I watch a lot of your videos with my youngest daughter and she loves to share some love through smashing the like button. Thank you for sharing your art and educating others in this craft!
Once again John produces a nice alternative and decorative design and demonstrates great lessons in forging and shaping in his ever educational videos. Thank You John
Another way cool hook Mr. John Thanks for inviting us along. Congratulations on the 100K milestone. I know it's early but I'll be on the road for a while and know I'll miss it. It sure has been fun so far.
Very cool, My wife, You and I are making a tradition of Sunday Morning Hook of the Week with a cup of coffee, two dogs and a lot of love. Thank you for these special moments...
Congratulations Mr. John on reaching 100K, Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with us each week. You are an inspiration to all of us, and to me you are a Master.
Dear Mr Bear:) i want to thank ypu for your video's! I have 3 boys, 13,10, and 8. Since i got hooked on your channel. My kids and i have started to make( attempt lol) some of the projects you have done. Thank you for allowing me to show my kids there is more to this world other then Xbox and PlayStation. Keep up the great work. Love you channel and really enjoy all your videos. God bless!!
Another great hook, I used to have a bucket full of those bolts as I was in the electrical distribution business and we scrapped out a lot of reels, all I would have needed to make hooks was a forge, anvil, hammers, and lots of experience.
Good Evening , John Very Nice anvil work on this Hook of the Week ! The technique for the spiral and ball was very informative to me ! Another one for my Journal ! Take Care and Be Safe ! Keep Hammering !
Just watched this yesterday. I just got my forge and anvil set up as something to distract me during the quarantine. I happened to have the same cable spool rods, and thought this would be a great project for practicing scroll work. Wish I could show you here, but it came out great (best hook yet, granted it's like my 4th one). Thanks for you great videos, they are so helpful for this beginning "smith".
John ANOTHER great Hook of the Week. My wife thinks I should be making some of these like you are inspiring us to do. MORE on the "Honey-Do" list. Great video!!!
John a new twist to nice way to hang stuff , Much nicer than the Cowboys way to hang. I been slowly finding time to build my ribbon burner just finished a few days ago and today's going to put to use, I heated up a 3lb hammer to be piece of steel to preheat and dry forge motar to almost a workable orange in 5 minutes , Much quicker than my coal start ups. I will try to almost copy but hopefully adding a twist of my own. I did put a seliold on for safety,Sir I again thank you.
Really like this hook. I have access to plenty of them rods at work going to try one of these hooks to hang in my welding area for my welding mask. Love all your videos but look forward to the hook of the week shows. Thanks
As always you are a great inspiration. Look forward ever week to this video. I have made similar hooks from engine head bolts. They have a integral washer that I made into a ball end.
When you was talking about scrolling tight enough that it closes the gaps. My first thought (with it in the shape it looked like) if this was out of 308 stainless with real good heat control and white wash for stainless steel this could be a lollipop.
Two things: 1st, you should get a free pizza of your choice for a small plug for the pizza place. 2nd, you should have kept the bolt head as it was. That would be pretty cool.
You make that scrolling look so easy! Just thinking if it had a 90 bend where the screw holes are so the scroll is above the ball it would make a nice table edge hook / hanger
Another nice hook of the week, Regarding texture, a lot of what I do uses reclaimed material. If it's too rough, I dress it down considerably, and if by chance I use "new" material I lightly texture it so it doesn't look like that cold formed tack welded china crap.
Always learn something from HOTW, and this one was no exception. I agree that doing a tighter spiral is easier; just did a wall-mounted candle holder with a tight spiral to set the candle on, but it wasn't as fiddly as your project, thank goodness!
We hear a lot about cold shuts, which are to be avoided for looks and good workmanship, but for most applications, are they really a strength concern? A demonstration of this would be very instructional.
hello.. just a thought, to stop the smaller swedge block from bouncing, a magnet(s) in the larger swedge block openings, you do a great service, enjoy your instruction, maybe some history on different tools would be interesting.
With the inspiration hook, I like the small scroll where you have the ball end and I like that the screws are dome headed and have the black forged look instead of shiny factory look. With your hook, I like the whole hook! It definitely has more time, skill and love put into it and it just feels more finished becuase you scroll goes all the way down to a point. The inspiration hook does have that going for it, it is inspirational! LOL If I do some, I think I'll be doing the small scroll at the hook end, instead of the ball....... as I have rod without the bolt heads. It's really nice to see where you get some of your idea's from and how you would then interpret those idea's into your own work. I really enjoyed this one and think I'll be playing with and learning how to do scroll work in my near future 😁
At the 9:50 mark you mentioned about solid fuel forge vs gas burning the metal. Can you maybe explain that in a future episode? I had a trammel tip fall apart on me, and didn't understand why.
Nice hook. Spiral is a scrolling excercises deluxe. No offense sirSir but it brings realism to the table when an accomplished and seasoned smith has a bit of a fiddly time w a project. As I said no offense sirSir, just let's us new guys know " here's a challenge even a pro has to do work around on. Oughta be interesting to see how many times I gota go rewatch this one" lol. Hope that came out right n not sounding like a horses patuty. 🙏blessed be John Crawford out 🧙♂️

Thanks for the ideas John, nice hook. With the weather today I'm doing a bit of binge watching on your channel.
Once again John produces a nice alternative and decorative design and demonstrates great lessons in forging and shaping in his ever educational videos. Thank You John
LOL the YT algorithm... I started by watching t-shirt DIYs and now I'm here, liking, commenting and smashing that subscribe button!!
Thanks for watching

Glad you are enjoying the videos
Very nice hook! 99.9k subs...sweet! By the time I finish this comment you'll have 100k. Congratulations!
Sure do enjoy the "hook of the week". Gives me great ideas that are around my abilities, or lake of, for a 70 year beginner!
John, I really appreciate your use of found/scrap items!!
You’re .1 away from 100k subs. Congrats papa bear!! Your videos have helped me become a better smithy 👍
Another great hook, I used to have a bucket full of those bolts as I was in the electrical distribution business and we scrapped out a lot of reels, all I would have needed to make hooks was a forge, anvil, hammers, and lots of experience.
Good Evening , John
Very Nice anvil work on this Hook of the Week ! The technique for the spiral and ball was very informative to me ! Another one for my Journal ! Take Care and Be Safe ! Keep Hammering !
comparing the two, one sees clearly that your hook has a lot more love and attention to detail put into it. very well done, sir!
Thanks

Yours turned out a lot more Awesome John . Just Beautiful !
I like it. Now I have a use for all the spool rods laying around the barn.
John ANOTHER great Hook of the Week. My wife thinks I should be making some of these like you are inspiring us to do. MORE on the "Honey-Do" list. Great video!!!
Congratulations on almost 100k subscribers good job
befor the end of the month i feel
I just might be hungry, but now I want a cinnamon roll. Thank you for another great video
This might be my favorite hook yet👍🇺🇸

Your videos are wonderfully relaxing as well as creative.
the inspiration hook does look much more "mass produced" look. I think the taper and the 2 screw holes separated look much better. Great job!
Really like this hook. I have access to plenty of them rods at work going to try one of these hooks to hang in my welding area for my welding mask. Love all your videos but look forward to the hook of the week shows. Thanks
Awesome job John and great instruction!! Thank You Wayne.
It should be called 'snail hook'. Ball end added to its beauty. Well made. Almost 100k. Congrats very well deserved👍
As always you are a great inspiration. Look forward ever week to this video. I have made similar hooks from engine head bolts. They have a integral washer that I made into a ball end.
Hello John
Nice Hook
The Spireal is a great Motiv
Thanks for the Inspiration
Go on with the hooks
Good bless you
Yours Frank
Thanks
OOH, John, I really like this one! Nice hook, great video!
Hello John, great looking hook for the week project ! You took that look to another level. Both hooks do look good. Thanks for sharing with us.
I'm really glad you make these videos, I think I might try making this. As always great video John. I look forward to the next.
Yea, yours is a lot more artistic John. At least I think so. Very nice job.
Congratulations on 100K subscribers,
When you was talking about scrolling tight enough that it closes the gaps. My first thought (with it in the shape it looked like) if this was out of 308 stainless with real good heat control and white wash for stainless steel this could be a lollipop.
Think it'd be pretty hard on one's teeth, though. :p
Two things: 1st, you should get a free pizza of your choice for a small plug for the pizza place. 2nd, you should have kept the bolt head as it was. That would be pretty cool.

Always very inspiring. Thank you.
Great looking project. Thanks

Thank you for sharing! As usual, another stellar job! :)

Good one John
Once again, your the man. WINNING
Another great hook. Thanks.
I love more ways to recycle scrap metal ! Thanks for the ideas John ! Have a very Happy New Year to !
Cool
I’ve made candle wall sconces with a similar scroll end. If you make the begin of the scroll tight enough that can be one of the points for the screw.
I think your hook looks better than the one that inspired you. Great job!
We hear a lot about cold shuts, which are to be avoided for looks and good workmanship, but for most applications, are they really a strength concern? A demonstration of this would be very instructional.
Oops, should have searched RUclips first to find your video on this plus several others.
hello.. just a thought, to stop the smaller swedge block from bouncing, a magnet(s) in the larger swedge block openings, you do a great service, enjoy your instruction, maybe some history on different tools would be interesting.
very nice hook John ,Comparing the two hooks your scroll wins first prize.
Thanks
As usual excellent instructions Happy new year John 👍

I like that one John. Take care and God bless.
Looks good
Wonderful hook John. I'm planning a door handle of a similar design. I think I will try making a hook first, to get the technique.
I recently watched an old video of yours where you made a set of holdfast. I would enjoy seeing a new video in you current teaching style.
Very nice job sir!!!
like your idea better. thanks for sharing
Neat hook, it almost has a wall sconce look to it.
hi nice work
Yay!
Great! I just gathered about 50 of these off the jobsite garbage pile. Lollypop hook!
Hi john
At the 9:50 mark you mentioned about solid fuel forge vs gas burning the metal. Can you maybe explain that in a future episode? I had a trammel tip fall apart on me, and didn't understand why.
Most solid fuels can get much hotter than gas and its easy to burn the end off
Yours looks much better than the inspiration.
Happy new year John
"Let your imagination have some fun with the idea" ........ Sounds like a meme for life to me ;0)
I liked your rendition even better than your sample. good job.
So am your 100 k sub.👍
Super maestro profesore of albania
Love the hook of the week series. What type brush do you use for applying wax?
Its just a cheap disposable chip brush
Can I ask what you brushed on at the end?? I am just starting out with Blacksmithing and am Not sure what to finish with...
i like yours much better
Thanks
No touch mark? Or did I miss it? Cool hook!
your hook definitely looks better. less then 100 to go! it may happen now at any minute...
A lollypop hook! Neat!! Thanks John. How did you combat the “fish lip” of the hex end? Or did you just leave it as forged?
I have been wondering do you do anything with the rust and grim on the scrap or just let it flake off with the scale during brushing and hammering?
No, it all flakes off during forging
Great send off for 2020. No offence to the other guy but your hook was way better.
What do you know... A coat hook for "The Joker" from the Batman series of comics/tv shows/movies. Nice HotW, sir.
Nice hook. Spiral is a scrolling excercises deluxe. No offense sirSir but it brings realism to the table when an accomplished and seasoned smith has a bit of a fiddly time w a project. Crawford out 🧙♂️
Is anyone having trouble with comments being turned off and how do you fix it if you know? Thanks.?
With my medical background, when I saw the thumbnail of the hook, I saw a hook-worm! Sorry for the pun.
You could of course reverse the idea. Put the ball end against the wall and hang a coat or purse from the spiral.
Thats an interesting idea
It's about 1 cubit long 🤔
