Back in '92 I bought a Fender M-80 Chorus 90W SS head and matched it with a ROSS 4X12 cabinet with Jensen's in it. The clean sound is beautiful and the chorus effect is phenomenal. I liked it so much, I bought another one, used, in the late 90's and ran my delay pedal between the two. The distortion through the amp is lackluster so, I had to use a distortion pedal but it does have a presence effect that is very useful. For portability, I scored a 50w Fender Princeton Chorus combo with 2X12 about four years ago for $80 and the sound is consistent with the heads. I always wanted decent tube amp and found a used Marshall TSL100 with a 1960A 4X12 cabinet for $900 and really love the "in your face" sound I get but, I need that Chorus sound also. I'm partial to using BOSS pedals and bought a BOSS Super Chorus but I'm disappointed with it. I thought about replacing it with the Fender Chorus pedal that you show here and since I've had good luck with Fender, I think it will be my next purchase! Thank you, Tony!
Fender and chorus should sound great :). This little often overlooked pedal was cheap when new and still cheap today probably used. TSL100 is a really great amp and I used that on a number of tracks over the years including released stuff. I still have one :) Yes check out this Fender pedal as you should like it... its a great bargain really. Thanks.
Hi Tony, Happy New Year. I went to several of the closing down sales, and spoke to you on one occasion. I managed to pickup a brand new Marshall Guv’Nor 2 Gold pedal for the princely sum of £40:00, at the time Amazon were selling them for £49:99 + postage ( they’re now selling them for £40:00 too but you still have to add postage on top of that unless your an Amazon Prime member), so I saved myself around £13:00 in all. I honestly thought that they were going to link up with the other guitar shop in the Potteries Shopping Centre but was a bit dumbfounded when I called into their new shop. I wasn’t prepared for that. Good review video as always Tony.
Yes you can find these sorts of pedals out there and I was pleasantly surprised about this one... in a corner and nobody even gave it a second glance. But its a good pedal and for the money a steal. The closing down was getting very sparse towards the end in there and I went to just say hello and goodbye to some of the guys I have known for years. Sad really. You did OK on the Gov'Nor then. I understand their move to the retail part and the need to make a return on investment. Personally I have seen that distributors are not always 'fair' to the smaller shops. I ordered a GT-1000 pedal from them when they were in the old place and you know what, they were held to ransom by the rep. Basically, to get my pedal they had to buy around £6k to get it. Clearly a miserable situation. In the end I bought it elsewhere because it would have been wrong to have them stock up on Roland gear just to get me a pedal. On the new site they have 'foot fall' and as long as they make it that's all that matters. I always understood that they would not be the same as before... and I have a lot of time for those guys. I think you asked me about the fox in one video (I think it was you guys) and if it was, there's an update! :) It is actually a ferret. :) Regards...
Thanks Tony for all the videos this year , no one explains as in depth as you do. I'm a pedal junkie I'm afraid; nearly 80+ and I'll probably slow down now. You're correct about pedal companies marketing gimmicks. The hype about delay pedals is arguably the worse followed closely by distortions and OD'S! Some are worth the price and some are ridiculously over priced, but as long as we allow it they'll keep 'em coming. Thank you once again. Wish my neighbors were like you. LOL! Peace
! 80 pedals! Ouch! Yes the paint and funny names is horrible. Thanks for this info' and that's a good insight especially from someone with 80 pedals :) Thanks for that info. Happy new year...
You're back :) So am I :) a very nice very low cost pedal with a really cool chorus :). Thanks Tommy and have a great new year if I did not already say it... but have a great new year even if I did :)
Another great video,Tony, thank you! I am so pleased that you decided to stick around! RUclips wouldn't be the same without you!! Speaking of Beringer pedal prices, they are selling through gear4music at the princely sum of £18.00 each!! (+£3ish p&p) Keep doing what you are doing, Tony! Now...get outta here!!
Yes I'm still here and I guess its best to ignore some of the RUclips fake videos... they annoy me for sure. £18 is silly, and its likely they have (maybe!) improved a little. When I saw them some years ago some of them were really bad. But I guess in the case of those you got what you paid for. Thanks..
Good Vid Tony. I ve got a chorus pedal called a Vision CH 2. Japanese thing made in the 80s, worth around 20 or 30 quid. It's one of those pedals I notice when it's not there but don't have the depth/intensity knobs turned up high. I wouldn't spend a lot on chorus. I would on delay. Don't use much reverb but do use a bit of drive - mainly to boost - plus another booster and a bit of compression with a strat.
Yes some of these pedals (like the one you described) are not all 'rubbish' by any means. Makers would have us believe that new pedals are somehow 'better' but to be honest, some of the best pedals I have are the old ones - and some of them are low cost (well sort of). Of the delays you're right you CAN spend a fortune on those, I ended up with a dd-500 (I think its called) from Roland Boss and that has lots of flexibility in it. Not too complex, but not just simple either. Ha chorus and strats go together :) and they make a wonderful sound. Chorus on rock can be effective too I find. If you can find obne of those Seymour Duncan 'clean boost' pedals they are useful especially with a strat - they create extra drive cleanly as it says on the box :) discontinued but a useful addition. Thanks.
@@tonymckenzieofficialI did install that EVH Low Friction pot in the end, think I commented on another video you did. Overall I quite like it, it's the 500k version. It feels a lot more like the 25k pots you used to get with EMG Pickups, nice and quick feel. As nice as it is, I don't think I'd go to the trouble of replacing all my potentiometers with them on my passive pickup'd guitars. It's hard to review a potentiometer haha, but if I was doing a new-build then I'd certainly use the same again. They are a lot nicer feeling than the stock one that came on my USA Jackson RR1. I'm mainly a master volume/tone player so I left the other volume out of the circuit. Did you fit yours up in the end?
Thanks Jon for this info... and good to know the results of your efforts too. Changing out all the stuff would be a pain and I agree with that. In fact I did not fit it because the pickups on the last guitar I wanted to use it on needed 250 and I only had a 500 :( but as I always say... I'll be back :) (oh no that's Arnie's saying :) Thanks for letting me know about that one....
I knew they were around and they have newer ones these days (but more expensive!). These are pretty cool for the money and it was interesting how they changed the name for marketing from a 'stereo chorus' to a 'competition chorus'. They don't make this one now but they are out there. Thanks James.
OMG That is one UGLY pedal :) However it might sound great so I won't pick on it :) Now there's a thought... maybe I should create a video and invite guys to make an entry on what they think are the ugliest pedals of all time! :) Is that a silly thought... or maybe not :). Thanks.
Indeed I do remember those days. This one new was around £45 in 2013 or 14 so not that long ago. I 'don't get it' with custom paint jobs and funny names for peddles as I think it's really 'scammy' way of selling what is generally already invented... like chorus or drive pedals for example. Thanks.
I have NOT tried the Fender one but I did try the DOD one from years ago... the one he really used I believe. Malmsteen has this sort of clean overdrive (you will know what I mean I guess) and too much of it seems to affect the playability especially if you have a Malmsteen strat (which I did at the time). I never mastered the arpeggios (he is awesome) so gave that up early on. So I would strongly recommend you try the pedal in the amp you use with the guitar you use because on the DOD that had a lot of drive that I never really saw on Yng's playing if you get my meaning. Thanks and have a great new year.
I have the feeling it is probably better for a single coil sounding pick up for that attack yjm likes, I've already ordered it anyway lol If it's rubbish it will be part of the overdrive pedal stable lol, thanks Tony have a good new year man😁
Hey, when you get it and check it out, come back and post your opinions here because that helps many. I would agree that the pedal will be better on single coils, and Yng's are not as high an output as some guys think either.
Darn Alex, I never mentioned them :) They have them on cars in the UK too :) Here they call them 'go faster' stripes, because the boy racers all have them :) Thanks.
Hahaha im cheap to buddy, i buy Donner pedals from China man, they are pretty awsome for the money! If ya get a chance to try one go for it youll probably be surprized 👍
What... Donner as in Kebab :) I could say it would 'go down well' or 'Do you deliver' etc. :) only joking of course. I don't know that one, but if I see one then I'll put it up here and blame you :) just kidding. Thanks Blake for the info... and have a great new year.
By the way love the guitar strap.im sure you know but the magnificent Jimmy Hendrix had one just like it.just thought I'd point it out but I'm sure you knew it and by the way thanks for getting me addicted to strats.you should be ashamed of yourself lol.much love Tony.cheers
Indeed he did have one but red white and black if I remember correctly. The reason I bought this was the local shop was moving and they cleared this out (a Dunlop strap) and I got it for about £20 ($27) so a bargain. Strats have a particular thing going on don't they. Many players have flipped and flopped between strats and Gibson etc. (or Ibanez as I have). This particular strat has a really nice sound and playability and it's what I need in a strat. Some of them however are not that great. It's a question of finding the one (or 10's) that you are comfortable with I think) that suits you and hanging on to it. Have a great new year.
@5:22 I think is the C-Tick Mark for Australian electrical product safety compliance. Cheers
Ah thanks for the info on that.... I'll bear it in mind too. Stay safe and thanks for watching.

Happy New Year Tony. Rock on man
Yes JJ and the same to you. Thanks.
Sounds fine to me ! The key to chorus ... is to not overuse it. Learn how the knobs respond and you'll get what you need out of it.
Good vid Tom.
Exactly... this one was pretty cool I have to say. Thanks Ryedor

The Ronseal of effects pedals "does what it says on the tin"
Had the drive pedal in this range a few years ago , kind of a boss BD2 sound alike
Great especially for the money and second user I thought. Thanks for the info on your experience too.
I like the sound. Would love to hear it with some dirt. My main go-to is the Way Huge Blue Hippo. Love it.
Thanks Jon for your recommendation of pedal... those all matter when you post what you like - real views from users! Thanks.

You should try the Fender Starcaster EQ/Distortion pedal.

Well done, as usual!!!
Thanks Michael. I wanted to show a 'cheap' pedal that's probably as good as some costing many times more.
