Incredibly good performance and instrumentation! The product and flow is sheer perfection. Scott’s voice once again delivers perfection. Miss him
A true legend R.I.P. Scott Walker give David Bowie a hug for me...
Had this on vinyl years ago... one of five LP albums I had of Scott. An unmatched masterpiece... Scott's cinematic drama is garlanded by soul searching lyrics. Wow.
A brilliant piece of work by the legend that is Scott Walker.
Genius. That last verse gives me chills !!!! So intense and dark and beautiful.
I have listened to this song since its release over 40 years, and knew all along it was based on the Ingmar Bergmann film. I never saw the film, and now, finally after 40 years, I finally "get it!" Walker's lyrics set against the backdrop of these clips is nothing short of amazing and beautiful. A true history lesson for me! Finally, someone calling himself "standingathwart" made a truly amazing edit of song and film and after 40 years, I get it! Thank you, whoever you are for making this.
Brilliant movie, brilliant song and brilliant upload. Thanks, this deserves so much more views than this!
Great film clip
Suits my mood this morning - indeed.
God bless Bergman, Walker and the person who made the video
One of my favourite 60s Scott songs. Love to know what Bergman thought if this? I would think he would have loved it.
I can't believe there are no comments. Does no one actually care? Fucking unbelievable piece of work from all parties. Apart from the obvious credits to the genii of Ingmar Bergman and Scott Walker, a special thank you to standingathwart for this amazing upload. Beautiful job. Thanks very much.
Well I saw this and went out and bougth the Seventh Seal on DVD from Tartan and Scott 4 from iTunes. This mash is outstanding work
Am amazed no one has come here yet cos of Covid-19.
Yet another brilliant track. Check out some of the lesser known, but brilliant, ones The Ballad of Sacco And Vanzette, I still See You and Alone (recorded off his TV Show in the 60s.
Great start to a great album :)
What a way to open an album!

The game finally ends... RIP Max von Sydow
"...I am not a Witch, God know me."
'I am Starshine, The Norwegian Elf. Let me proclaim; The seals have been opened. It is only a matter of time. A child will be born, that offers peace. He will be thought as an AntiChrist, But he is of the Light. This Child will have been conceived in mystery and the unknown, of two different belief systems and this child will be named Wormwood." -Starshine the Elf, has spoken.
best two out of three?
Anybody seen a knight pass this way?
I saw him playing chess with Death, yesterday
His crusade was a search for God and they say
It's been a long way to carry on
[Verse 2]
Anybody hear of plague in this town?
The town I've left behind was burned to the ground
A young girl on a stake, her face framed in flames
Cried, "I'm not a witch, God knows my name"
The knight, he watched with fear, he needed to know
He ran where he might feel God's breath
And in the misty church, he knelt to confess
The face within the booth was Mr. Death
[Verse 3]
"My life's a vain pursuit of meaningless miles...
Why can't God touch me with a sign?"
"Perhaps there's no one there," answered the booth
And Death hid within his cloak and smiled
"This morning I played chess with Death," said the knight
"We played that he might grant me time...
My bishop and my knight will shatter his flanks
And still I might feel God's heart in mine!"
[Verse 4]
And through confession's grille, Death's laughter was heard
The knight cried, "No, you've cheated me!
But still I'll find a way, we'll meet once again
And once again continue to play!"
They met within the woods, the knight, his squire, and friends
And Death said, "Now, the game shall end"
The final move was made, the knight hung his head
And said, "You've won, I've nothing left to play..."
[Verse 5]
The minstrel filled with visions, sang to his love
To look against the stormy sky
The knight, his squire, and friends, their hands held as one
Solemnly danced toward the dawn
His hourglass in his hand, his scythe by his side
The master, Death, he leads them on
The rain will wash away the tears from their faces
And as the thunder cracked, they were gone
@starshinelilflower I am death, I have come to get you.
Lovely song, silly lyrics. Like he's reading the synopsis from wikipedia word for word.
