I am playing this right now, never played a Trails game before, but this is in my top 15 games of all time already. And I played and finished hundreds of them at this point. As for the Trails games before TTD, no thanks. I will play the series from here moving forward. Maybe I will try the Sky remake, but it is a maybe.

Great review. I'm looking forward Daybreak 2 since this game was so amazing.

Came here after your ranking video! I started with CS 1+2 several years ago, then took a giant break, and have recently played Zero/Azure, then beat CS3 and am halfway through CS4. Daybreak releasing in English is what made me dive back into the series, I'm super stoked to hear you enjoyed it so much. It's helping me justify spending so much time with Trails lately lol

Really enjoyed my time with Daybreak. The main cast and friendly NPC characters are honestly some of the best the series has ever had, and with a series like Trails...that's saying a lot. Calvard as a setting is fantastic, and I can't wait to explore more of it in the later games of the arc. I'm also digging the new graphics engine, and the changes made to the art style. The 3D graphics look better than they ever have. As far as soundtracks go, while I think the soundtrack was less memorable than other entries in the series, it was still very enjoyable to listen to, and fit the setting and tone of the game. The story was mostly really enjoyable as well, with my one major complaint being that I thought the villains were...a bit lame, if I'm being honest. My feelings on the protagonists and antagonists are actually on polar opposite ends of the spectrum. While the protagonists are a strong contender for my favoirte main cast in the series, with their only competition being the Sky cast, the antagonists, Almata, are probably the worst antagonists of the series in my opinon. Overall, I wouldn't call Daybreak my favorite in the series. Sky FC and SC are still at the peak of the franchise for me, simply because I love the characters, setting, and narrative of those two games so much. That said, I''m really excited to see where the story goes from here. The Liberl arc hasn't been dethroned in my heart yet, but Calvard has made a very strong first impression.

The first Trails game I bought was Sky, on the PSP before it even gained the First Chapter epithet. The first Trails game I played was Cold Steel I but I bounced off it after only a couple of hours in favour of binging through Resident Evil. The first Trails game I finished was Daybreak and I loved it so much that I went back and played Crossbell (my PSP and Vita are in storage so digging out the Sky trilogy was too much effort!) and am currently on Cold Steel III. I've kinda loved the way that events and characters that I heard referred to in Daybreak are getting more fleshed out by the earlier games and am not regretting binging on them so far.

Yup, without doubt, it is the best trails. Van is just built differently.

This is my first Trails game I'm about 20 hours in so far. It's a bit of a slow burner but it's been good so far.

That's awesome to hear! The first games in the arcs are always bit slower as they introduce so many characters and do setup for the story but it always pays off. Hope you enjoy the rest of the game and hopefully the rest of the journey through Trails!

It’s the definition of a slow burner.

Ordered this for Switch from the Target app since it’s not available in most stores. It just came today and I don’t know if I wanna open it. I heard the game is good but it would look/run better on my ps5 or Steam Deck. Dunno what to do. I’m sitting here staring at my copy

I haven't played the Switch version but yeah, I've seen/heard that it can be pretty rough compared to PS5/PC. I'm sure the experience on Switch would be fine but not sure if I recommend it as the game can be really pretty.
