California Speedway (known from 2008 to 2023 as Auto Club Speedway under sponsorship) is a 2.000 mi (3.219 km), D-shaped oval superspeedway in unincorporated San Bernardino County, California, near Fontana. It has hosted NASCAR racing annually since 1997. It was also previously used for open wheel racing events. The racetrack is located 47 mi (76 km) east of Los Angeles and is near the former locations of Ontario Motor Speedway and Riverside International Raceway. The track is owned and operated by NASCAR
Construction of the track, on the site of the former Kaiser Steel Mill, began in 1995 and was completed in late 1996. The speedway's main grandstand has a capacity of 68,000, additionally it features 28 skyboxes and has a grand total capacity of 122,000. In 2006, a fanzone was added behind the main grandstand. Lights were added to the speedway in 2004 with the addition of a second annual NASCAR weekend. Since 2011, the track has hosted only one NASCAR weekend each year.

I was able to go to the final two races at Auto Club Speedway, my favorite memory when Jeff Gordon waved back at me.

I went a handful of times to races there and later on to drop off trailers there. It's a shame they're ruining it after the racing got better
Good Morning WeirdFan - My dad used to pick-up and drop off trailers over there all the time. I always asked him if I could go, but sadly he would say "its not take your kid to work day". I know he was joking, but i do remember being sad. So as I got a little older, I started going to nearly every Indy and Nascar race at Fontana. So much history, I am sad. Thanks for sharing... Hey Schu Schu - thanks for watching. Really had a love hate relationship with this track. You had to walk almost 2 miles to get in, and as I remember, it was hot... Sad to see it go, but gonna be fun to watch them demolish it
Ok, I have so many memories here, but I have to add one more. This is the trophy Denny Hamlin wanted the most and never won. He told a story about sitting in the driver's meeting staring at the Auto Club Trophy which has the Woody wagon and just couldn't get it done. I don't blame him, I would love to have one too..
Went to every indycar race when it came back in 2012 except for one 2014. But was manage to catch every practice and qualifying in those years.
Good Morning Buford - When Indy was in town, I remember walking through the garages was magic. Those cars were like pieces of art and it was so special to see the crews working on them. I am planning a trip to Indy in the coming weeks, I have never been there and as we approach May, it feels like Indy Season is just ahead. Fontana was my favorite track because I live a few hours from it. Now I have to wait 2 years to see a race in California
Hey Broski - there is Sonoma, but I agree that's barely California. Vegas was kinda fun and Phoenix wasn't horrible, but Fontana was one of a kind. Now that they finally got started I'm going to try to get here frequently to watch the demolition. Im hoping I can get a piece of this facility for my desk :)

Hey ChillRc - Ok, that is a top 3 story for sure. I have been to that track dozens of times and always thought about rolling around the front stretch into turn 1. I did the Nascar experience in Nashville, so I got 5 laps around that track, but I wasn't driving. Thanks for watching, stay tuned I have some great stuff on the way... thx...

Hey Jacob - I went allot, but that has to be a record. The one problem i had with that track was you had to walk like 2 miles just to get in. That far west gate in the heat was a killer. But watching them go 200+ into turn 1 made it worth the walk. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned i have some great stuff ahead. thx...

Was at an Indycar race a few years ago. I was given access to a lap around the track in a pace car. I hopped in the screaming red corvette and a very handsome gentleman says hello Im Johnny Rutherford! I about passed out BEFORE 2 laps at 150 mph! What a great day!

So i heard the garage facilities will stay? Its sad to see the road course and kart facilities disappear now too. Its hard to find places like that in socal now
Hey Ciello - Thanks for watching. You may be right about the garages, you can see in this video they have put shipping containers around one of the garages to use as a storage/staging area. Since I shot this video, they have torn out the East parking lot. I am going to go back in a couple weeks and see what the pace of the work is. I don't want to miss the track demolition. Hey NewmanFan - it's like a car wreck, I can't take my eyes off it. I just hope the new track is good or what a waste. Just got back from martinsville, rockingham, wilkesboro, Kentucky and indy. So stay tuned allot of good stuff to come. They began resurfacing wilkesboro and lots of work underway at rockingham. Heading back to Fontana in a couple weeks for an update. Thx....

Hey LaSportsFan - That piece of property was just too valuable and racing just gets no respect... I heard that Penske wants to have a Fontana race on the 2026 schedule. So do we know if it’s going to be completely demolished and no track will be there or did they confirm that a short track is being built?
Hey Drew - From everything I've heard and read, this is going to be a multi-use property and there will be a "Short Track" on the site. No disclosed description of actual size or shape yet. But since Roger Penske owns the property, I have little doubt they will put a track there. Since I shot this video, they have now demo'd the East parking lot. I expect to be back out there in a few weeks and see where they are. Thanks for watching, plenty of good stuff ahead... thx..
Pretty sure Penske does not own the track. Was sold by Penske many years ago & was bought by a large Nascar corp. Looks like Hillwood Development recently bought the property in which a short oval track will be built. I did many years of HPDE at Fontana & wonder if there will be any of that type of driving in the future? @@AcAdapterInc
Hopefully by time its ready we have better short track package cuz this car sucks on short tracks

@AcAdapterInc yeah I know but I bet the atmosphere was great and too have that track back thou. I've been to Bristol 3 times before this new car and it was my favorite track and went last year it just wasn't the same with this car

Thank you NASCAR and California Speedway for ruining a good racetrack. And to yall who did the construction and stuff that was just your job. It had nothing to do with yall. Just seeing the track get torn and ruined to a short track is just unreal to me.

Good Morning Scott - Your post made me laugh out loud. Thank you... One of my best friends always used to call it Fontucky. So when I was putting this project together, I couldn't get that out of my head and thus the music choice.
