Crutch is gut wrenching. Poor, Ren from long time ago when he was suffering terribly and hoping his then girlfriends would stay with him if he lost his mind.
Joe Hughes is his lost friend. The song is what he feels his friend was going through and the end is Ren expressing the pain of his loss. On another note, you're like, ruminating and growing before our eyes! Love it guys! i don't think Crutch has religious connotations and I'm guessing she didn't stay with him.

'Crutch' is, I believe, about Ren opening up to his girlfriend about the fears he had. He was saying, you might be with me now but should I lose my mind and go completely crazy... are you still going to be here with me? She made all the promises "If the weight should get too heavy, I'll help hold this burden. I'll walk with you my love... into the fires of hell if it would ease the burning. But please don't lose your trust. The man I know is brave, so don't you dare say your folding. I can be your crutch... until we both grow old and the curtains closin'." She said all that. Made all those promises, then when he does crack a little more and asks, "Baby, if I lose my mind... would you stay with me?!" she disappears. She left. His worse fear became a reality.

@@TheReactTwinss PLEASE react to the Music Crowns performance of Blind Eye if you're going to check out the song. It's the raw, live performance version rather than the interior studio track they did and more cohesive than the parking garage version.. Actually it might be fun to check out all 3 versions back to back in one video to see which you enjoy the most
@@TheReactTwinss It's so good! Don't let that one fall through the cracks - would suggest watching the MC Sessions live version and the car park attendant together - so you'll catch the song in the MC sessions real clear and then them improvising in the car park garage is just super fun to watch!
Lyme disease affected his brain (among other parts of his body) before they figured out what he actually had going on. He was house/bedbound for a long time and that affected his mind im sure. Bibi is no longer his gf. :( Also Joe was his close friend. The first song is about Joe who unalived hisself. These are deep songs.
How to be Me is such a beautiful song about such a terrible time. The lyrics work from Ren's perspective as the person left behind, but also work from Joe's perspective as the person finding it impossible to carry on. I hope you do react to Freckled Angels. Ren and Joe seemed to have a friendship very much like you guys, with an ease and closeness that left him very lost when it vanished suddenly from his life. I think you would bring a lot of perspective as friends who are around the same age Ren and Joe were. Crutch is heartbreaking. He was so ill then and it shows, but yet it's such a beautiful way to show him rising to his feet.
Omg that's so funny I made a playlist of every song of Ren's for my drive home from work tonight and put it on shuffle and Crutch came up. Here's my thoughts: it's not my favorite Ren song - which I don't actually have because I have loved every song of his that I've heard. One of the most common things that people say is that he bends genre's but I think that he has completely created a new genre just called: Ren. Music has always been a major part of life and I always say how blessed are we to have lived at the same time as Bowie, Zeppelin, the Stones, Ozzy, Buckley, Elliot Smith, the Cure, Queen, now I can add Ren to that list. Thank you Ren, I know your struggle is real but God damn YOU are worth it. You not only touch people's souls but you crack them open.
Linguine!!! 🖤🖤 I haven't watched the video yet but I had to say something now. I'll be a crying, sniveling mess by the end. 'How To Be Me' tugs at my heartstrings for sure but 'Crutch' absolutely shatters me (for a bunch of reasons I won't get into here). It is very much towards the top of my very long list of favorite Ren songs. I appreciate that he is not afraid to be vulnerable and real. Just like he talked about in 'Hi Ren' the human experience can run the gamut from good, happy times to absolutely soul shattering pain and sorrow and I think it's incredibly brave, especially in this day and age of people trying to make their lives look perfect through social media, of him to be so honest. Anyway I'm glad to see y'all back. I was thinking that it had been a minute. Also, I suppose it's commendable that y'all are taking care of yourselves and your families, handling your business, and trying to find balance in your lives, blah blah blah... Even if I think that WE should be the most important thing in your lives, if you want to continue to do that whole well-adjusted human thing then I guess that's okay too. 🙃 PS: I'm watching the intro while I type this and I've been called a lot worse than Hannah...🤣 PPS: 21k views on 'The Hunger' AND y'all hit 2k subs? Nice work. Y'all deserve it and more. Just don't forget about us little people... 😎 PPPS: if I'm honest, I think the way y'all felt about Ren giving you a shout-out in his story is akin to how I felt about linguine.😊 Peace, love, and pasta y'all!✌️
Nancyyyyyy!!! You’re the Linguineeee! I’ll remember that for next time😆! Buttttt the song is super deep. And now that I know what both is about it definitely saddens me a lot more! Butttt gotta take care of the outside lifer too plus we both actually work a lot with our daily jobs! Buttt glad to be back! And WELCOME BACK😁!! Also…. I love that “Peace☮️ Love🖤 And Pasta🍝! It’s Perfect!
Yes, that last verse that Ren sang, was, as far as I know,, about his friend, who apparently threw himself off a bridge in Wales, called Menai Bridge, his body was not found. If anyone has more info, feel free to correct me.
Not sure how long you two have been doing reaction videos but over the time I’ve been watching them you both seem to have grown as reactors. You come over as genuine and you keep it fun. Thank you guys. More Ren and The Big Push!
Thank you🖤 We want to react, vibe, enjoy the music with everyone but also have a good time with it😁! That’s the goal at least! Can’t satisfy everyone though but the ones who are we appreciate more than you all know!
Masterpieces are the perfect description of these two songs. He is a brilliant person and seems to touch the emotions of so many people. You guys are awesome. Thank you❤
You guys should check out "The Northern Boyz" for fun. They're this group of 70+ year old UK guys that met in a retirement home and they started a rap group. Surprisingly their songs are well done. They go pretty hard though with some cursing and lewd lines. But damn if it isn't a unique thing to see someone's grandpas rapping hardcore. There's not many others reacting to their stuff either. At the very least it'll be a fun reaction.
The central voice of the song feels his illness is a burden to the ones he loves but is desperate to get any relief. It exposes the pain felt when the need for someone's support to go through hell will put loved ones through hell too. Ren captures an ambiguity of feelings. Guilt, disappotment and loss tinged with forgiveness, The understanding that someone you love should not have to be strong enough to be a crutch. But the desperation you experience letting them go.
On you two a few weeks ago, for the first time, because of your interest in Ren, love your reactions! Please keep reacting, because none of his stuff is bad, in fact its really ALL fire!!!
Two great songs guys - both very heavy. Enjoying it fellas. If you notice on the last verse of How to be me - Ren is crying. RIP Joe. In Crutch - he was super under weight and sick. Thankfully he is currently getting treatment for lime's disease in Canada. Here is to hoping he gets healthy. As always Roll tide.
Thank youuuuu! And yes I’m very happy to know he’s getting better day by day and receiving the correct treatment! Praying for a complete healing for him! And ROLL TIDE🐘🐘
Joe Hughes was Ren's best friend. He killed himself by jumping off a bridge when he was 18. I think the entire song was from Joe's pov until the end. Insofar as "Crutch" goes, Bibi was Ren's girlfriend at the time and I'm thinking she was literally singing from the point of view of his girlfriend. Especially as Ren is agnostic, but then he's not averse to using religious imagery. That said, Ren has shown himself to people interpreting as they will. I think the song is simply about how when he was heavily medicated for something he didn't have and physically getting worse from untreated Lyme Disease, he felt he was losing his mind and was suicidal. In song Bibi was saying she would be there but he was afraid she'd leave and may have driven her away with his crazy.
He's got a few vlogs here in RUclips from the time during the misdiagnosis. A couple are hard to watch. One is very hard to watch. He used that one to announce the "Hi Ren" video before it's release. Definitely worth watching but they're probably not really reaction material.
Ren's friend Joe Hughes sadly took his own life at the age of 19 (he jumped off the Menai bridge at around 3.00 a.m. on 28 December 2010). He wrote the song Freckled Angels about Joe and dedicated the album of the same name to him
I don't know if you guys have read the description Ren left under the song Crutch, but it will definitely give you more context to the piece. Also, this link - ruclips.net/video/jaltehH_cNo/видео.html - is a post he did during a very rough period, that speaks directly to trying so desperately to hold on to hope. It's also the video that got the attention of the first doctor who offered Ren a stem cell tranplant. There's more to that story that Ren talked about in his interview with Justin Hawkins. Anyways, you may have already been filled in on all of this, but thought I'd send it your way. You might also like his song "Patience"
I love how you try to understand the deep meaning in his words. His music makes us think and talk openly about things that are normally not openly talked about, like suicide, religion, mental health. So deep, both songs. Great reaction!
Thanks! Keep em comin. The song is from Ren's point of view. He doesn't know how to be himself after Joe died. Crutch is about his illness, misdiagnosis, and psychosis before he got the life-saving stem cell replacement. Related to his fear of losing his mind and his girlfriend because of it.
Work always gets in the way of living!! I'm sitting in your posh, red backseat, eating linguine, listening to Ren!! What possibly could be better than that!?! Absolutely nothing, man!! Thanks for your reactions!! I love you guys!!!
Y'all, do NOT feel self-conscious about how you interpret the lyrics. It is poetry. The whole point is to use your own experiences and perspectives to make an interpretation. And the best way to do this is with others. Because we all have had different experiences and different perspectives, therefore, different interpretations. And when we share those perspectives it allows us to view the poetry in new ways. This is why I love to watch you guys. You often see things in ways that I had never considered. It doesn't necessarily matter what the poet originally meant. They want to invoke emotion in all of us. But emotion comes from within. It is deeply personal. We have to feel with our own skin, not the poet's. And when we share those perspectives... man, it just adds layers upon layers of feels. I never saw the angel perspective in Crutch, but I absolutely love it. It adds so much to the whole song. Maybe Ren saw his girlfriend as his angel. It doesn't really matter if it's true or not, it only matters how we feel about it. That it makes us feel. That is the power of poetry. So y'all keep doing you. You're really great at it. Nobody could do it better. ❤
Freckled Angels and How to be me are all dedicated to his friend Joe Hughes who commited suicide jumping down Menai Bridge in 2010 and his body was never be found afterward. I read on the news that before jumping, he tried calling some friends to say goodbye and Ren are one of the receivers
@TheReactTwinss I know this is a year later, but.... Ren got word Joe was going to jump so he took off running to the bridge to stop him. He says he kept trying to call Joe while running to him. The phone was busy so it gave Ren hope because it meant Joe was on the phone with someone...and then it wasnt busy anymore. He figures he was like 2 minutes too late.
I love all the different things people pull from this song! Great reaction❤ I felt like the first verse is Ren after losing his friend "I've been talking to the dead" the second verse sounds like it's from his friends perspective "I wish I could move, walk right out this tomb" and the Ren screaming at God. I lost my nephew 3 yrs ago and this song is exactly how it feels. Much love from TX!
I changed back to my other account as I was having issues.. I used to be a Big B in blue lol .. but looking forward to later .. maybe we will get that Sweet Little Lady/Digity mashup..♥️🎶♥️ 🤘🏻
Forgot How to be me - Wrenching vocals and lyrics. It tears at me. Strangely it has me feeling less alone. Shivery and full of heart. Crutch - painting pain and confusion with words and actions. Bearing the body, bearing the heart and soul in agony. Young Ren locked up tight in chains not of his making.
I’m finishing watching some of your older videos and I had never finished this one. I am so impressed with how you take the time to think about the lyrics and form your own opinions rather than trying to find out what a song is about before you react. I can tell yours are completely genuine reactions because of that. Other reactors also make me frown when they pause right before there’s something I really want them to hear but not you guys. You are so intent on forming your own opinions and I love to listen to your thoughts. Beyond that you both are so thoughtful and I love watching your reactions! You deserve to one the best reaction channels. Then you hit me with the deadpan ‘I did not come to watch a movie’ ! 😂
For me Crutch (when Ren was at his lowest) is like prequel to Sick Boi (when he is searching for answers) and then Hi Ren (when he came out on the other side). Actually your reaction are great because they are geniuine and fun. Have a great day boys!
that was such an interesting reaction. Thanks guys. Crutch, to me, feels like it's a song about relying on others when you're at your weakest. Sometimes it's asking too much. It's not what they signed up for. Despite all the romantic ideals, They have a life to live. Some people just aren't built to wait for 'just in case'.
Those nails with the hat give me a Freddy Kruger vibe, but oh my god what a voice and what a stunning combo♥ i've already listened to the song a few times but it still gives me the chills each time. I don't have time to watch a 45 minute long video though guys, maybe split it up in separate videos next time?
We thought about doing 2 separate videos buttttt we kind of wanted 2 deep songs together. Especially the music that will have meaning to it and we can talk about a lot of things he mentions. It’s almost like talking to a therapist. We tend to go into deep conversations and that’s what really causes our videos to go so long
Freckled Angels is a 16 track album & you can find it if you have RUclips premium Music as well as tons of his music, the rabbit hole goes deep. Oh and RUclips premium also cuts out the ads😉 Great reactions and you both have good voices, I can hear that😊
Omg it breaks me everytime I see the end...lol. u paused right before it and I about died.. but it still hit when u restarted it.. omg good video, you guys.. I enjoy them everytime..much love.
Really excellent reaction. You are approaching these songs as art and will be rewarded with the layers of Ren's artistic intentions. Intelligent art generally ends up making one deeply introspective. The higher level the art is the less absolute the conclusion. Sometimes your introspection brings more value than your interpretation.
I understand if you preferred to do a blind reaction, but reading the descriptions of the videos that Ren posts are quite insightful. Maybe reading them after could be a good idea.
@@TheReactTwinss actually now that I think about it, I think it was a recent community post on his RUclips channel where he wrote up about it…my bad Really enjoy your reactions. You guys are doing great.
You said "if you were like others you could let it play through" well you both do things your way, you pause and go into thought..because you appreciate what brings a song together "live". hats off to ren,s artistic talent and the group of people who set up his sound and camera work, this man is not big budget but he knows despite his issues what glues a video/song together. keep going guys !
Exactly! That’s what I feel like reactions are suppose to be like. Unless we’re listening to some Drake or freaking some Chris brown. Then we’d just bob our heads. Because they aren’t talking about much such as deep messages just bars and groovy music to bob your head to or dance. But I Love Rens music because there’s always hidden messages and it’s always a deep song and that’s the music we really look for and if you Ren raps we still like to pause and talk about what he says because he slick and says so much and brings amazing bars that just Has to be talked about sometimes. We just don’t talk about it for a long time because there’s only so much you can say about a bar, but when it comes to his deep emotional stuff, absolutely we want to talk about it.
Congratulations!! I watch and listen to all of the things Ren does. He is just amazing . This song is absolutely haunting. I lost my 27 year old song last year. I don't know how to be me is me right now. This is about his friends suicide and he misses him terribly. I'm surprised Ren kept it together to finish this son. Kudos to you Ren!!
I’m sorry about that😢 I can only imagine the pain and there’s no way to fully recover from something like that. The closest to understanding is losing my little brother years ago when he was a month old. But even then. My mom has always said there’s no other pain like losing a child. We love you and hope we can continue you to entertain you and bring you happiness, smiles and laughters 🖤
To give you a better understanding of Ren and the song "Crutch," I highly recommend watching the video he posted Dec. 9, 2022 just before he released "Hi Ren." (You should also read the intro because he explains why he posted it.) The video is from 2014 before he was properly diagnosed with Lyme disease. It will help you understand what he was going through. You guys are terrific - love ya like linguine ❤

Noooo but would love to check it out! Thank youu😁😁🙏🏼
Yes a double reaction of Blind eyed with car park attendant version being the second reaction. That would be fab. 🐇🕳️🖤
@@anticafo This !
Lyme disease affected his brain (among other parts of his body) before they figured out what he actually had going on. He was house/bedbound for a long time and that affected his mind im sure. Bibi is no longer his gf. :(
Also Joe was his close friend. The first song is about Joe who unalived hisself. These are deep songs.
Ren and Sam Tompkins - Earned It-Man’s World-Falling. Must listen. Just busking on the street. Crazy good.
Linguine!!! 🖤🖤
I haven't watched the video yet but I had to say something now.
PS: I'm watching the intro while I type this and I've been called a lot worse than Hannah...🤣
PPS: 21k views on 'The Hunger' AND y'all hit 2k subs? Nice work. Y'all deserve it and more. Just don't forget about us little people... 😎
PPPS: if I'm honest, I think the way y'all felt about Ren giving you a shout-out in his story is akin to how I felt about linguine.😊
Peace, love, and pasta y'all!✌️
Nancyyyyyy!!!
He wrote this when the pain was soo bad it was causing his mind to break 💔 😢😢
Honestly " How to be me" has become one of my favorite songs ever.
The big push - oh my woman! Is an excellent song 👏 👏 👏
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 LINGUINE ! 🍝
On you two a few weeks ago, for the first time, because of your interest in Ren, love your reactions! Please keep reacting, because none of his stuff is bad, in fact its really ALL fire!!!
Thank you man! We hope you stay and enjoy the music just as much us! And thank you for giving us a chance!
RIP Joe
He wrote the song Freckled Angels about Joe and dedicated the album of the same name to him
Every time I hear a Ren track I think I have found my favourite. How To Be Me was up there until I heard Hold On this morning! xx
I have a STEELERS jacket for REN!! AND FOR THE 18TH TIME😂 "Crutch" and "Jessica", *songs by REN 6/7 years ago... SO GOOD❤😉 and adore you two💪😘😁
His fear was if he lost his mind would she still stay with him! Ren's Rabbit hole is deep! And we all love it...
Thanks guys.. we appreciate you.. Great reaction… Both are just amazing songs.. 🎶♥️🎶
I think the meaning of this song is e exactly what it means to you. How ever it touches you the most, that’s what it was meant to be.
Well said! Love your name, btw:)
You guys are adorable! “Crutch” means so much to me. It is such a beautifully heartbreaking song.❤❤❤
You two are awesome! ❤ you guys. Your banter is so great! Ren is the best!
I love how you try to understand the deep meaning in his words. His music makes us think and talk openly about things that are normally not openly talked about, like suicide, religion, mental health. So deep, both songs. Great reaction!
The guy on the right had me smiling so much, his reaction to Chinchilla is hilarious.
Thank youuuuu❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh and yea, he is AMAZEBALLS!!! Chinchilla is a perfect blend 🎵❤
🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥 #Ren
Freckled Angels and How to be me are all dedicated to his friend Joe Hughes who commited suicide jumping down Menai Bridge in 2010 and his body was never be found afterward. I read on the news that before jumping, he tried calling some friends to say goodbye and Ren are one of the receivers
Dang😢 I know that had to hurt Ren even more too 😫
@TheReactTwinss I know this is a year later, but....
I've wondered if the fear in How to Be Me is Ren worrying that he might follow....
Rens very best friend died of suicide. This song seems to be about that.
If you listen to Rens song Freckled Angel, that also about his dear friend
You guys are great, I get a kick out of watching your minds churn.🤣🤣🤣
Thankssss🤣 We aim for enjoying music with others and reacting with other but also having a good time laughs jokes and smiles!
Thanks for your joy which brings more joy ❤
Noooo, THANK YOUU❤️🥹🙏🏼🙏🏼
He was referencing his friend Joe, the same friend from Freckled angels. Great reaction guys.
For me Crutch (when Ren was at his lowest) is like prequel to Sick Boi (when he is searching for answers) and then Hi Ren (when he came out on the other side). Actually your reaction are great because they are geniuine and fun. Have a great day boys!
Ren isn't religious but likes to play with the imagery. It's about fear of loss and abandonment when his illness takes him over
👍
OMG!!! Yes CRUTCH😂😂😂 I keep commenting before I watch the whole video
🤣🤣🤣 I understand the feeling
that was such an interesting reaction.
Oh and RUclips premium also cuts out the ads😉 Great reactions and you both have good voices, I can hear that😊
hope you 2 are both ready for rens new release today!!! he has live stream later so lock on !!!!
..........and still sending love from Australia......
Guys love your reactions to Rens songs but please try to improve the audio of the song being listened to
You two are getting good at this. Your interpretations and analyses are so thoughtful and interesting .
This was the only video we did read it. And still didn’t think anything of it
@@TheReactTwinss actually now that I think about it, I think it was a recent community post on his RUclips channel where he wrote up about it…my bad
Really enjoy your reactions.
Totally agree about releasing the live versions!
Amazing reaction….and Crutch goes on my play list straight away
This was a great come back!!! Glad to hear you'll do a bunch more this week!
They performed this song on the bridge where RENs friend committed suicide,Ren❤
ahahah "okeh" at the beginning 🤣
You guys continue to delight.
Thx for your wonderful thoughtful and entertaining reactions. I think your good at this and will grow as you continue to enjoy the music.
big love ren army
I can't wait to see you guys react to the big push! A totally different side to Rens talent but just as incredible
29th guys.... great 👍 job on this one.
Love this❤ Ty both for your reactions!
Thanks!
Thank youuu ❤️❤️
To give you a better understanding of Ren and the song "Crutch," I highly recommend watching the video he posted Dec. 9, 2022 just before he released "Hi Ren." (You should also read the intro because he explains why he posted it.) The video is from 2014 before he was properly diagnosed with Lyme disease. It will help you understand what he was going through. You guys are terrific - love ya like linguine ❤
Okkk! Screenshotted and will go watch then! Thank youuu! And Linguine 🖤
