@GridLineGo hey what's up bro did you try the fwd in soft sand. I actually lifted my 97 fwd rav with a old emu kit and all terrain tires. And been debating to take it in soft sand before converting it to awd. Curious if you gave it a try, I added recovery point to my hitch with a factor 55 incase I do get stuck. But was curious if you had tried at all in the sand with your fwd rav.
Dude! I off road my fwd RAV4.2 also! Key seems to be momentum momentum momentum, especially in mud. My biggest issue is striking the oil pan, however. Seems to scrape every time I go out. Should really get a skid plate before I push my luck too far.
Momentum really is key. You just have to calibrate the "send" factor. How much and for how long hahaha!! Yeah, the oil pan is definitely and major thing to look out for. A decent skiddy will go along way. Thanks for watching 👍
Love the video. I also have a 2nd gen Rav4 2wd, and I love it. It's the 04 models so it has the upgraded motor which gives it a bit of a power boost. Thinking about maybe raising it a bit, adding good tires, and taking some trails with a couple of friends just in case I need help assistance lmao.
ive honestly gone up stuff like in this a v4 camry the only time ive ever seen 4wd look important is when you're like.. knee deep in mud, or trying to climb rocks up to your waist, at which point you're only off roading for fun and you're probably going to cause a lot more problems than just getting stuck.
Very good video. The rav4 did very good specialy with those tires. Better tires more agresive driving and better lines and you could have done the whole trail
It did absolutely amazing for what is. If I had a small lift and better tires, I would suppose that it could have made it 100 more yards, but maybe not the whole trail on it's own power. That hill was steep. Now if it was AWD, I think it would have a much better chance. Thanks for watching!
@@GridLineGo basically, it's 4wd, but you can't take down the driveshaft, or else the ecu will see that the back wheels are spinning and it won t let you rev it more
Yeah we think so too. We did drop the tire pressure a bit on the RAV4 once we started to head back uphill. The FWD aspect probably didn't help either, if it was RWD, we suspect we would have a better chance
Some hopes for my 2wd Rav4 lol. Tires and ground clearance might of helped out a bit. But honestly, I don't think even the 4wd Rav4 would of made it much further either.
Hahaha! I'm so impressed with this car! And yes, I agree, the tires for sure especially on the traction boards. There are future plan of making this RAV4 awd one day, and we want to return to this trail and try it again
The AWD Rav4 would make a big difference IMO. The only way to really tell is to compare it directly, but based on other videos it seems to be great, especially for people that have the factory Torsen rear differential, or even better, the aftermarket locking rear diff.
Love this video here's to all my fellow 2-wheel drive off-roaders!
Don't let 2wd stop you from having fun on the dirt 😆👍
putting the rav4 fwd was awesome. It's very interesting to see this 2001 toyoa performing so well like that
It honestly blew our minds! 🤯
You can drive 2wd off-road, all day no problem! You just need to watch out for mud or snow. Those can get you stuck even with a proper 4x4.

The 2wd / Fwd Rav4 was also offered with a limited-slip front differential, which would make a slight better difference on such terrain.

oh sweet! That'll be really cool!
great video been wondering how this car would do popped up in my recommendations
Hey thanks! We were pretty curious too 😄
amazing rav 4
Thanks!
just needs some k02's on that rav4 should be very capable for a 2wd
Agreed!

With enough will and momentum a 2wd goes a lot further than most people will think
most people don't realize but front wheel drive is made for driving up hill
Please explain this, because from everything I know, it's not.
I dont know if I agree with that
Tires were the biggest issue, Fun adventure.
Definitely a huge factor. Thanks for watching!

great video guys! very nice ride and directing you guys did!
Thank you! It was a blast making it and watching this little beast in action 🎬
Ya hadda get the 4wd
Great video.
Thank you! Im glad you enjoyed it 😁
This is how I wanna be with my 2016 rav 4
Hahaha!! Itll do great!
How did you get a 2WD 2.0 petrol rav4 2nd gen? I am convinced that this car 2wd version was only avaliable with 1.8 petrol engine. Very interesting.
You from Europe ?
@@Guillo78 Yes I am
That must be way.
@@Alamida_Slim probably the reason
Does it have traction control? If not, a newer model that has it might do better
If I remember correctly, JD turned off VSC because it was reducing so much throttle input that it made it very difficult to accelerate
this military truck is also interesting to see lol
Its such a treat watching that rig in action. I absolutely love it!
why is it 2wd? doesn't it have haldex system and you can t take the driveshaft down?
Its 2wd. I havent heard of a Haldex system before, what is that?

Not bad a slightly higher SUV might make it in 2wd and airing down a bit. A little bit of luck and speed might do the trick.

You're welcome! And thanks for watching 😁
Awesome Video! 🤙🏽
Thanks man! 😁

I think the tab 4 did great being that it’s 2wd
Right!? We were shocked! And it was so fun watching it in action
