This is what I think: all the smiling critters were like catnap but the prototype ordered catnap to kill all of them but if mission failed, catnap is dead. So catnap killed all of them. But he left his former bff, dogday alive. Though having experienced the grinder, dog day met us. But then we might have killed dog day ourselves, catnap was ordered to do more killing. The prototype told catnap to kill us,but instead catnap failed. Instead of us being killed be catnap, catnap started to pray to the prototype to live even though mission failed. The prototype thought. But then killed catnap. The end.
