The piece of music here is Equinoxe Part 4 and the performance is a live concert at the Place de la Concorde in Paris on 14 July 1979. The 1976 in the title is wrong, this was the year that Oxygene was released; Equinoxe was released in 1978.

Ever since i was a young teen I am still a fan of Jean Michel Jarre, the father of all Synths, this is what started my intro into electronic musical nerdism, later on ending up as a full blown nerd in music creation. Everyone was on pot and crack while i was addicted to making musical art.

The reason is to create an illusion that it is being played live. Look, I love Jarre, and listen to his music quite often, but the truth is that he rarely plays live. The only concert where he did play 100% live was Oxygene 2007-2008 tour in Europe. I once spoke with a musician who participated at Jarre's Destination Docklands concert in London and he told me that all the synths and equipment were turned off, because of the rain & fear of electric shock. JMJ prepares all his concerts in advance.

I have this LP. I like Jarre but he is among many of the "electronic pioneers". His father was a great composer named Maurice Jarre who did among many other film tracks Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Zhivago. But Kraftwerk was doing electronic in the early 70's as well and it was really more electronic and experimental than Jarre who was more classic composition. In my humble opinion anyway. And has much more to do with Dance , Trance , Techo etc. All the best, music lovers!

Absolutely, the audience wouldn't know any better, that's the key. What you hear here IS the album, identical right down to the Synthi A effects. He's completely miming. What he's obviously rehearsed is being able to keep up enough of an illusion for the layman (of the time anyway) not to give it a second thought. He's a good showman, always has been. If they're entertained then fine...

I can’t find a band from the late seventies that composed a song call: beyond the milkyway. Or: into the milkyway. I don’t know the band name. Their first album had ten songs. Their lyrics and instrumental were out of this world. Until today. Better than all of the itlalo space cosmo I’ve heard. Besides kOTO-Visitor. The instrument is a combo of disco bass, Afro disco and futuristic synthesizer. Everything match up beautifully. I hope it’s not lost forever.

I would just say that... WTF he thinks he was doing with his left hand?! That was a bad hand-sync, and I am surprised that, after all these years, he still can't play a theremin half decently. But he can compose, no question about it.

Well....It's not because they are well known they are true pioneers....A lot of synth and electronic music was already happening in the 50's and 60's... even in the 40's there was already electronic music....It's better to say that Jarre, Kraftwerk ...etc brought electronic music to popular culture and the masses instead of being "early pioneers" :-)

People are going to hate me for this but If you watch carefully a lot of it is an elaborate mime to backing tracks. Early on he is twiddling with a VCS, and tapping some kind of electronic snare, but then he does off and plays with other things, and the snare keeps on going. Once you know what instruments are responsible for what sounds in the original, it becomes very apparent. For example, I don't think an Eminent 310u can play its self. But hey a 1976 audience would not know any better.

This is Equinoxe 4, to be a bit more specific. Are we sure this is from 1976? The album was not released until December 1978... In fact, recording for the album did not start until January 1978. Now that doesn't guarantee that this recording is from 1978 or later, but it does strongly suggest so. Not that it matters that much, it's just great music anyway. I was lucky to run into this entire album on vinyl a few weeks ago for just 2 euros and I totally love it! :D
