So my relatives speak English with a Filipino accent, albeit very subtle or very strong. Depending how frequently they talk in Tagalog to each other in their home setting. The ones born here, have no accent. I also have a discerning musical ear, enabling me to hear the slightest accent, no matter what country they're from. Usually when a person from another country sings a song in English, the accent disappears. I experienced this with a chap from England. Strong English accent, but when he sang, no accent. Usually, we do have tagalog/bisaya/ilocano,etc. accents when we talk amongst ourselves if ever its in english. We do try our best to transition to a little bit of an 'American twang' to make it acceptable/understandable to foreigners. Philippines is still poor...but alot more sophisticated than half a century ago. Go visit the Philippines, life is too short to be stuck in the US.
