more than a digital unit of account that is created at will out of thin air. How does pricing gold in "dollars" affect gold's utility as money?

People still have physical copies of the transactions. The companies that participate in bitcoin economy would definitely keep a ledger of their transaction. You might lose some up to date information, but at least the record is there. Don't worry, it won't be armageddon. I think there will be more chaos if every electronic device is fried.

I don’t get one thing, ok let’s say you mined or bought 27500 bitcoins back in 2009.. where would they be right now?? I mean there wasn’t any hardware wallets back then.. they could easily been stolen? By the time a security wallet was built the amount of bitcoins would already been stolen back then right?
Before trezor and the other hardware wallets normally you just printed the private key on paper or stored it on a flash drive. Lots of coin got lost from wallet.dat files accidentally being deleted. (back when everyone used the now named bitcoin core client and had the entire blockchain stored locally)
