This deck is problematic, we don't have shaman's and the design of the darkness and shadows are to paint us as a fantasy as in the past. Notice the no definitive background . It is a way of fantasizing us. Makes me think the person that made them was not indigenous.
@@WickedMoonlight1 you're more than welcome. Shaman is an indo European word. What we have in our cultures is medicine societies . Medicine people. And seers and a few other groupings that I can't name here cause the titles are only said in ceremonies. Due to their sacredness
I wish this comment got pinned as it's the one voice we need to hear in this conversation. I cannot find any information about the artist's heritage. But his surname sounds Eastern European, and sadly, as an EE myself, I can tell you - most of us know about your culture as much as Disney showed. Further to this I had a look at his other art and he is a surrealist artist? Why would you hire a white man from the OPPOSITE side of the globe who paints "NOT real" things to do a deck in this theme? And when you look at some of his other art, the backgrounds get very detailed, especially some that were clearly inspired by falling apart Soviet Union style architecture. So to me, it looks like he'd rather blur the background than actually research your history and culture. On the opposite side of things I would not mind the "in your face cards" if it was an indigenous author. It would be important representation of true horrors of colonisation. But it was not this guy's story to tell and it felt like using the whole community's trauma for shock value. Not a fan of this deck overall...
There’s a lot of native folks and symbols used in the tarot oracle community and it’s pathetic and offensive. A lot of white creators profiting of cultures they don’t respect.
I find the minimalism keeps the deck form being tokenism. The misty background feels to me like it's drawing me into my intuition. A little like the spacious tarot. I like it.
I have some appreciation for this deck. I like the painting art-style. I like the monotones and color story… it sets the overall tone for the deck. The images convey each of the messages clearly and even with the minimalist depictions, the deck evokes emotions. That being said I have reservations about this deck. I want to know what are the intentions of the deck. I want to know about the author and illustrator. I wanted to see more written within the guidebook... I wanted explanations for the symbolism. One card that stood out most was that I didn’t really like the Wheel of Fortune with dreamcatcher image.
It feels so flat and like there’s a lack of energy. And when I think of what I know of the many Native American cultures (I am not Native American myself), lack of energy never comes to mind.
It's odd. Not only was the Devil card dark, it didn't even really make sense in terms of what the Devil card means. I would have thought a beautiful Native American deck would have a lot of vibrancy and color. Their different cultures have gorgeous, intricate artwork. I'd want to see lots of symbols and meaningful things. While I liked the dog with the Fool, it looked like a golden retriever, which seemed out of place. Most of these felt like stock figures. There were a few really beautiful cards. It felt like a deck made by someone who didn't have knowledge of any Native American cultures. As far as representing them, I don't feel it succeeded.
Thank you for your honest opinion about the deck. I’ve been looking for a Native American themed deck, but this one has an almost angry or even violent feeling to many of the cards. I’m looking more for a deck that demonstrates the Native American respect for nature and Mother Earth/Father Sky.
i have been looking for an indigenous tarot deck for quite awhile and unfortunately this will not be the one i’ll be buying. our culture is vibrant, lively, and full of symbolism. this deck is quite frankly very bland and depressing. although that may have been the artists’ intention as an honoring of ancestral trauma. i am not sure, the intentions of the deck would be something i would like to dive deeper in myself. but i do know the use of a dream catcher as a the wheel of fortune felt like i would find this deck at a gift shop. really disappointed and hope to find a deck to support. ahéhee’, thank you for the video. ❤️
Yeah im not sure about the artists intentions or ideas behind the deck. I liked the dreamcatcher card, but totally agree, it doesn't fit the energy of the wheel of fortune. You are welcome ❤
I also like the minimalist view. However , I really wish it had more female representation. The arrows worked for me better than sword symbolism. Kind of felt the arrow pain.
I feel like this deck wants us to dive deeper, to focus on the direct message, the feeling that each card wants the reader to feel. Hence the lack of background images. I think it's beautiful but I find it leaves me feeling odd. It's a bit too solemn
Um, that Three of Wands... those wouldn't be ships one would be welcoming. It's supposed to be your ship coming in, I thought. And The Hanged Man looks like he's being punished, or worse.
I like this tarot deck a lot, because the vibrational energies feel like lapis lazuli & turquoise to me. But, unless the tarot reader knows he/she/they are from a shamanic tradition, it may not resonate well. It is a very intuitive deck, so that’s why I like it a lot. At first I really liked the cards. But as you went through the deck, the cards became too similar. I didn't like the backgrounds. Give me some sunshine! All foggy and dark.
IMO we should normalize boycotting decks which fetishize and appropriate words such as “native” “spirit” etc. That are made by non-indigenous people. This was clearly not made by an indigenous person and the “Native American” theme is just so overdone and innacurate. There’s hundreds and hundreds of individual indigenous cultures throughout the americas, and its inappropriate and colonial to portray indigenous people as they are depicted in this deck and effectively erase authentic indigenous cultures, people, and knowledge . It’s borderline offensive.

Thank you for the clarification. ❤ I don't know if the artist/author is indigenous.

@@lagerthal6344 I'll pin it now, good idea! This is highly disappointing.

"Uneasy" is the word that comes to mind
Ok good to know that we are thinking the same way

I can see that ❤

I agree. The dreamcatcher card was pretty, but didn't fit.

I completely agree
I could see myself using this deck for shadow work. It has the shadow work kind of vibe to me 🤷♀️
I can see that as well ❤

Yes, exactly.
I need! Please share more native decks 🤎

I really liked the arrows for the Swords as well.
Interesting deck... l think the artwork is unique... maybe not my style but someone will enjoy this a lot

Well said!
I love your reviews but i have no idea how big or small your hands are. Are your hands standard tarot size?

I just bought those cards and I don't like those cards some are ok but most darkness
a great example of tokenism, and a pitiful attempt to fit Native American people into a RWS cast; I really thought we were long past :-(
Yeah... it makes me feel uncomfortable in a few ways
At first I really liked the cards. But as you went through the deck, the cards became too similar. I didn't like the backgrounds. Give me some sunshine! All foggy and dark.
Yeah the backgrounds really throw me
