  • Welcome to Beyond The Fly ~
    Season 4 Episode 6 "Could this be the episode that we find grandpa?"
    My hopes are always set high, and the glass remains half full when it comes to fishing. You truly never know what kind of fish you will connect with. Just thinking about that is AWESOME! If you don’t get to put a fish in the net, I hope you remember to stop and fully soak up the process of getting to & being on the water. Mama nature is too cool, and she has endless episodes for us to be a part of. From big to little we will take every opportunity to meet them all. Hope you enjoy today’s fully packed Stillwater episode. I for one am grateful for the freedom to meet each one of these rainbow trout seen in today's episode. With any luck, hopefully each one will continue to grow and become a grandpa someday. If not they may land on a plate to feed a family or one of the many Osprey that roam the cliff sides………

    This channel is dedicated to more than just fly fishing. It is about overcoming major life challenges, health obstacles, embracing the unknown, building a community, and soaking up the healing power of simply, "being outdoors with a fly rod". It has taken years to regain my health and I can truly say that fly fishing is a key component in my recovery from a continued battle with Lyme Disease. Beautiful lake! That bridge is epic! Nice watching you do some catching! A float tube can really give me a sense of solitude and connection to a lake that is not possible otherwise. Thanks for sharing!

      Howdy Ronnie! Hope the 4th was good to you? They couldn’t have built it any better. It looks good perched over those two canyon walls. Having the float tube has added a new layer and energy to chasing fish with a fly rod. Opens a lot of new doors. Have you ever been out on a foot tube? Thanks for taking the time to watch.

      @@BeyondTheFly I do use a float tube, mostly late fall chasing rainbows and browns in South Park. I’ve found using a spinning rod is a lot more efficient for me in landing fish and changing depths in a tube as opposed to a fly rod.

      @@Kjack2023 that great man. I can’t wait to hit a few spots this fall with the float tube. Especially when the colors change. That’s a good point with the depth. It’s a challenge and limited using a fly rod.

    Love the narrative that you bring to the video. Love fishing but haven’t been able to do it as much as I would like to. And your right getting out on that water is the best in the world. We finally had some rain during the past few days. Duck dynasty is a awesome show. I’m glad you’re doing better. Great catches as always. Being one with nature is a beautiful thing. I wish I could do more.

      My New Mexico friend! I know your schedule and work life is crazy and has been for a long time. Hope you get even a 1/2 day to go play on the water. Seeing that rain fall in your neck of country is a fantastic thing. Thank you for the continued support. Looking forward to hearing about that moment you get to be on the water. Have a great 4th of July. 🇺🇸🎣❤️

      Thanks a milli Josh! I can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting to drop this song into a video. It’s so easy to nerd out on the Viking culture. Its jaw dropping some of the shows that have been created. Any future fishing plans? Thanks for taking the time to comment & watch. Have a great 4th of July 🇺🇸🎣❤️

    How you liking that float tube? I was thinking about getting one? Costco had one noting ago and I almost picked it up. Nice video brotha! The cheese was great dry fly fishing on Monday. Those bows are fun on a 4 weight!

      Dave! Hey man. I’m really enjoying the float tube. It opens up a new world of fly fishing. Different pace and your not fighting for space on the water. I think you would really enjoy it. Yes sir, tis the season to lace up dry flies. Makes my heart happy that you got back in the canyon. I agree 100% a 4 wt on this day would have been a kick. Have a great 4th 🇺🇸

    Great vid! What depth do you tend to set your indicator when close to banks like this? And are you using floating line?

    • @BeyondTheFly
      @BeyondTheFly  2 года назад

      Many thanks for checking out the video! I'm using about 12' from indicator to fly #1. I leave my floating line on for ease of jumping from lake to river. I needed about 15'-18' of tippet in this video to get into the cooler water. Still learning how to manage that kind of line/tippet for when you do get a take. Hope that helps?

    do you know any colorado rivers that aren’t as rugged, i just had back surgery and i’m afraid to steep climbs

      First I hope you are recovering well? Yeah playing it safe is super important. The trail getting down to the Yampa river below Stagecoach dam isn’t crazy steep, well maintained with foot traffic. You can fish from the edge between the dam and canyon narrow. There are several sections along the south platte downstream from the town of Deckers all the way downstream past Twin Cedars. The river bottom isn’t really slicked from algae either. Nice sand bars you can stand in. The dream stream would be another good one has its fairly flat grass with easy banks to walk down. Most of these spots are packed with people. A weekday trip is best if there is any water flowing. Lastly there is a small section of St Vrain Creek in the town of Lyons. I think it’s hwy 36. Again check flows and any heavy rains. Let me know if that helps???? Heal quickly!!!

      @@jacksonstroud2286 That sounds exciting. I don't want you to have a bummer birthday so double check steamboatflyfisher dot com. They will have updates if the tailwater and other rivers are open to fishing. You can call them too. I have looked at water flows but there has been many summers the flow is too low it will kill the fish. There are some great lakes around there that you can sling a dry fly (elk haired caddis or parachute adams) on and move some nice fish. Thanks for the update and hope you can find a place that is cooler and the fish are biting. Happy BIRTHDAY!!!!
